Wendy's History

Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio.  The chain featured square hamburger patties and Frosties.

In 1970, Thomas opened a second location in Columbus.  This location would add the first modern drive thru window in 1971.

In 1972, the first franchise is sold.

By 1976, there are 500 restaurants and the company goes public.

In 1978, the 1000th location opens.

In 1979, Wendy’s was the first chain to introduce a salad bar.

By 1983, there are 2500 locations.

In 1985, the company merges with Tim Hortons.

By 1987, there are 5000 locations.

In 2002, founder Dave Thomas dies.

In 2006, the company headquarters is moved to Dublin, Ohio where they remain today.

In 2008, the company merged with Triac, owner of Arby’s.

Today, Wendy’s is the third largest hamburger fast food chain in the world with nearly 7000 restaurants worldwide.

Hlo my name is larissa nichols,
I quit yesterday for a variety of reasons. For instance I walked into work yesterday, and I asked my manager “where do you want me ?” She responded “move some of us are trying to work” then I responded “letty where do you want me” later on in the beginning of the week I showed her my clock out sheets after closing Sunday and on Monday we sign a sheet showing how many hours we have worked for the past three weeks mine have been wrong and I showed letty my clock out sheets and told her I want it fixed her exact words were “there’s nothing we can do about it” the manager there is stealing employees hours and adding them onto the managers hours just so they hit their exact hours that’s stealing labor and money. So, I contacted my lawyer and I am during Wendy’s company for stealing and not handing out paper paycheck stubs because that is against the law.

This is gold, I was just a customer at wendys and they stole from me twice. Once cash (they never gave me my change back, and refused to fix the problem) second time ( employee stole my cc info and went on a shopping spree). Nobody will do anything about it either it’s like the Wendy’s corporation condones it, and almost promotes their employees to be thieves. Knowing that they steal from their employees makes a lot of sense now!

About 3 weeks ago, I went into work to open grill at 7:30am. My opening manager said he saw me riding my bike to Wendy’s that morning. I was in the mall parking lot and the ground was icy, so therefore I did not stop at one of the mall’s stop signs, not to mention there was no traffic due to it being 7am. I had been in an accident and hit by a car a week before that. When I got to work my boss Ari told me that I deserved to get hit by a car, and that he hopes I get hit by a car again. This was as mean as it could get, I mean how can a boss tell an employee you hope they get hit by a car?

Well I called HR and its been three weeks, nothing. I talked to my GM who came in that afternoon, and he said that I had to be taken off the schedule until this was further investigated. I was furious, bills stacking up, no work, for doing the right thing. I was told by the first employee help guy that I would receive a call back from HR within 3 days. So I waited 3 days, no calls, so I made a call back and was told it was actually 10 business days, so I waited 2 weeks, and still nothing. I have found another job but today was my first day off during business hours to be able to call them back. They keep telling me there is nothing that they can do, even when I speak to the supervisor of the employee help center.

The law states a worker cannot be terminated for workplace retaliation, yet its been three weeks without work. I have spoken with a couple lawyers who say they are coming up on deadlines or I will have a legal case.

It’s been 20 days since my last post, wendys still has not paid me, it’s been over a month now of my HR telling me “your paycheck should be in tomorrow at 11″ and “your paycheck will come early this week” all of the time, but yet I’ve received nothing. Wendys, what you’re doing to your workers is ILLEGAL, not only by the state, but federally now. I just wanted my paycheck, for the hours that I worked and that its maditory I receive that, it’s not very hard. You guys are a $multi million, or $multi billion company, my paycheck is like pocket change to your company, it’s ridiculous that you withhold it from me.

I was fired from wendys yesterday st a store in st.john’s newfoundland canada store number 6740. the owner is named gerry murphy and head office just visited. he is keeping my check because he said i took frosty which i paid for. he told me if i call the labour board (in canada you call the for labour disputes) he was going to charge me and i would never get my check so thats black mail. to make the best of it he had me cook meat at 11:30 pm on the 5th for chili that was supposed to be used or thrown out before the 4th. so while head office was their their was a load of expired meat int he freezer which im sure they seen and the expiry date that was written on the bags of meat was changed to 2 weeks after the meat was cooked and not 7 days

The Wendy’s in St. Bernard Parish treats there worker like crap. They care only about money not the customer. They don’t allow workers to have breaks. 4 store mangers 10 mangers and maybe 15 workers if that with worker. I myself use to work there about 15 years back and I trained many to look at the customer first. Treat them with respect and same with ur them mates. Now they disrespect there workers forcing and tring to control them. I don’t kniw how things are in CEO land but this isn’t right. Step up and do ur jobs or I myself will have this Wendy’s shut down. Several worker at this Wendy’s come to me a former store manger telling me whats going on and no one does a tthing. Get off ur asses and do whats right r get fat and lazy like y’all have been doing.

I know some that works for your store # 0985001. He has worked there 21 years. He works on the gril. He said he has bennfits. But he is only paid 8.00 an hour. He does not work 40 hrs. He does come in extra. We all have bills to pay. He feels very unaprated..

I was onmy lunch break today anddecided to got to wendys for chicken nuggets and french fries. Despite the fact that their parking lot isnt plowed and people ae siding everywhere, as well as i sat in drive thru for 15 minutes patiently. I finally getup to the order board and state that i wanted french fries and a nuggets and the employee had a huge attitude with me and said DO YOU WANT SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE even though i didn’t order it i said no but i would like barque with a little frustration. and he said Okay well you have a nice f-ing day so i pulled off (while sliding) and went into the store and politely asked for the manager and he COMPLETELY gave me an attitude and said you cussed at my employee and im not serving you i don’t care what you have to say. SOMETHING NEEDS TO HAPPEN IM FURIOUS AFTER WAITING TWENTY FIVE MINUTES TO NOT BE SERVED ON MY LUNCH BREAK, THANKS WENDY’S!

Hungry, wanting dinner, my husband ask if i wanted to get something. I had, had
salad from the 58 East Wendy’s Danville Va. restaurant at Christmas, while out shopping, remembering the “WONDERFUL service” and delicious pecan salad! I said go to Wendy’s.
We were on Riverside Drive MISTAKE!!!
First at the window I think the girl was lazy and distant not asking questions to fulfill me dinner order: like what dressing I wanted or extras for salad that was a with fee; if I want blue cheese sprinkled on it blue cheese is not for everyone and sign did not say it had that ingredient or it was in small print not seen; not letting me know all about the salad and options ……. as it was done at Wendy’s 58 East
happy works just like with joy ready to assist people like me who had not gone to Wendy’s to eat.
Well, after asking so :many times” for two THOUSAND ISLAND dressings for a FULL salad; this rude young man with no speech to communicate said you only get one dressing see that sign the manager put up. I said this is a full salad I need two …please get the manger …..He brought her with her eyes rolling and a mad face looking at me. I said please give me two dressings I have a full salad.
The manager looks at the young man said it is support to be two ……. to understand young man
he said there is two in bag >>>>oh, my, NO there was not two and he would not even give me the dressing i ask for !
going down the road hungry and it was dark putting dressing on the salad tasted of my now upset salad … mad … and hungry. OKAY, the salad was DIRTY u know that taste and a honey ranch dressing to beat the boot >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
okay, 1)the order wrong 2) server was rude and untruthful 3) manger rude and rolling her eyes, mad correcting the server (at 2nd window) and not even speaking a kind word to me just walked away….

Wendy’s you are not going to get me to buy $7.00 salad again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i will go to the stake house!

I am a newly terminated employee who worked for the Wendys on the corner of Roberts and Hilliard Rome rd. I was terminated under suspicion that I had stolen $118 from my register. About one week after my termination, they discovered the misplaced funds stuck in the top of the permavault where I said it was , but I was not re-enstated, which I’m ok with. But paychecks were sent out on the 26th of December, 2 other employees, as well as myself did not receive their paychecks. I called my Wendys the following day and spoke to our district manager (Evan) who told me to call the ADT company, so I did and was told that it was a matter with my employer, so I called my Wendys again the following day(28th) and spoke to Evan again, whom said he’d contact the corporate office and get back to me in 2 business days, he failed to. So, I called again and Evan told me to contact the ADT company yet again, which left me in the same boat as before. So I called my Wendys yet again, and this time was connected with another of my managers (Cody) whom said he’d call color ate office and get back to me immediately. He did, which I appreciated, he told me to contact the ADT company, but to request to to speak to their distributive branch, so I did and was told by a man named Dave who told me to wait until the end of the set maximum pay period (semi-monthly) by the state of Ohio, then to send a complaint directly to corporate office on the 3rd of January. So I waited, then on the third, tried to contact the office on 3 separate occasions by house phone, and was disconnected immediately each time. I made no attempts on the 4th due to illness from food poisoning. Then today I called via cell phone and was sent to an oporator which told me to state my issue and also leave my comment on the Wendys corp website. It is 2 days passed the leeway period set by the Ohio Board of labor and is protected Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, that I receive my paycheck on time. It also states that I should receive double pay as compensation for the time I’ve had to spend borrowing money from friends and family to make ends meet, I’m not too sure on that, and don’t particularly find it nessisary. I just want my last paycheck, including my severance pay and the hours I worked (12) pay will be satisfactory, but if I’m not met or given my paycheck within the next two weeks, I will be forced to take legal action in order to receive what I am owed which, depending on how the situation goes, would result in me receiving double pay, or could go as far as a serious law suit granted the Wendys corporation applies resistance to me receiving my paycheck. I’m not trying to have that happen though, I just want my money that I earned busting my behind quarters trying to be the best employee I could. Contact me at (614) 226-XXXX

I am also one of the employees that along with Alex have yet to be paid when I was suppose to receive my final check by Christmas eve. it is now January 6 and 2 holidays have passed and because I have yet to receive my check I was not able to purchase Christmas gifts nor continue with my plans with my family for New Year. I’ve been calling the employee line for about 2 weeks now and every time I call they inform me that I will be contacted by franchise within 2 business days..I’ve called and given them my information at least 3 times now and yet no response. Along with Alex I would also like to just be compensated for the hours I worked. I would like an email back from corporate regarding this situation so that further steps does not need to be taken.

I went thru drive thru at wendys last night and on sign it said free frosty with meal in 2016 when i got to window they had to get manager because no one knew anything about it finally after 10 min waiting manager walks outside to look at sign he comes back in and says thats only if you have the wendys keychain tab which they were out of thats not what the sign said false advertisement. Also food was cold like it been sitting in window very unhappy customer will not be back

i was in line for a couple of baconaters with three value fries, i was told to pull up by some young kid, where i waited for 5 cars to go by, after waiting another 10 minutes i decided to beat on the windows because i thought they forgot, another 5 mins went by and i drove back to the side window where the same young kid was laughing at me, he put on his coat and left to go home o presume, i went across the the parking lot where another gentleman said hes been watching the whole thing, he gave me the phone in which i was going to report a theft, about that time another guy brought out my food, all fries was cold and i did not eat because i thought they messed with the food order. this happened at avon wendys in indiana at closing time on the 30th of december. i hope somebody pulls this tape. this was the worst experience ever at a resturant.

Just ate my last meal at Wendy’s, in the past 20 years,
most of the francises have gone downhill, no more quality in their process,
price has gotten higher, most times if you use the Drive-thru, you receive
a Burger that has been under the heat lamp for who knows how long,
These places are more for the all mighty $$ than they are about quality
or customer satisifaction.

I have never received my last pay from the week of Christmas we have been told we would be paid as of today and now being told by the 31 this is illegal not only that I have a busted hot water tank that I’m in desperate need of this money to get fixed I have been patient but no more I’m a hard work employee that does what I’m when I’m told and isn’t fair to be treated this way I don’t want to take legal action on a company that has treated me really good up to now but I will and it will be for more than a simple paycheck

Store manager Carlos Olives and assistant manager Victoria are having a secret love affair . Also Victoria hired her blood sister and her boyfriend . They don’t do nothing . Also they have their , I’m guessing three year old boy with them at work . He would be running around getting into stuff . Parents don’t supervise or anything . I am a very hard worker and can pull my weight and sum . Also district manager Monica was aware of all this . When I confronted her about all this she got upset . Before my shift on this day which was 12/20/15 I had informed G.M. Carlos Olivas that I had plans for after work . She acknowledged me saying ok . But when the end of my shift came , all three managers proceeded to give me a hard time . Cause of how aware I was to what is going on there . They made me stay a extra hour and fourth five minutes . Having my fiance and infant child waiting outside in the cold . When I continued to ask to be relieved cause i had plans for that day after my scheduled hours . They continued to ignore me . So I left in anger . I just feel that all this is just a small piece of what’s going on there . I have attempted to contact human resources here but line has been busy all day and night . I don’t think that this is how Wendy’s should manage their stores , by treating the few good hard workers the way they do just so they can be comfortable at the work place by making it like home . I demand for action to be taken on all these persons who insist on working like this . The store in question is located in Silver city N.M. 88061 . Wendy’s abuses their chickens, they keep them in cages so small they can’t turn or stand. How would you like to live your life like that. Guess money’s more important to Wendy’s rather than living, feeling beings. I will never go to Wendy’s.
