Shaw Industries was founded in 1946 by Clarence Shaw. The original name of the company was Star Dye Company. In 1967, one of Clarence Shaw’s sons, J.C., acquired Philidelphia Carpet Company,which sent the company off in a new direction, making carpets and other types of flooring.
Today, Shaw Industries, sometimes called Shaw Flooring or Shaw Floors, is the largest carpet manufacturer in the world, with more than $4 billion in annual sales and approximately 23,000 employees. The company operates as a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, who acquired the company in 2001.
Shaw Industries headquarters are located in Dalton, Georgia. In addition to carpet, Shaw Industries also sells hardwood floors, vinyl, laminate, and other types of flooring.
