Home Run Inn was founded in 1923 by Vincent and Mary Grittani. Originally a tavern, when a home run ball broke the window of the tavern during a game, the pair decided to rename the business Home Run Inn.
Today, Home Run Inn is a chain of Chicago style pizza restaurants. Mary Grittani developed the pizza recipe in 1940, which is still used today. The company began selling frozen pizzas in the area in the 1950’s and in the late 80’s, a frozen pizza manufacturing plant was constructed. The second plant was constructed in 1996, which has allowed the company to offer their frozen pizzas in 30 states.
As of 2015, the company has 8 locations, all in the greater Chicago area. Consumer Reports listed Home Run Inn pizza as the #1 frozen pizza in America in2013.
