Kingston Technology was founded in 1987 when there was a shortage of 1MB surface mount memory chips. An immigrant from Taiwan, John Tu, redesigned a SIMM card using older technology that solved the problem. Within two years, Kingston went from a two person operation, to being named on the Inc. 5000 list as the Fastest Growing Company in America.
Today, Kingston is an international company which designs, manufactures, and sells a wide range of memory solutions, including flash drives, USB drives, digital audio players, DRAM, solid state cards, and SIM cards of all different types, including TIFF, mini, micro, and SD cards.
Kingston had annual revenue in 2015 of $6.5 billion and employs more than 3,000 persons. Forbes lists Kingston as #54 on their list of “The 500 Largest Private Companies in the U.S”.
