In 1949 John H. Williams, nephew of the founders, together with his brother Charles Williams and original founder David’s son David Williams Jr, bought the company from the founders.
In 1966 the company acquired the Great Lakes Pipe Line Company, which was then the largest petroleum products pipeline in the United States.
Today Williams Companies focuses on the gathering, storing, and processing of natural gas and natural gas liquids.
The company owns interests in or operates 15,000 miles of interstate gas pipelines and 10,000 miles of oil and gas gathering pipelines.
