Vulcan Materials Company, 1980 Greystone Rd, Greene County, Tennessee is using a scorched earth policy to destroy nature, the environment, landscape, wildlife habitats, ecosystems, mountains, trees, nesting areas, aquifer, water table, ground water, air quality, air, noise, and water pollution. Are they being monitored, are they within their rights to do this, how far can they go, how deep can they go, and what benefits are the citizens of Greene County, Tennessee deriving from this environmental destruction?
We have always wondered how far and how deep Vulcan can go and how many years/decades will they be able to do what they are doing. They have become an eyesore as they are expanding and destroying everything in their path. We worry about will they destroy the aquifer that we get our well water for drinking from? How many acres do they own? Are they within their legal rights to do what they are doing? Is there a course of action that the citizens of Greene County, Tennessee can take to bring a stop to this scorched earth policy of environmental destruction that they are evidently being allowed to continue?
Thank you for your response; it paints a clearer picture. We hope they never drain the aquifer to where our wells for drinking water go dry. The horrible scenery should be addressed I suppose by the folks that have to look at it 24/7, we live further up the mountain. Take this as a suggestion/question: Do they have any future plans to re-beautify the areas they have devastated into uselessness? They could reforest by planting trees, I am sure Arbor Day Foundation would love to assist. If they leave rock pits (manmade lakes), they could stock them with fish. Would they consider turning it into a recreation/wildlife area?
Evidently the scorched earth environmental destruction policy Vulcan is pursuing is within their permit rights and has your blessing, and our major concerns and fears are destruction of the aquifer for our drinking water, the eyesore they are making worse as they expand their operations, wildlife habitats, nesting areas, trees, and erosion, so let’s approach this from a different angle: How can we MODIFY what they are doing? Aquifer Destruction: Can we stop aquifer destruction and keep them out of the water table? Reforestation: Can we make them reforest by replanting trees as they go along after they finish destroying an area? I am sure Arbor Day Foundation would love to help out. They should give back to the citizens of Greene County, Tennessee something beautiful to make up for what they have destroyed and are destroying to show appreciation for the fortune they have made and are making, and will make.
