Sabre Holdings Corporation has its roots in 1953 when C.R. Smith, then president of American Airlines, met IBM salesman Blair Smith, and they put together the concept of a Semi-Automatic Business Research (SABRE). Sabre Corporation was then founded in 1960 by American Airlines.
The first Sabre system consisted of two IBM mainframe computers and processed 84,000 calls each day.
