Tucker’s Restaurant Corporate Office

Erica and Hale Cole Tucker founded Tucker’s restaurant in 2014. This pair of entrepreneurs wanted to serve good food to great people.

The Tucker’s believe that employees aren’t workers, but they refer to them as tribe members and tribe leaders.

From a single location, Tucker’s has grown to 6 restaurants around the state, with more in the works.

Tucker’s serves breakfast and lunch only, often to packed crowds. While many restaurants are having difficulty finding and retaining staff, Tucker’s has not found this to be an issue.

The restaurant chain is known for offering free meals to veterans on their day, along with their wives.

In 2019, Hale and Erica Tucker were awarded the Small Business Person of the Year.

George Webb Restaurants Corporate Office

George Webb founded his first lunch counter on the east side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The entire family worked at the business, with George, his wife Evelyn, and their three sons, Jim, Tom and Bob, all performing various tasks in the restaurant.

George’s son Jim suggested to his father that he should take over one of the restaurant locations in 1953. George agreed, making Jim’s location the first franchise. Other franchises followed in 1957.

Today, the company has 31 locations, all of them in Wisconsin.

The company is famous for serving its entire menu any time of the day or night. George Webb is also known for having two clocks in each location. Stories vary as to why this is with some people saying that Webb installed one clock at an angle so those who were waiting on the subway could see the time. Others say that, at one time, being open 24 hours a day was illegal so Webb set these two clocks side by side, with one of them running one minute slower than the other.

In February 2022, a restaurant employee was shot in the face by 4 women who were angry over a food order.

Because of George Webb’s policy of staying open 24 hours a day, combined with the restaurants’ reasonably low prices on food and drink, the chain has become a notorious refuge for homeless adults and juveniles. George Webb Restaurants have displayed a “No Loitering” sign in every restaurant and placed a two-dollar minimum per person and a 20-minute time limit for a visit, although this rule is not strictly enforced.

Bellacino’s Pizza & Grinders Corporate Office

Joe Mancino’s grandparents used to sell large subway sandwiches to the sailors in port during WWI. The Mancino’s eventually opened a location where they could make their own pizzas and sandwiches, which came to be called grinders.

Today, the company operates a franchise. There are currently more than 70 Bellacino’s pizza restaurants around the country.

All Bellacino’s recipes for pizza and grinders were established by Samual Mancino, Sr., in the 1950s.

Bellacino’s states that they bake their pizza dough and bread for the grinders fresh every morning.

Some locations are adding outdoor dining areas to deal with the aftermath of Covid and improve the overall dining experience.

New locations are still opening, despite the problems Covid has caused.

Phillip Nevins wanted to open a genuine smoked BBQ restaurant. The first location was in Stephenville, Texas.

When it opened in 2003, Hard Eight BBQ cooked Hill Country-style of barbecue, in which mesquite (or sometimes oak) is burned down to coals that are then shoveled into a pit directly below the meat.

Wood smoke doesn’t bathe the meat, however, they use the indirect-heat method; rather, fat drips off of the meat directly onto the coals, vaporizing the liquid and creating a flavorful smoke of its own.

Today, Hard Eight BBQ has 6 locations around the state of Texas. It is not uncommon to wait more than an hour to be seated, the restaurants have become that popular.

The company specializes in all types of BBQ meat, including ribs, chicken, brisket, pork chops, and rib-eye steaks.

In April 2022, Hard Eight BBQ was accused of failing to pay its staff the tips and overtime wages. The US Department of Labor charged the company with returning $867,257 to its 910 employees.

Hard Eight BBQ states that this was merely an unintentional misunderstanding of Texas labor laws.

The company also stated that it was having a difficult time finding and retaining workers, which may have resulted in a partial mixup of tips paid.

Tudor’s Biscuit World was the original idea and concept of Bill and Mae Tudor and their son John Tudor. The first location was opened in 1980 in Charleston, West Virginia.

The company is a franchised restaurant chain that offers freshly baked biscuits in a variety of ways. Some of Tudor’s locations are shared with Gino’s East Pizza chain.

There are currently 70 franchised locations, mainly in West Virginia, but also in Florida, Kentucky, and Ohio.

In late 2021, some locations in West Virginia began organizing unions in hopes of better wages. The company is pushing back against unionization, saying it offered higher than minimum wages.

In early 2022, the union push was given a NO vote and a few employees stated that they were fired for voting yes.

In August 2023, the company gave a donation of more than $42,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
