Waters Corporation was founded in 1958 as Waters Associates by James Logan Waters in Framingham, Massachusetts.
In the early years, Waters was a research boutique that built one-of-a-kind instruments for various purposes. Early products included a balloon hydrometer, a nerve gas detector, process control refractometers, and a boiler feedwater flame photometer.
Today Waters Corporation manufactures high-performance liquid chromatography instruments used to separate and identify chemicals by scientists, engineers, and researchers. These products are used in food testing, drug development, and water and air quality testing.
Waters Corporation trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol WAT, is #998 in the Fortune 1000, has 6,200 employees, and had $2.02 billion in revenue in 2014.
