Smithfield Foods is the largest hog producer and pork processor in the United States.

Smithfield Foods was founded by Joseph W. Luter and his son in 1936 as the Smithfield Packing Company in Virginia. The company grew by acquiring companies such as Farmland Foods of Kansas and Murphy Family Farms of North Carolina.

The company uses a vertical integration method of production that lets them control the entire line of production from conception to packing.

Smithfield Foods raises about 15 million pigs a year and processes 27 million animals, producing six billion pounds of pork per year.

The company’s products include fresh pork and processed products including deli meats and prepared foods. Products are marketed under the brand names Armour, Eckrich, Cook’s, Farmland, John Morrell, Patrick Cudahy, Gwaltney, and Healthy Ones.

In 2013 Smithfield Foods was acquired by China’s largest meat producer, Shuanghui International.

In April 2020, all meatpacking plants were closed for an undetermined period of time after at least 200 employees tested positive for the COVID-a9 virus.

I purchased a box of Smithfield sausage biscuits , I normally buy the chicken biscuits but rarely find them around , but now I regret buying the sausage biscuits because they have black mold on the bottom of the biscuits. I will be changing the brand from now on but thought you would want to know before someone gets sick from them. I have pictures and have saved the products in my freezer if you care at all to see them .
You have always had the best frozen biscuits and I hate to change but I can’t afford to buy moldy biscuits and no i didn’t share this yet, but if I need to i will share my problem and my pictures.
    Thanks for your time

I bought a ham a wal- marts that weight a little over 10 pounds and only got amount 3 pounds or less of meat from it the rest was skin and fat and bone . I was very disappointed in the ham .i had bought other hams before and they were very good that is why I chose the smithfield ham for my thanksgiving dinner . I will not make that mistake again . My guess were very disappointed also . To much fat ,bone and skin for the money.

    Sir or Madame:

I am so disappointed in your Smithfield Pork Chitterlings in the red bucket. This product was so awful I had to throw out the entire bucket and this is the second time this has happened in the past year. I love your chitterlings so much I had to give you another chance. The bucket was only 1/2 full of chitterlings and 1/2 full of water. After cleaning, only 25% of the chitterlings remained. After cooking, they few that were left tasted like some sort of cleaning product. After tasting one bite, I immediately felt nauseous. This was a complete waste of money, 7.97 and I would like my money back. I spent money, time in cleaning and preparing this product and it was all for nothing for the second time. Your motto is “Good food. responsibly.”
