Becton, Dickinson and Company Corporate Office

Becton, Dickinson and Company, known as BD, was founded in 1897 by Maxwell W. Becton and Fairleigh S. Dickinson and its first product was a Luer-all-glass syringe.

In 1924 the company manufactured its first syringe designed for insulin injection.

In 1947 BD developed the Evacutainer- a device that drew blood through a needle into a test tube by vacuum.

The company grew through acquisition and international expansion. By the 1950’s BD was operating in Canada, Mexico, France, and Brazil.

Today Becton, Dickinson and Company is one of the top global manufacturers of syringes and other injection devices. The company also manufactures catheters, prefillable drug delivery systems, self-injection devices for diabetes patients, anesthesia trays, and sharps disposable systems, among others.

Becton, Dickinson and Company trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BDX, is a member of the S&P 500, is #312 in the Fortune 500, has 30,000 employees, and had $8.29 billion in revenue in 2013.
