Morton’s SteakHouse

Morton’s SteakHouse was founded by two friends and co-workers Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch. Fritsch made a hamburger for Morton, who said it was the best burger ever. The pair decided to leave their jobs at the Playboy Club in Montreal and opened their own restaurant, originally named Morton’s of Chicago, in Chicago, Illinois, in 1978.

Today, Morton’s SteakHouse is a subsidiary of Landry’s, Inc. The company has 70 locations, including the original location at the Newbury Plaza in Chicago, in several states, as well as a few international locations. Morton’s is well known as an upscale steak restaurant that offers private rooms and banquet dining.

In October 2021, the company opened a location in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The company often hosts ESPN’s Lunch with a Legend series, using various locations. When Landry’s acquired Morton’s SteakHouse in 2012, company headquarters were moved to Houston, Texas.

Cafe Toscano was founded in Aurora, Ohio, in 2007. The company operates a mid-sized, upscale Italian food restaurant. The restaurant was located a few miles from another Italian restaurant, Bella Donna, which had been in business for nearly 20 years. Competition was stiff. The owner of Bella Donna met with Cafe Toscano owners, who decided that a partnership was a better way to work out their differences, rather than each trying to force the other out of business.

Cafe Toscano is a small to mid-sized restaurant (55 seats) that is more upscale than Bella Donna, which is more of a family restaurant. Cafe Toscano offers a wine selection, along with pasta dishes, soups, seafood, pizza and more.  The restaurant is now open for both lunch and dinner, 7 days a week.

The company has plans to open a larger, more casual restaurant, which will seat 120, near the original location. At this time, headquarters for both restaurants remain in Aurora, Ohio.

YoFresh Yogurt Cafe was founded in 2009 by current owner and CEO Christopher Gregoris. The company operates a chain of franchised frozen yogurt shops.

The company has seen tremendous growth, starting off with zero stores and only a franchising concept, to more than 25 locations by the end of 2012. By offering organic, fat free yogurt and more than 50 toppings each day, the company tries to be different than other frozen yogurt restaurants. To increase sales, many locations offer other items, including ice cream and smoothies.

YoFresh Yogurt Cafe has come under fire recently from franchises who claim that the company, which has no company owned stores, has no real interest in their product or their franchises, who seldom receive advice or consultations on their current business. Headquarters for the company remain in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mr. Kahlon has been working in Indian restaurants since he was 13, even though he doesn’t really cook much. His parents own a restaurant in Dever, so Kahlon decided not to be in competition with his parents’ restaurant, so he chose Aurora, rather than Denver. The restaurant was 2 years in the making, as Kahlon wanted to avoid products that used artificial colors or flavors. The restaurant is also well known for being gluten free.

While Monsoon Cuisine of India does not offer a buffet, like many Indian restaurants, it does offer take out, delivery, as well as taking reservations. Beer and wine are served, but no hard liquor. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with extended hours on Friday and Saturday.

After being in operation for 15 years, Stout decided to retire. He found retirement incredibly boring and reopened his restaurant, same name, two years later. The restaurant is a combination deli/restaurant. Food or plates can be ordered to go, or they can be eaten at the restaurant. Once open only for breakfast and lunch, the new location is now also open for dinner orders.

Butler’s Market is best known for its “make your own” menu, where customers can order just about anything they like, as long as the ingredients are in the kitchen. Company headquarters remain in Rumson, New Jersey.
