Great Clips was originally founded as Super Clips in September of 1982 by Steve Lemmon and David Rubenzer, near the University of Minnesota. Lemmon and Rubenzer wanted to operate a no-frills type of hair cutting salon that would appeal to students and those who wanted a great haircut but did not want to pay for a fancy shop.
