Caldwell Fresh Foods was founded in 1949 in Los Angeles, California, by Jack Caldwell. Caldwell cleaned and cut up coleslaw, then put it in bags to be sold at the local market. Soon, the demand for pre-packaged foods grew and Caldwell had to relocate to a larger facility near the old Wholesale Produce Market.
Today, Caldwell Fresh Foods is one of the largest producers of pre-packed food items in the US. The company offers custom preparation, processing, and packing of fresh produce and salads, including vegetables for stir fry, precut and cleaned tomatoes and celery for retail sale, produce departments, and/or the restaurant trade. Certified organic vegetables are also available.
The company is still family owned and operated, with headquarters located in Maywood, California. In 2007, the company constructed a new, 15,000 square foot state-of-the-art processing facility.
