The owner and current CEO of Pet Food Express, Mark Levy, was not allowed to have pets as he grew up, so he started his own dog walking business when he was 11.
In 1976, Levy owned a dog training business in San Francisco, California. He wanted to open a store that offered pet food, accessories, self-service pet washing stations, and dog training. Levy founded Pet Food Express in 1986. The company now has 61 stores throughout California.
The company does not sell pets from breeders but has placed more than 61,000 homeless cats and dogs to find new homes through their adoption program. Pet Food Express sells natural pet foods, and high-quality accessories, and states that they won’t sell anything they would not personally use on their pets.
Pet Food Express has inspired many other would-be pet store entrepreneurs.
The company maintains a corporate office in Oakland, California.

The most appalling service I ever had. I actually called 911 after an employee grabbed my phone out of my hand. This same employee made my 88 year old mother with Alzheimer’s cry because my mom didn’t have her receipt to make a return. And when asked if they could look it up as she paid with her credit card the answer was “NO”.
I’ve personally been a manager in the retail world for over 25-30 years in the past and have given lectures on Customer Service, this location was rude and insulting to both my mother and myself. I am expecting a call back from the corporate office and will continue to reach out until I do hear from them. This experience is something I intend to share with any and all who will listen. This includes our local news outlet. Lack of customer service to the point of making old ladies cry. I will be interested in just how long if at all it will take to get a reply. Do NOT shop at Pet Food Express in Loehmann’s Plaza Shopping Center in Sacramento, CAhe. BTW I already have the bank transaction showing the purchase which they could have used to reprint my mom’s receipt. I guess that’s not in their job description. Michael Levy, your employee’s need training and I would prefer the call be from you. I’m still not sure that your employee realizes that she was a sliver away from committing an assault. I would print her name here, but she refused to give me her name when I asked. Regardless she was working between 4-6 on 3/8/24. I hope to hear from SOMEONE soon.

I have been purchasing dog food from your Davis, CA location for more than two years. However, when I went to another nearby store to buy dog toys yesterday, I noticed that the same Nutrisource Chicken/Rice #30 lb bag of dog food was priced at $51.99, which was significantly less than the $64.99 charged by Pet Food Express in Davis. This price difference is quite substantial, and I believe that Pet Food Express needs to reevaluate its pricing strategies to avoid price gouging.
When I contacted the store to inquire about price matching, I had difficulty understanding the process as explained by the employee. Another employee took over the phone and informed me that I would have to contact the other pet supply store every time I purchase food and let the person ringing me up hear their price for a match. This policy is inconvenient and not practical for me.
It appears that Pet Food Express prioritizes profit over customer service.

Today was a very frustrating day for me because I have to make my way over to Beverly Hills as you all are aware we don’t have many stores around and I have been a customer of that store since the date opened and today was the worst unaccommodating day possible

I have had 3 unsatisfactory visits at your Antioch CA store. The dog wash areas are FILTHY! Specifically, BLACK MOLD surrounding the edges of the dog tubs. In addition the tubs always appear dirty. I have brought this to the attention to Tony the manager, but he says that ‘corporate’ has to do something about it.
Most often the bathing area is low on soap/or out, or a dryer does not work. There is an area with ‘spray bottles’ of extra soap, but once you find out the machine is not dispensing, you are faced with leaving your dog tethered to walk across the room to retrieve the soap. Yesterday, most of bottles were empty. I took pictures yesterday of the bottles, and most importantly the MOLD. I am happy to share these photos with you. This is a health hazard to my dog and myself!
PLEASE do something!
