Citgo was founded in1910 by Henry Doherty in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The company began very small and was named Cities Services Company. It provided gas and electricity to small, local, utility companies in the state.
Today, Citgo belongs in part to Petroleos de Venezuela and part to Rosnef, a Russian oil and gas company. Citgo is one of the world’s largest suppliers of gas, lubrication, and electrical services. In 2004, the company had an annual revenue of $32.02 billion and employs approximately 4,000 people in the US. The company has 3 oil refineries in the US and more than 140 facilities across the US. The company offers its own credit card for purchases at their facilities.
The company is a major sponsor of the Bassmaster Fishing Tour, and is also the sponsor of a charity golf tournament benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In 2016, the company donated half a million dollars to the presidential campaign of Donald Trump.
In November 2021, the company announced that it would be replacing two board members.
Also that same month, the company began new talks with the US government in an attempt to stave off bankruptcy and risk breaking up the company to pay outstanding debts.
Headquartered in the Energy Corridor area of Houston, Texas, it is majority-owned by PDVSA, a state-owned company of the Venezulean government (although due to U.S. sanctions, in 2019, they no longer economically benefit from Citgo).

I quit citgo in Bayou Vista, La. Because of discrimination & being falsely accused from a customer & the manager came in & sent me home. I may not be perfect, but try my hardest to make sure that customers are pleased before leaving the store and for customers to come in & get unnecessary attitudes with me & have the nerve to file a complaint on me is absolutely wrong. The slogan, “The customers are always right” is bullseye & they know it. Some customers get mad or catch an attitude when you ask for their I.D. & then get an even bigger attitude when they don’t have it. The whole management system is nothing but a bunch of snakes & all they do tell on other ppl like their getting paid extra to do it or getting an award for it & they’re not. And then you got employees who throw a rock with one hand & try to hide the other. I know it’s about customer satisfaction, but as a manager, before you send an employee home, find out their story 1st from their mouth rather than someone else’s & considering they’re a so-call Manger, when coming in, shouldn’t they look like one, rather than looking like a hobo off the the street or like they just came from lounging around the house?? They’re suppose to be representing a place of business, not looking like they feel like coming in, because just wearing a badge is not doing it!! And not only that, but as a store manager, at no given point should you feel free to inform your employees that you will beat another former employee ‘s ass if she steps foot back in the store while they’re in there & that they have bond money to get themselves out…Are you serious?? Very poor sportsmanship & very terrible management!!

Bought a carton of cigarettes to try a new kind , told her I wanted non-menthol shorts she gives me a carton of lights or menthol lights, when I questioned her she said oh no there non menthol so when I smoked one I realize they were wrong, went back in and she refuse exchange and refuse to let me talk to a manager, and you can’t get ahold of no one in corporate, so what kind of business is this,
Heather Kendall says
I went into Citgo at 94 Main street, Spencer Ma to purchase a pack of cigarettes. I was digging in my purse for my debit card and a woman behind me handed the guy at the register a 20 dollar bill and said “here, I want to pay for her purchase. Someone paid it forward to me recently so I want to pay it forward.” I thanked the woman but declined and said “it’s ok, I found my card but thank you for the offer “. The man at the register rudely said “I wouldn’t allow that anyway”. The woman and I just kinda looked at each other and shook our heads. I then began to proceed with my purchase. I told the man at the register that I would like to spilt my purchase and pay for some on my card and the rest in cash. I said “Can you put $3 on my card first and then I will give you $6.95 in cash?” He then told me that when I run my card it will show me my balance and then I select how much I want to run my card for. Now I know this is not how it works. He has to put it in on his side. So I said “I’ve never heard of that or done it that way. But ok….” So I sceptically ran my card and it did not show me my balance or ask me how much I wanted to run it for just like a suspected. It declined bc it tried to run my card for the entire $9.95. So I said “See, you have to do it on your end. Would you like me to give you the cash first?”(Now I asked if he wanted the cash first bc I do know that some stores have to put the cash in first if the costumer wants to split the payment of the purchase.). He then proceeded to tell me that he can’t do that. I told him that I do it all the time.(now mind you I’ve been very calm, respectful and patient up to this point) I said “I know you can do it but that’s fine, I will go to a different store.” The woman behind me whispers to me, “wait outside, let me pay it forward”, as I’m walking out the door. So I do. I’m standing outside by the window and I see the guy at the register arguing with the woman trying to pay it forward and buy the pack of cigarettes for me. He has an angry look on his face, he’s all animated, waving his arms with the cigarettes in his hand. The woman comes outside and I said “He didn’t let you buy them did he?”(Now I forgot to mention that he never asked for an ID and I’m 35 & the other woman was 50 which we had mentioned to the employee who stated he can tell we were of age. So that was not the issue) The woman says “I got the cigarettes but he almost didn’t give them to me. When I asked him “why” he said “bc she’s (meaning me) a moocher”(if you don’t know what that means, it means I take from people and never give back)”. So NOW I’m angry, I’m offended! This man DOES NOT KNOW ME! I’ve been working since I was thirteen, I currently work two jobs and I have NEVER mooched off anyone! I’ve never met that man for him to attack my character and I tried to pay for my cigarettes and he didn’t know how to spilt my purchase! I also originally declined the woman’s offer to pay it forward for me. And I don’t think me ending up excepting her offer to pay it forward makes me a moocher either? She actually looked a little upset and offended when I declined her offer the first time and clearly felt good about being able to do so in the end. So me feeling offended by his comment, I went back inside and said “excuse me sir, you do not know me! How dare you call me a moocher!?!” He started yelling at me Infront of all the costumer’s saying he “remembers me” so I said “we have NEVER met! What is my name? What kind of vehicle do I drive?” He said that it didn’t matter if he didn’t know that. So I said “well then what do you know about me or what have you seen that would consider me a moocher?” The man behind the counter screams at me to “Get the f*ck out and never come back!”. I’ve never felt so degraded, publicly violated verbally and emotionally, and insulted like that! He was very unprofessional, rude and didn’t know how to run the register. My husband, my teenage son & I use that Citgo all the time and have always been served by one of these three young men who are very nice, and professional. This was my first encounter with this older man and I do not feel comfortable to EVER buy anything from that store again! When I told my husband he said that he’s had encounters with this older man before and he’s always grumpy, rude and miserable! I can’t stop thinking about the situation and that I will never use that store again as long as I might have to be served by him. Plus, I no longer feel welcome bc when he told me to “Get the f*ck out” he also said “Never come back”.

Their is a privately owned CITGO located 5380 Sheriff Rd; Seat Pleasant, MD, 20743. About 2 years ago, they had a major accident that cause severe damage to the station. They have reopened and have REFUSED to make repairs. This is affecting our property value and attracts horrible people to this location.
Understanding this is an already low income neighborhood, we still deserve better. I have gone to this station and asked over and over again when they will fix it. They state “soon” every time. This is your brand and you need to DEMAND these owners do something about this.

I would like to start by saying I try to use Citgo for my gas purchases when ever possible.
I recently found the Citgo station at 1537 Ridgewood Ave Holly Hill Fl. which is closer to my home.closer to my home .
Every time I go there I have to go in to get a receipt ,doesn’t matter which pump I use. It is so annoying and inconvenient . The last time I went there I asked why I have to come in to get a receipt and was told the machine is broke .I said all of them he said yes. I said so fix them . He said I cant afford it.
Theres nothing appealing about this place either .It could use a face lift and a good cleaning.
I really hope someone will look into this matter.
Thanks Lynn Woodard

I just recently applied for a part time position at Citgo in town and I thought after not working for 10years or longer that I would give it a try .I was disabled and currently still am but I know in my mind that I could do this.I went in there yesterday and asked the manager if she heard of anything back on my application that I filled out and she said she did and that I cannot be hired because of security reasons, which she would not tell me.So,I decided to check on this issue myself.I know that I have a record on me but its only from D.W.I. and this is all from over twenty years ago and I dont even drink anymore.I just went through cancer treatment about two years ago and its in remisson and Im glad I made it through this .All I wanted was some type of part time job,I used to work at a gas station years ago and even became asst. manager and I loved it .I like working with the public, thats the way I was brought up.Repect your elders. If you have any concerns on this matter, please dont hesitate to get a hold of me.Thank You for your time. I am currently a Citgo Rewards card holder and had not used my card for a while. My account has always been paid on time and it was most upsetting when I go into Wheels, Tamarack Ave., Danbury, Ct. put my card in and it is rejected. I went into the store an questioned why, and was not given any reason for my card rejection. I was in a hurray as I needed to drive a long distance and they more or less shrugged their shoulder and said don’t know and don’t care. I left there and am tempted to give u back my credit card as it is no good to me if it is rejected with no explanation. Why???
