Big Boy Restaurant was founded in 1936 in Glendale, California by Bob Wian. The original name was Bob’s Pantry and quickly became known as “Bob’s” and “Home of the Big Boy Hamburger.” By 1967, the restaurant chain had changed its name to Bob’s Big Boy Restaurant.

The company filed for bankruptcy in 2000 and was purchased by investor Robert Liggett, Jr. Liggett changed the name to Big Boy Restaurant. Soon after the sale, Liggett made an agreement with Frisch’s restaurants and both restaurant chains became part of the Big Boy International restaurant chain.  All locations now operate under the Big Boy brand.

The cartoon series “Bob’s Burgers” reminds many people of the original restaurant and times.

Today, the company has 121 restaurants in the U.S. and 93 around the globe,  not including 293 franchises in Japan. In 2013, the company had $9.4 million in profit.

    HI Big Boys

Long time patron as many Michiganders I love Big Boys. But I am left with no where to go if I want to visit a restaurant of yours. I live in Berkley and I know you are going to say that there is one in Southfield on Southfield road near 12 mile. I will not go there due to the terrible service lack of enthusiasm and most of all the failure to provide me the Big Boy experience I love. Im not here to throw them under the bus . I love the Troy location but its to far for me to go. The reason I am writing this is you need to need to buy Omarahs restaurant 12 mile and Coolidge in Berkley. I don’t know if its for sale but you can only stay closed and remodel for so long. I know you were going to rebuild on Woodward close to Normandy but I heard the DelGudas Brothers were being difficult. The Berkley location would Rock if you were to get it you would be very happy if you were to attain this spot. I thank you for reading this and please send me a reply would be nice.

My husband and I went to the Big Bot in Muskegon Michigan on Sunday July 11, waited 20 minutes for someone to wait on us, then another 20 minutes to get our drinks, ordered the cheesey bread to start with , it was horrible, hardly any chesse on it, got our order 45 minutes later , food was not good, very tuff chicken sandwich, onion rings were just blah tasting, my husband order a carmel and bannan shake and never got this till we asked before we left, went up to pay our bill , very long line of people waiting to check out, girl working the register just ups and leaves, no one know why, she returned with money in hand (change I guess), my turn to check out, I have a gift card , card does not work, again girl just leaves, see her seating people at tables, while I stand ther waiting to check out. Manager comes over and say whats the problem, my gift card will not work he tryes it and still nothing, then says how much is on card, (I could have said any amount) but I told him it was for 25 dollars, finally I can leave , WE WILL NOT BE BACK, this is our second time , and we are done with BIG BOY, no one there know what they are doing.

A year ago I could get the Senior Special Dinner with beverage and a newspaper for apx $8.00.
I ate at Big Boy normally 10 times a week,5-7 dinners, 3-4 lunches. They no longer have the Senior dinners. The new menu costs me apx $17.00 and no free news paper. Thats $10.99 for spaghetti, $2.39 for coffee, increase in sales tax, increase in 20% tip. More than double the price. Being on Social Security I can no longer afford to eat at Big Boys. Which is too bad as I really enjoyed the help and the owners, it was home for me They have lost a 35 year customer.Grumpy

My husband and I go to the Frischs on 18 in Florence, we love the staff but the food has gotten where we have run out of options. Horrible! Cannot find the meat on the Big Boy and you changed the chicken strips to mystery meat. Sunday we and another couple came in to do the breakfast bar. NO BACON! ( this was 9:30 in the morning) The other couple said that is why they left the Erlanger store. Then Wednesday we went again and I wanted onion rings, Told sorry we are out of BATTER! Today and probably the last I ordered FIsh and fries fish was old and cold as were the fries. My husband ordered the patty melt it came with huge cut ungrilled onions. He sent it back and they did NOTHING he got the same sandwhich onions were the same and when he complained again was told sorry. We spend about $60 a week here but I cant find anything now that is worth eating. Manager looked out office door once , this is the end for us. SAD

On 11/20/18 at 5:08pm went for dinner at Valley View Store#0524 in Ohio. Service was terrible for the entire time we were there. Waited 10 minutes for a someone to seat us, then waited another 5 minutes for some to take our order. Table was sticky from the last customer, had to lay napkins over the table. After our food came the waitress never came back to see if we were doing ok, only to bring us our check! Something better be done with this restraint or it will be closing soon!

Many years now i have been ordering the brawny lad sandwich. Today jan. 30th 2018, i was told that they no longer have rye buns. Are you kidding me. You have a great signature sandwich and you think you have to change it. Well it. Was an ok one with another bun, but not the same. It was the best thing on the menu. Bring back the rye bun, please

On January 19, 2018 at 5:50 we ordered at Frisch by phone at lower Colerain Ave with Shauntav

G at the carry out area. Upon completion she stated it would be ready in 15-20 minutes.

We didn’t leave the house at 6:00 stopping at one place on the way to Frisch. We arrived at

Frisch at 6:10 PM, a waiter named Tony meet us asking how he can help us very polite. I stated I

Had a carry out ordered that was called in. Tony let the grill area know Dianna was here to

pick up her order. A few minutes went by and a Blonde waitress ask if she could check us out.

She was very polite and handle the task with a lot of knowledge of her job. I walked down to the

End of the counter to wait for my food. I noticed that our order had not been started until now

At 6:15 PM past the time frame I was given. Tony had to come back to the carry out to help this

Shauntav complete my order. Finally at 6:25 PM my order was brought to me, we checked to

Make sure our order was corrected. We started to leave the place when this Shauntav said she

Had to check me out. I replied I had already paid and continued to leave. Shauntav jerked the

shopping bag away from my granddaughter. I was the only one she asked to pay for my

ordered. If I had not paid I would not of had my receipt, this is the way they have always done

it. I gave her my receipt and she looked at it. I requested for her to hand my receipt to me as I

used a credit card, she refused and threw my receipt toward the bag. I requested to have my

Receipt in my hand. She replied very rudely its in the bag. At this time I requested to speak

To her manager and she stated she was the manger. I asked her who her boss was ad she

Stood and stared at me. We left the Frisch afraid our food was becoming cold. At arriving

home I asked for the receipt. Counting me at total of 4 people looked for the receipt. A phone

Call was made back to Frisch. Shauntav answered the phone, he asked where our receipt was.

She said I put it in the bag and I viewed the video to make sure. She said she would make me
A copy of the receipt. I wanted the original receipt as it had my credit card number on it and
anyone could get it to use it. Before I make a police report concerning my granddaughter being
Jerked and my credit card being compromise I will wait until I here from you with a
Resolution before I file a report. Thanks in advance for any help in resolving this matter.

    Very unhappy customer,
    Dianna

My husband and I go to our local Big Boy in Marysville, Ohio at least twice a week. Your new menu is rather confusing. The meat loaf dinner says meal loaf over mashed potatoes and sauce with two sides, and dinner roll. When I ordered it I was told that the mashed potatoes is considered one of the two sides. It doesn’t say that. Now maybe a mistake was made when writing up the menus. That’s not the customers fault. You need to have the phrase over mashed potatoes marked off or remake the menus. But until then you should serve it the way it reads. The best thing to tell the customer would be ” The menu is wrong but until the change is made you’re welcome to have the second side.” What you don’t tell them is what I was told last night. ” If it’s that big of a deal you can have the second side.”. That was what the manager said to me last night, Dec. 13 th.

While visiting my home town I always visit Big Boy locations either on M97 or Hall Road and Garfield.
The quality seems more like what I remember when I was growing up! Kudos to the Big Boy owners. Unfortunately, we visited yesterday and I was told the Swiss Miss is removed from the menu. I am so disappointed! I’m supposing the Brawny Lad will also be removed. With a better representation on the menu, sales would be better. I wasn’t sure they were still on the menu of abundant choices! Perhaps introducing another sandwich using the Pattie and rye bun would save the sandwiches. My waitress recommended the sandwich using a different hamburger Pattie since the other ingredients were still available. It was very good. So the question is can you keep the regular and faithful customers in mind and happy…ultimately returning?

I choose Big Boy whenever possible. The Clio Big Boy is one of my families favorite restaurants ( We even hold our family birthday and celebration dinners there). I know it’s a safe place even when we’re traveling and my family will be fed in a way that Mom’s expect. Today we visited the Alma location. It was deplorable. It took a LONG TIME ( appox 30 min) after the order was placed for our food to arrive. When it arrived it was cold and un -edible. The pancakes couldn’t be cut because they were rubber like. The sausage had a horrible taste, the gravy had unidentifiable “meat” in it. I could go on and on about this miserable excuse for a $70 “meal”. Also….. Seeing the insulation of the walls from the inside of the building does not seem safe. I have never made a complaint about an establishment but I just could not let this pass. We did have one good point too this experience- our waitress! She was a nice young lady and the sole reason I didn’t ask for our “meal” to be free. This establishment does not live up to the Big Boy name as far as I am concerned. Thanks for your time and attention to my experience.

I visit Mason, Mi big boy on 11/17/2016, I am a regular customer and I go to big boy every day for coffee, we’ll today I was ask to move because a group 10 shown up. I don’t think that was right for big boy employee asking me to move, so they (big boy) can have a tables available. No one should be ask to move because they didn”t have the tables available. Thank u for looking into this matter and please do take care of the problem.
