Food Maxx was founded in 1986 by current CEO Bob Piccinini in Fresno, California. The company operates a chain of no-frills supermarkets.
In 1986, the idea of no-frills, warehouse-type supermarkets was a unique concept. Rather than spend money making stores look pretty, Piccinini believed that people would be willing to give up fancy storefronts to save serious money on groceries. Today, the company has more than 52 stores in California and Nevada, operating under the Food Maxx, Food 4 Less, MaxxValue, Lucky, and Save Mart names.
In 2007, the company acquired numerous Albertson’s stores in the San Francisco and Sacramento, California, area and changed them to Lucky or Save Mart names.
In December 2022, the company announced that it would offer a “tamale central” in select stores.
Food Maxx maintains a corporate office in Modesto, California.

This is a sad story that needs to be told about a situation at the foodmaxx in Citrus Heights, CA. On sunrise Blvd. my wife began working there almost three years ago. The place has always been a mess with stories of s*x in closets and secret relationships. Never thought I would become a victim of this stores love triangle, but I did and now I’m going though a divorce. My wife and I have been together 13 years and married 7 with seven kids she gave up on to seek the attention of a night stock named Angel and a meat department guy name Justin. They were exchanging nude photos and engaging in s*xual talk on a private app called WhatsApp on her phone. I think they need to investigate because I believe there is s*x taking place on the job and it’s not right. Secret relationships and s*x should not be going on in the work place, I’m sure sooner or later there will be a s*xual harassment lawsuit at that store. I will never step foot in a foodmaxx again!

While shopping at foodmaxx I observed a very nice gentlemen with a grocery cart with 8 bags of groceries trying to push the cart out of store . He was confronted by store personnel and the man took 4 bags out of store anyway then came back in stole the other 4 bags. This is crazy! People steal from this store all the time. Is this a safety issue or a nice write off for the corporation! I will not shop at foodmaxx anywhere or your affilates again. Not a good situation because I definetly do not feel safe there. It is safer at the zoo!

I shop at foodmaxx regularly since they advertise great deals and I am a Couponer. However why is it every time I go in the cashier has no clue what the policy is and get totally confused to the point that it take 4 employee to read a coupon and they still get it wrong! The last trip upset me when I was denied to use my coupon because the item was on sale! Where is that in ur policy! Because i feel that every time I go in I’m discriminated against and they allow other to buy multiples and use coupon on sale items! UNLESS YOUR WANTING A LAWSUIT U MIGHT WANT TO FIX THIS

Hello,
I am writing to you this letter for your benefits and for the customers to feel welcome in your store in Oroville, California. I have been shopping at this store since you started it in Oroville. I have been in retail business for the last 43 years and I am sorry to let you know that your customer service is not up to par. In fact your customer service your customer service stinks. You need to learn customer service from Raley’s stores. Although I mentioned bad customers service to probably more than 10 times to the floor managers in the evening and I mentioned that to the cashiers many times, there is no improvement. Your managers and your employees with no exception must be retrained. I have shopped super markets and independent store, I have never seen a worse customer service than the one I see and feel in your Oroville store. By the way, I started hearing that people are tired of being disrespected in your store and they are going now to Smart and Final store that just opened in town. I used to buy all my grocery needs from your store but I don’t do it any more. If your customer service doesn’t improve, I’ll stop going there. Your cashiers hardly say hello to the customers. Yesterday, when a cashier asked me if everything was alright, I said to her everything would be much better if you provide your customers with better service. I was number ten waiting in line for the only open check out. People don’t have to wait in line for that long. More than once I saw the male cashier checking his messages on his smart phone while the customer was writing a check or trying to pay electronically. Your employees pay no attention and have no respect to the customers who are there to keep you in business and to pay their wages. I hope that you value your customers from now on and pay more attention to them. By the way, I don’t see in your store as many customers as before.

I worked for your company for 5 and a half years. I never once received my 5 year certificate nor did I receive my 5 year anniversary gift! Please feel free to email me about this. I will give you my old employee number so you can see for yourself. This is ridiculous I put my blood sweat and tears in this company. I should get the recognition like everyone else got when I was an employee for Foodmaxx store #402 sincerely Matthew Ford

I was doing the weekly shopping for the two care homes for the disabled that I work for. The weekly bill is between $250.00 and $400.00. Today I was at the Hayward Foodmaxx on Hesperian Blvd. I was at the register operated by Angela clerk #154877. I had two carts of food, one for each house. Before she started, I asked her for eight bags, and asked her if she would ring up the bread in the first card, so it would not get crushed, and I could put it in the upper tray of the cart. She did not do it and just kept on ringing up the other groceries. The time I was at her register, she did not say hello, or reply to me. She did the same on my second cart. I told her that if she did not like her work, she should find another job. I asked for the store manager and said I would like to file a complaint. The store manager said I could file a complaint on the information at the bottom of my receipt. On checking my recent, there is no information to file a complaint. I hope the clerk was no ignoring me because I was white and she was an African American. (The law forbids discrimination). I am 74 and have always had a good relationship with others that work in the store, and hope that internal affairs will check into this complaint.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I am a federally recognized disabled person with a service dog. I have been approached multiple times with inquires about my service animal. I have even offered to show my service dog tags. I have been told Food MAxx only recognizes paperwork. Other employees have told me the manager Mr. Edwardo Barrios, has instructed to them to say that only LARGE service dog are accepted. I have a MEDIUM SIZE service dog with tags thjat were given to me from the Dog Licensing Department, Fresno, CA.
This repeated behavior has appearances of harassment against a disabled person.
Please instruct the store manager, at the Food Maxx located on Blackstone and Barstow, that this corporate office has been put on notice of their behavior. If I am denied service because of having a service dog, I have no recourse but to seek legal action and have this matter adjudicated with the Superior Court, Fresno.
