Smithfield’s Chicken N Bar-B-Q, opened in 1964 in Smithfield, North Carolina, under the name of Smithfield’s. As the company’s menu increased, the words chicken, and later, Bar-B-Q were added. The company operates a small chain of franchised restaurants in the state of North Carolina.
The company currently has 36 locations, most of them franchised. The company’s specialty is chicken, but also offers shrimp, sandwiches, stew, and hot dogs, along with banana pudding, pecan pie, coleslaw and hush puppies.
In 2007, CEO and owner Gregory Moore was sued for sexual harassment by a former employee. The court found Mr. Moore guilty and ordered him to pay $1.15 million. Two other former employees have since come forward stating that they were also fired when they rejected Mr. Moore’s advances.
The company was also recently in the spotlight when a video surfaced in April of 2017, showing the employees singing “F the Police” while the police were dining in the restaurant. This video was later removed and the Raleigh Police Chief stated that it the incidence was false.
Despite the coronavirus, the company is doing well, opening its 40th location in December 2020.
As of May 2023, the company continues to do well, opening new locations in North Carolina.

Just finished an excellent shrimp plate at Smithfield’s on Hwy 42 East in Clayton,NC.Service and food very good. Professional and friendly. We had an accidental spill of ice tea that was immediately cleaned up. I must say I was very impressed with the fact that floor all around us was mopped up quickly and no old dirty mop water or smell!!! I also saw table being cleaned with disinfect wipes other than old wet dirty cloths!! I commented to Miss B that I was very pleased with our experience and service. I told her excellent sanitation measures! She had actually served us, cleaned floor and tables!!! I learned she is the General Manager too!!! Kudos to Miss B and her staff!!!! Excellent job!!!

need new manger for Smithfield and BBQ at WAKE FOREST NC the service is bad and long line at the drive thru window . INSIDE is not any better I placed my order at 11;55 at 12:20 I asked where was my order they couldn’t find it must have given it to you already. I replied the only thing you gave me was a gallon of tea I ordered the tailgate special with BBQ I know that I didn’t eat all that and still be standing here waiting for the food. WE must have given it to someone else we will check, 5 minutes later I asked if they had found my food reply was the are cooking your hush puppies be out shortly. AT 1235 a man walked back from outside and said I didn’t order all this , I only ordered 2 BBQ sandwich and a order of french fries . THEY checked his bag found out he had my order and his in the same bag. I called to speak with the manger he said we are doing the best we can I only have 5 employees working today , this is very bad business . I want be going back. I only got 6 pieces of chicken not 8 I paid for .

I can’t believe the the only decent Chicken and Barbecue in the town of Havelock,NC is going to close its doors for good. I’ve been a patronage at this restaurant since 1990. Also made purchase to fulfill an outreach to the community through our church weekly for the past 12 years. Very disappointing the this community to see another business fold up.

Dunn NC Location…7/27/21 They have a lot of new people working there mostly younger and don’t care I visit this location for a Shrimp Platter and a dozen of Hushpuppies I normally check my food before driving away but I didn’t because I’ve never had a problem with my food but tonight I got a kids meal it seemed it looked like the cook scooped a half handful of shrimp threw them in the deep fryer for 30 seconds and put them on a plate no batter no appearance of fried anywhere it looked steamed or whatever I was pissed I instantly took a picture and called the restaurant to speak to a manager I explained and she immediately responded with an apology and over apologizing she was very respectful she asked if I was coming back tonight or tomorrow I said tonight because it was dinner when I arrived all of the staff was looking in guilt because they knew they were wrong for what they served.. The cashier asked how did I order my plate and my shrimp trying to cover their wrong doing and put it on me but not today I’m not stupid I said what way is there to order a Fried Shrimp Platter I want you to t fried not steamed with no sighs of batter and it was a tiny handful of shrimp and that’s never happened but I’m sure they’ve done this so much and have gotten away with it that they think it’s okay ( they changed $11 for 2 tablespoons of shrimp) a toddler plate I asked that no one was to prepare my food that prepared it before because I didn’t want anyone disrespecting my food and the Manager prepared it herself (Black Shirt) (White Shirt) stood around chatting being friends with the kiddie staff walking around eating out of cups talking and laughing over customers food instead of preparing it yet I see how they hired any bullsh*t off the street now who ruins business and run a place down giving it a bad name I couldn’t find not one old face in the crowd all new without a care but I guess it is what it is especially in today’s world I won’t be patronizing with this place anymore once I don’t feel right about a place I can’t spend my money there now the Fuquay Varina location I go to haven’t had a problem yet and I’ve been a SC&BBQ customer most of my life at any location but the disappointment was real and I was very upset having to waste gas to go back and get something I should’ve gotten in the first place I was told that the GM doesn’t discipline the staff like they should and this is why they do what they want to do I hope this company goes bankrupt and out of business because of the stupidity they allow and the stupid disrespectful people they hire, I’m done with this but I wanted to share my experience!

We experienced EXCEPTIONAL service from Daniel at Smithfield in Rocky Mount, NC on February 17, 2021. He was extremely polite, efficient and diligent in taking and completing my order. I simply ordered two gallons of tea to go. Daniel took my order, completed it quickly while being VERY COURTEOUS.
When I had to return to the car shortly after paying for it, he even BROUGHT IT TO THE STORE’S FRONT DOOR for my convenience. I was truly impressed with the tremendous level of customer service he displayed! I can only hope he is duly recognized by management and wish him much success in his future work goals.
The Rocky Mount store also has an OUTSTANDING manager who I have watched serve customers on two other occasions. Having worked in the customer service arena for several years, I am attuned to and respect those folks who in turn respect the people they serve. This gentleman is- without question – a strong asset to the Smithfield corporation!

Something needs to be done about Laurinburg N.C 28352 Smithfield. Why is there only one person can purchase the skins. On 02/10/2021 time 9:23. I feel like your employees are making a profit off your product. This is the second time I have asked corporate to do something about that. I care don’t you? If the store doesn’t open until 10:00 a.m. why are their not skins available for everyone, I find that a problem. You have thieves employed at this location. Why not sell the barbeque the same way! Don’t think that it’s not happening because it is. Please do something about that, you all make enough money to hire someone to check into this. Thank you.

Are you all selling kids meals when u purchase a regular shrimp plate and did I actually pay $6 more for a extra side and got a couple good size shrimp and the rest was little pieces. REALLY!

Siler City location in N.C. This is not a big problem for me because the food is good and when I pick-up my order I usually has a 25 to 30 minutes window to enjoyed my lunch, but my complaint is only for your employees to make sure the order is correct.
Because a Dark chicken and shrimp platter should not be barbecue, and a chicken platter is not chicken tenders.
Thanks Jeff

I had a bad experience at the Nashville location. I when there ordered 8 piece chicken, baked beans and Brunswick stew. I got 2 stews. I had waited over 10 minutes for the beans. I asked, they said, they need to drop more chicken, mean while others behind me were leaving with chicken. That said, after about 30 minutes, they came out with no mask or gloves to check my order. Saying you got what you ordered. Last time I checked there are no potatoes in Brunswick stew. So I was called a liar over a qt of beans. LOL. Not funny

Fell onto my face on the concrete sidewalk outside of the Rocky Mount location. Manager was told and her response was “I’m not going out there, we’re too busy. They’re on their own.” Not the way customers should be treated.

1st bad experience at hwy. 42 location. Stood at counter waiting to place order, 2 employees walked by and neither acknowledged me. stood a while longer with no response. saw employee talking to whom I assume was manger near the front.I am still waiting. Finally I walked over and asked if anyone was taking orders. Manger person told clerk to wait on me. At no time did anyone apologize for this,no offers for refill. Manager came out and sat with customer while I finished my meal. As I was leaving manager followed same customer outside and had more conversation. Unlike this store.

We have been in Morehead City for 19 years and have enjoyed our dining at Smithfield’s Chicken and BBQ. Well, well, no more after today. The last several months we noticed it had changed and all the regular people were gone. They told me they were battering the chicken all wrong. Now, the batter is half inch thick and chicken, fries, barbeque, bun luke warm. Over all the food is terrible and the employees do not look very happy. New guys in white shirts, you really know how to ruin a really good thing. Did you ever hear the story about the round wheel?

Absolutely terrible customer service! I usually spend $35-$50 twice a week here even though my order is constantly wrong. Normally it’s small stuff like straws missing or sauce not in the bag. Today my order was $45 and with a 4 piece of chicken, they only put 3 in the box. I called and a man said that they were making my 4 piece again for my husband to pick up. He gets home and he has only one. I called back and a lady answered. Very rudely she told me that we could take the chicken we had back and they would remake the chicken. That’s not what was relayed to me during the first call! Why would I spend my gas to go back for a third time? I usually leave a tip every time and it’s always to go. Whether the drive thru or counter. I can eat chicken from Bojangles, KFC and Chick fil a. I don’t have to do business with this establishment. As a matter of fact, I pass a Smithfield Chicken and Bbq on my way home from work, I won’t be ordering from the Smithfield location again

I have placed a catering order for tomorrow 6-2-2018, for Georgetowne Subdivision. The order is coming from the Leland Location, and the phones are out once again. I have been working with Brett, and placed and paid for my order over the phone on 5-31-2018 in the amount of $1,069.04, placed on my personal credit card. Brett has told me twice he would send a receipt, so that I may be reimbursed by the Homeowners Association, still do not have the receipt he was to mail me.
I also have some questions about my order, but the phones are not working at the store. I have left a message on Brett’s cell phone, asking him to call, and letting him know the stores phone is out for the second day.
very frustrating to do business this way,
