Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CG&I) was founded in 1889 in Chicago with the merger of Chicago Bridge & Iron Company and Kansas City Bridge and Iron Company.
The new company was mostly a bridge design and construction company until it began to focus on the design and field construction of liquid storage tanks in the early nineteenth century. Examples are water storage tanks, above-ground tanks for petroleum and refined products, refinery process vessels and other steel structures.
Today CB&I provides design, technology, engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, maintenance, program management, and environmental services to global customers in energy infrastructure.
The company also has projects in nuclear, fossil, and renewable electric generating plants for the power industry, and process facilities for the oil and gas industry.
CB&I is traded publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol CBI, has 55,900 employees, and had $11.77 billion in revenue in 2013.
