The company changed its name in the 1960’s after Mr. Matsushita met with American dealers and manufacturers. The company began to make televisions under the Panasonic name.
Today, Panasonic is the 4th largest television manufacturer in the world. Panasonic has made numerous acquisitions over the years, perhaps the most notable being the Sanyo company in December of 2009.
In 2014, Panasonic announced that they were working together with, and providing funding, for Tesla Motors batteries. In June of 2016, Tesla announced that Panasonic would be the exclusive supplier of batteries for their Model 3 cars. The company also released a “transparent” television in 2016.
In February 2020, the company unveiled its OLED and LCD television models.
Also in February, Toyota and Panasonic announced that they were teaming up to prismatic batteries for electric cars.
The company maintains its corporate office for North America in Secaucus, New Jersey.
