I went to Houston’s in New Orleans at 3 in the afternoon to eat at the bar, which I frequently do. Ordered my food and then my phone rang. Normally I wouldn’t answer but the nearest people to me were more than 12 feet away and I couldn’t hear them talking though they were nonstop. My call was to be brief but no sooner did I answer than some mouse snuck up behind me and dropped a card beside my plate and darted away before I could see him. Card says: DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE WHILE IN HOUSTON’S. Food is not cheap here. I go often. A man in a booth close to me was on his phone the entire time I was there, talking loud. Wonder if he got this super insulting little sneak card they don’t have to guts to hand you. I won’t be going back. New Orleans is full of great restaurants and Houston’s has ONE dish I really like. I’ll find something I like as much somewhere else. What a bunch of a-holes. Nobody around me. And the sneak up and hand me this d**khead card.

C. Cooper (comments dates 10/07/2021) you are not alone. Likewise, as a Back woman I have been eating at Houston’s since inception. For many years daily and on occasions twice a day. Memphis Houston’s has a racist hiring posture. Black assistant managers’ tenure are short lived. Very few Black waiters and the Black waiters Houston’s does have are not assigned to shifts like lunch and dinner where most tips are made.
The original general manager -Jack in my opinion was a racist. And JR, who had a nice rapport with the Black clientele was not granted the position of general manager after Jack departure. There was a female waiter -Jade who I understand left Memphis to work as manager at another Houston’s location.
The current general manager Ralph Price had the nerve to tell me by phone that he knows Memphis Houston’s regular customers. NEW FLASH: RALPH PRICE I was eating at Houston’s when you were in grade school and did not know Houston’s restaurant even existed. You are in your position solely due to white privilege. It shows you only make an effort like former general manager -Jack to be friendly and familiarize yourself with only white customers.
I was refused a $10 credit on a dessert by a million dollar enterprise.
The racist atmosphere at the Memphis location discourages patronage and the lack of politeness professionalism by the staff at the Beverly Hills HQ, specifically Jessica Treadway who just takes side with Houston’s staff when facts prove otherwise. Comments on this website page shows Memphis Houston’s and HQ have a great disdain for Black customers and people.
Which begs to ask why are white people in general so hateful when they have all the advantages to life? Mr. Robert Wilkinson, COO when will the executive staff at Houstons’ show professionalism and respect to Black clientele and address concerns.

I was at Woodmont Grill in Bethesda last night and was denied service after making reservations for two for me and my girl friend who met me there in two separate cars for an Odor other than the Yves Saint Laurent cologne I just sprayed on myself as what was the odor she said it was strong and all the employees agreed with her but when I asked employees they had a different story to make the long story short I figure hey I’ll just leave and let my girl friend order take out they wouldn’t serve us Two Hawaiian steaks said we couldn’t order steak for take out and the. Denied her service for the same reason they denied me and she is 8 1/2 months pregnant and we didn’t ride in the same car she didn’t smell like anything she doesn’t even smoke nothing Houston’s is my favorite restaurant in the whole metropolitan area and I got to hillstone on 47th all the time I was really embarrassed and feel like it was racial discrimination and I am going to purse this issue legally

Omg November 27. 2021 I went through a similar situation. It was my birthday we had reservations at Woodmont Grill in Bethesda my daughter and I got there first we were waiting for my other daughter to arrive she was 8 months pregnant. My daughter and I was standing near the door that’s when gen manager approached us and said we smell like marijuana I look at my daughter at this point my daughter knows that’s my favorite place to eat. I’m thinking I’m being punched they know I’m about to lose it but, the man was serious. He ask us to step aside so he can smell us and we followed him he sniffed us and said he didn’t smell anything and he apologized so we’re waiting for my pregnant daughter to walk in .the restaurant door was propped open people were going in and out. I said that’s messed up I’ve never been accused of smoking weed before I’ve never smoked weed in 53 years there’s people are looking and listening I was embarrassed. I ask when are we going to be seated he said when your other party gets here I said she’s hear and that’s when she walked. My daughter immediately ask where the bathroom is because she’s 8 months pregnant she stepped away to use the the bathroom and we ask again when are we going to be seated she said give her a minute. My daughter returns from the bathroom and now I’m excited to eat but , still bothered about the incident took place now my two daughters myself and my daughter boyfriend are standing waiting to be seated. I black guy walk up to us and say how may I help you I hear somebody has a birthday I said we just waiting to be seated he said about that he put his hands. Together and went down line saying either you you you or you in a circular motion and he stopped at my oldest daughter smell like weed. I first of all we just got accused of this a few minutes ago and the manager sniffed us in front of the whole restaurant. I told him he was disrespectful number one my baby girl is 8 months pregnant I’ve never smoked a day in my life I told them I’ve been coming to Houston and Woodmont grill since they were little and now they bring there kids I asked him do you think all black people smoke I said well they don’t. My youngest daughters were very upset because I’ve been going there forever and they knew my birthday was going to be messed up because the made us leave. We did go to another restaurant in Bethesda but I couldn’t eat. The racist manager never stopped any other people that was going in or out to sniff them. I felt degraded and embarrassed to have that happen to me on my birthday. SMH I wanted to stand outside and protest Woodmont Grill in Bethesda for being bias honestly I don’t know why this still hurts.

My friend and I had reservations for dinner at Hillstone on September 30, 2021 at the Biltmore location as we have many times before. We had a glass of wine each, an appetizer, entree and dessert. At the end of our meal, a tall women approached our table and coolybsays that we need to leave as there is another reservation waiting for our table! She said we could continue our conversation in the bar! Really? Guess this restaurant does not value repeat, faithful clientele!

Good Afternoon, I have been a customer of Houston’s Memphis for over 30 years although I have not been able to eat there as often as I like because of Covid. I simply don’t understand why the Chicken Tenders, one of the resturants favorite items, have been taken off the menu . I know they have not been on the menu for sometime but were still available for those of us who love them , also a favorite was the Club Salad.. I know I am not the only customer who loved this item. Please explain why an item that is so popular is not available? thank you for your time.

I have eaten at Houston restaurants for over 25 years and i’ve enjoyed meals nationwide.
Now, let’s discuss what happen in Memphis on November 17th late evening. My experience was absolutely devastating with how the manager and host treared minorities in the restaurant, I am Caucasian. I noticed how blacks waited for hours while whites were being seated constantly.
The lobby was left with only minorities waiting to be seated, so embarrassing for hours.
Management in the pass in memphis was very professional and not bias, the host seem to have gotten a kick out the situation that she controlled, smiling and dancing.
Houstons is such a wonderful place to dine and I would hate for the company to become involved in this type if behavior.
Thank you, for your time.

The clientele at the Memphis restaurant has changed! The customers are 70% black. I am black and each time that I have attempted to do business with this location the staff always does something to discourage me from eating there. Excuses on why I cannot receive satisfactory service range from “cannot take phone orders” to “must make reservations” to “reservations must be made an hour in advance” to “cannot seat you until all parties arrive”, to “cannot serve you on the patio” to cannot seat you for hours. After staying away from the restaurant for a year, a friend who loves the food there offered to meet me and my mom there to celebrate my birthday today, 10/7/2021. I thought perhaps since it was an early dinner at 4:30 pm we should have a better experience. Boy was I wrong! I tried ordering a “basket of cheese toast” with my meal, but the server informed me that I would receive two pieces with my Emerald Kale salad. She asked if I wanted to order more above what I was already getting. I said no, the two would be sufficient. Hearing that two pieces would come with the salad, my friend decided to order the same thing. When our checks came, there was a $5.00 charge on her check and $5.00 on mine for the two pieces of toast that we each received. $10.00 for the 4 pieces of toast that our server told us came free with the salads! My friend questioned the server, so she (the server) sent the manager over. My friend asked me to share our conversation with the server about our order with the manager, which I did. The manager stated that they stopped serving cheese toast with the salads a “long, long, long time ago”. My friend informed him that this was not true because she and her husband frequented the restaurant and have received the pieces with their salads and even other entrees. As I observed the dialogue taking place between the manager and my friend, I could clearly see the manager dug in on his stance! He was clearly adamant that we were going to pay for the toast regardless to what our server told us. The server was no where to be found during the managers visit. I interrupted the dialog and asked the manager if he was basically saying that there was nothing that he could do to remove the charge. He said no, there was nothing that he could do. I asked him to remove the $5.00 charge from my friends check and place it on mine. I paid for my meal and my mom’s for a total check of $105, which included the $5.00 for the toast for my friend. I usually leave a 20% tip because I know that frontline employees, especially waitresses have been hit pretty hard during the pandemic. I am not sure who to blame for the server losing her tip, the idiot parading as a manager or the server who could very well not have received proper training from the idiot. Either way, a fast food restaurant would have done better for customer service and customer retention. I sensed it a long time ago that the Houston’s location in Memphis does not value black or African American customers. The reactions, demeanor, and attitude of the staff to our visits is that of resentment. I had shared my experiences and feelings about it with my friend in the past, but she didn’t believe me. She simply thought that everyone was being treated the same at Houston’s. Today, she finally got it! In addition to the embarrassment, she said that never had she been treated that way by any manager of a restaurant. And no less over a $5 charge for a couple of pieces of cheese toast. But I understand that it was not about the cheese toast, but more about the color of our skin!

To whom it may concern: I have been eating at Houston’s New Orleans for 20 plus years. With my husband for dates, family and friends to celebrate, with co workers, also large parties for my businesses. One of myself and my guest favorite menu items has always been the smoked salmon. But we have always requested it to be put on the grill. Request always granted!! However my last to visit I was told it couldn’t be put on the grill. The first time they came back and told me the chef agreed to do so. Perfect me and hubby had a great date night. Last week me and a girl friend went in specifically for the smoked /grilled salmon. And not only were we told it could not be put on the grill no one could give a explanation of why. The manager Ralf told us he has been there for 4 months and no one had had it that way and was very rude about it. Even at the point we chose not to dine there because we came there for the smoked salmon. We had not been offered anything but a fine with us attitude. Since I was offered my salmon the way I prefer it the first time but treated rudely the second time with no explanation other than the executive chef does not want to do it makes me think they can do what they want. I as a long time customer feel it’s my RIGHT to have my food the way I like. I have had my smoked salmon put on the grill for many years. I would love to know a reasonable explanation for this!!!! And to be treated the way I was. Me my friends, family and.buisness associates will never go there again.,.,,,

I understand that this may be overkill but here goes I am turning 69 on June 30, 2021 and I live in the Bay Area.
It has always been my goal to have dinner at the Los Altos Grill in Los Altos California which is part of your group but I am slightly frustrated because apparently I can only get a reservation for four people at 5:15 in the evening and ideally want To dine with three other people I total of four at 6:30 in the evening so why not try this. I have always been impressed by the quality restaurants that are operated by your company. I am hoping you can help me out my phone number is area code 925 998-XXXX. Thank you believe me I will express my appreciation to your staff and to the company.
