Zales was founded in 1924 when brothers Morris and William Zale and Ben Lipshy opened a jewelry store in Wichita Falls, Texas.  Zales revolutionized the jewelry industry by offering payment plans that made jewelry affordable for everyone.

History

By 1942, there were 12 stores in Texas and Oklahoma.

In 1957, the company opened its first shopping mall location.

In 1958, the company went public.

In 1998, the company began selling jewelry online at zales.com.  zales 2

In 2000, the company acquired Piercing Pagoda and Peoples Jewellers of Canada.

In 2014, Signet Jewelers acquired Zales, which will continue under the Zales name and operate as a subsidiary. This sale created a company worth $6.2 billion.

Today, Zales operates over 1750 locations in the US and Canada.  These stores operate under several brands, including Zales, Gordon’s Jewelers, Piercing Pagoda, Zales Outlet, Kay Jewelers, and Peoples Jewellers.

In 2013, the company had $1.888 billion in revenue.

In January 2017, Zales announced it would close many of its mall stores when the leases expire due to lackluster sales. zales 3

Aeropostale Corporate Office

Aeropostale was the brainchild of the R.H. Macy Co. and was created in the early 1980s.  The original plan was a clothing store targeted to 20 somethings.

The first mall based Aeropostale, or Aero for short, was opened in 1987.  By then, the target demographic had changed to 14 to 17 year old girls.

In 1995, Macy’s sold Aeropostale to Bear Sterns Merchant Banking division.

History

In 2002, the company went public.

In 2009, the company launched P.S. from Aeropostale.  The P.S. line is targeted towards 7-12 year olds.  The company added merchandise for 5 and 6 year olds in 2011.

Today, the company operates over 1,000 stores in the US and Canada.  Most locations are located in shopping malls.  In addition, the company licenses their brand to other operators in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.  There are currently 27 international locations.

In September of 2016, the company filed for bankruptcy protection. Aeropostale is expected to come out of bankruptcy in 2017 with only 229 locations. The company was acquired by Simon Property Group and General Growth Properties.

Procter and Gamble Corporate Office

Procter & Gamble was founded in 1837 when William Procter and James Gamble went into business together due to their father-in-laws suggestion.  The company originally produced soap and candles.

In the 1880s, Ivory soap was launched.

In 1911, Crisco was introduced.

History

In 1930, the company acquired Thomas Hedley Co.

In 1946, Tide was launched and Prell was introduced a year later.

In 1955, the company began to sell Crest, the first flouride toothpaste.

In 1957, the company acquired Charmin Paper Mills and entered the toilet paper business.

In 1961, the company released Pampers which went on to become the first successful disposable diaper.

Other acquisitions included Folgers Coffee, Old Spice, Pepto Bismol and Iams.

Today, P&G has over 50 brands.  Almost half of those brands have at least $1 billion in annual sales.

IBM can trace its roots back to 1911 when Charles Ranlett Flint merged 3 separate technology companies to form the Computing Tabulating Recording Company (CTR).

In 1924, the company was renamed to International Business Machines Corporation or IBM for short.

In 1952, Thomas J. Watson, Jr. succeeded his father as CEO of IBM.

History

In 1956, a computer was programmed to play checkers and learn from previous games.  This is the first example of artificial intelligence.

In 1963, IBM headquarters was moved from NYC to Armonk, NY where it remains today.

In 1974, IBM engineer George Laurer developed the Universal Product Code or UPC system.

In 2005, IBM sold its personal computer business to Lenovo.

Today, IBM is one of the largest technology and consulting companies worldwide.  The company has received the most accepted patents annually for the past 20 years.

Monster.com began in 1994 when Jeff Taylor created a searchable jobs database called The Monster Board.  The database was initially filled with jobs from newspaper ads.

Adion (Taylor’s holding company) was acquired by TMP.  TMP goes public in 1996.

In 1999, after merging with Online Career Center, the company becomes Monster.com.  The company advertises in a Super Bowl commercial.

History

In 2000, the company acquires JOBTRAK.  Monstermoving.com is launched the same year.

In 2002, the company purchases the domain Jobs.com.

In 2005, CEO Jeff Taylor leaves Monster to start Eons.com.

In 2007, Monster launches mobile job search.

In 2008, Trovix is acquired.

In 2010, Monster acquires HotJobs from Yahoo

Today, Monster is the largest job search engine in the world.
