Quaker Steak and Lube was founded in 1974 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, by George Warren and Gary Meszaros. The original restaurant location was in an abandoned gas station. To save some cash, the pair used old license plates, old cars, and other mechanical tools as a decoration. The name is also a play on the abandoned gas station. Quaker Steak and Lube still uses old muscle cars as decorations and as a theme for their restaurants.
Today, the company has more than 50 locations in 14 states, and one in Ontario, Canada. Originally a “cook it yourself” steak house, the company is now known more for chicken wings and the wide assortment of sauces to season them.
In late 2015, the company was purchased by TravelCenters of America, who plan to open more locations at their truck stops.

We ordered our food from the Florence, KY store through Grub hub! We ordered a full rack of ribs with 2 sides and a half rack of ribs with gear tenders and 2 sides. The full order of ribs was delivered with half an order of ribs and the half order of ribs was missing a side. We called the restaurant and ask if they could give us a credit on our next order since we paid for a full order of ribs and got a half order. The manager, Gordon Trammel, refused saying that the Grub hub driver must have taken it because his people do not make mistakes. He indicated that this happens with Grub hub orders all the time and said we should contact them. My husband did ask if that is the case why do you continue to use Grub hub and got no response. We have ordered from other restaurants in the area and when this happens they will usually give us a credit on our next order. This would be considered good customer service. Apparently, Quaker Stake doesn’t care about customer service. We have been customers of this restaurant since it opened including their bike nights. Needless to say, we will no longer be patrons of the restaurant.

My grandson and nephew which are very mannerable boys used to be employees of QS&L . They went up there tonight to see the band and for bike night and were told they haf to leave because they quit there jobs. I dint feel that was very faur or prifessional.

My wife and I used to go to Quaker Steak and lube on the half price rib night.. it will be no longer and i really hope many other patrons feel the same way… As we came in a car and it had 4 wheels, we were frowned upon by QS&L. We have a disabled sticker on the car but all parking is reserved for bikies.. So that means we have to be a hells angel to obtain entrance so to speak. We are both retired and are both in our 60’s… If we arrived on a bike, that would be different…We would have been treated like royalty and had a red carpet rolled out for us. I know that is going a bit far but i want others that read this to get the full impression i am trying to make…it seems like the money that families with only a car are sneered or frowned upon at quaker steak and lube so i guess there has to be other places or alternatives…. On top of that, their full rack of ribs is $17.99 where as the TGIF fridays price is $12.99 YES PEOPLE…YOU READ IT CORRECTLY…I saw it advertised on TV last night and when the $12.99 came up…I was so angry. The same item, the same sort of food for just over 40% more money at Quaker steak and lube… QS&L will not be getting my business in the future as Fridays is a lot cheaper…Imagine you all earnt 40% interest in the bank on your savings…That is what it comes to if you want to take it all into proper perspective and look at it in that fashion..if you all disbelieve me, then ask your bank manager where you can get 40% intrest on your money!!!… I do not blame the staff or managers of Quaker Sreak but i blame head office and their suits. I do not have shares in TGIF fridays nor am i an employee there but i know when i am being taken for a ride or simply charged way too much…. The rating i want to give QS&L is not on the chart or scale as the grading is so low. This is in my opinon due to the 2 experiences i have had….Some person is going to read this from head office and blow me off so to speak but when other patrons read it, they may think twice and lean towards TGIF. I have just wanted to air my thoughts and opinion of this so called bike night and have the suits in head office ( if they can do so ) read it. I now believe the half price rib night is no longer …I really hope others see this and avoid going to QS&L as the way your business treats non bikies is awful….If i can copy and paste this to other spots for others to read, i would do it …Have a lovely day

Went to the Quaker Steak on Canel Rd last Wednesday for bike night, went inside to eat dinner as normal and then came home and found that our server swipe my bank card twice. Called up there same night talked to manager Joe who took all my info and told me he would look into it and give me a call back by Friday. Friday no call not even by Sunday so called back up there talked to another manager mark I believe his name was who said that he would follow up with Joe and see where he is with looking into it and would give me a call, well here it is Thursday and still no call nor has my money been refunded. The server should tell the customer when this happen. Very poor service and not a happy customer.

Yeah, they like to do that.. Tell you they will contact you and then never do.. The whole company is extremely unprofessional, uneducated, and the line cooks work in hazardous conditions. I honestly don’t know how they are still conducting business.. Nothing but problems from them. They mess up and expect people to just deal with it.. I encourage everyone to not eat there.. But that’s just me, I have a great source so.. You don’t have to take my advice.

I was so disgusted with our local Steak and Lube.@ Address: 6245 Ameriplex Dr, Portage, IN 46368……..EVEN MC DONALD’S WILL ASK, “do you want us to remake your food” and more often than not will refund your money when it’s all wrong, sloppy, and put on dirty dishes. Your manager didn’t care one bit! No offer to remake, refund or apology. It gets pretty bad when McDonalds beats Steak and Lube.
And I haven’t even mentioned how Steak and Lube Corp. tried to help….which was….”Don’t call me …we won’t call you”
Go ahead and try to reach someone at Corp/Complaint dept. Not going to happen! I can see why you guys are losing business. It was a Saturday night and your place was EMPTY … What does that say to you?

We entered you Valley View location around 7:30 and was told there would be a 25 minute wait. You bar area to the right had 8 open tables. The bar area to the left had 4 open tables and since I am a half full type of girl, you parking lot was half full on a Sunday nite. I asked with the open tables why is there a 25 minute wait. Was advised by the young blond host its because they had too many servers call off and they didn’t have enough servers. We left the restaurant and I couldn’t accept this story. I called in to the restaurant wand advised there was no waiting. When I communicated our story the gals asked me to hold a moment to investigate and promised she would be right back with me. A gentleman identified him self as one of the managers and I relayed our experience. His response now explains the lack of customer service. He stated it is common in the restaurant business to stagger seating so we would not be seated and then wait 20 minutes for our drink order to be taken he also advised they had a large number of call offs today. I thanked him and advised we would no longer patronize this locatio which we have visited since its opening some years ago.
I manage a medical practice with many employees and the customer experience is. What drives business. I assume sales at this location are no longer important as they are willing to drive their customers to other local businesses. Not impressed. I hope this email reaches you CEO Or COO and they take a drive to Cleveland. Its not a far drive and we Ohioians are friendly. Slyman’s Deli received our business and I would recomend the corned beef.

Hello Quaker Steak & Lube,
I have a strange question, but hopefully you can provide me with the information. I have visited several of your locations…and enjoyed my meals, but the closest one to me in Concord, North Carolina closed.
I love your food, but also love your toothpicks! Can you provide me with the vendor that supplies your stores? I would be happy to buy from you also. I have very tight teeth, and these are the best toothpicks I have used!!
I appreciate any information you can provide! I ask my team-mates at work to bring them back to me as their eat at Quaker Steak & Lube during their travels.
Thank you!

On Sunday Nov. 27, at 6:15 pm, we visited the South Ridge Quaker in Charleston, WV. When my wife, son, and myself entered the restaurant, we was not greeted by the hostess, all she would say was how many and was very rude. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all. She walked us to our table and slammed the menus down and walked away, never said a word. Then our waiter shows up and asked for our drink order, my 11 yr old son asked him a question and he rudely interrupted our son and snapped at him and said he was going to get our drink order then he could ask his question. We was floored at the amount of rudeness and how we was being treated so poorly for no reason, we just decided to leave. As we was leaving, the manager spoke to us and I told him how awful we was treated by the hostess. All he said was sorry and I will take care of her. As we was walking out the door, the manager was laughing and carrying on with the hostess that was so rude to us. We drove over an hour to specially eat at Quaker steak and lube, and we ended up having to settle for food we could have gotten back home. I’ve been in restaurant management for several yrs and I would never have allowed a customer to be treated the way we was treated at your restaurant.

I feel compelled to write about my experience with your Johnstown PA facility. We took our son out for his 14th birthday dinner and it was far from a good experience! Upon arriving, the facility was not busy and it was all you can eat wings for $9.99. We ordered our first order of wings and all was well. Upon ordering our second order is where it all went South. We waited almost one full hour with no refill on our drinks and no more food was brought to us. After giving the benefit of the doubt and asking our waitress 3 times where our food was we asked for a manager to finalize our bill and get out of there to take our son someone else for his birthday dinner. You have lost a customer and i hope you retrain your facility owners how to run a business! Feel free to email or contact me. Weezie1115 at gmail.com – Wendy Klucker-Johnstown PA 15902

I have never felt blatantly discriminated against because of my biracial children, until today.
Upon arriving to Quaker Steak and Lube in Austintown, OH, my two sons and I were eventually “greeted” after being overlooked for quite some time by the door. The hostess never said hello or shared even a half of a smile like she did to the other patrons entering the establishment. All she said was “how many?” as if she were annoyed by our presence. I placed my hands on my children’s shoulders and replied “three”. Without looking around for a table, or glancing at the seating diagram directly in front of her, she said “it’s gonna be minute”. I smiled and said “no problem”. The hostess then said “you can eat outside, it’s open out there”. I said no thank you, and she grabbed three menus and had us follow her. Just to paint a picture, today is a chilly and gloomy day with impending rain looming. No sane person would have chosen to sat outside.
We were seated, and I felt better. This didn’t last long because the second encounter I had was with our server, who made no attempt to make us feel welcomed either. After what took over 15 minutes to get our drinks, we were able to place our order. My children, who are very well mannered, ordered cheeseburgers. I asked her to please add bacon to their burgers. With an eye roll, she jotted down my request. I ordered my food and requested a side salad as one of my sides. The server said “you know that’s extra”, in a tone I can’t even describe. I said that was perfectly fine. Almost 40 minutes later, with empty glasses around the table, the manager delivered our food. I was hoping to have seen our server prior to our food arriving so we could have a drink with our meals. He asked if there was anything else we needed and I requested refills for everyone. He said he would let our server know. Finally she was back with my water, my meal almost was almost gone. I asked her if she could please get my children a refill. She said ok and left. My boys both noticed their burgers didn’t have bacon. I told them mistakes happen, and to just eat them as they were. I was going to mention it to the server, for billing purposes. I never had a chance to let her know because even though I saw her come out and look in our direction more than once, she never came back with the refills for my kids or to check on us.
Finally I requested to speak to the manager. When he approached the table, I could tell he did not feel like speaking to me. He said “what’s the problem?”. I said “sir, in no way am I trying to be rude, but the service today has been subpar”. I explained all that had happened so far, and he said “I will just take their food off” and walked away. I was not looking for a reduction in my bill, because I was more than able to pay for our food. I was hoping to see a genuine concern from him based on the the way we were mistreated multiple times by his staff. He came back with our bill and I was tried to explain once more that I was not trying to be rude or confrontational, but he clearly did not want to hear it. He acted as though the actions of his server were justified because he discounted my total. I didn’t even get the chance to explain what happened with the hostess before he walked away.
Again, this felt like blatant discrimination. It should not take an act of congress to have my two (black) SONS treated with the same respect as the table full of white kids across from us. I am disgusted and will never return to this establishment or any of their locations for that matter.
Quaker Steak and Lube seriously needs some training in not only hospitality, but would greatly benefit from some EEO and discrimination courses as well.
