National Geographic, commonly known as Nat Geo, is the official magazine of the National Geographic Society. It has been published continuously since 1888.
The magazine was originally published for the founding members but now reaches more than 40 million subscribers, worldwide, each month.
The publication mainly covers the history of certain areas, remote corners of the world, ecological concerns, and scenery.
Full-color photographs began to be published in the mid-1930s and in conservative Muslim countries, pictures that might have scantily clad women or topless females in primitive tribal societies are often blacked out. Some complain that this destroys the artistic value of the photographs.
National Geographic Magazine maintains their corporate office in Washington, D.C.
