Dodge was founded by the Dodge brothers in 1900 as a supplier of parts for Detroit-based automobile manufacturers.

The Dodge brothers died suddenly in 1920, and in 1925 the company was sold to Dillon, Read, and Company. It was sold again to Chrysler in 1928.

During the oil crisis of 1973, the Dodge line came to be seen as inefficient and had to be downsized along with other Chrysler brands.

History

Over the past decades, Dodge has become well known for their trucks, including the popular Dodge Ram.

The new Dodge Challenger Hellcat, capable of speeds in the 200 MPH range, is causing some people to question if these cars should be banned.

Today Dodge vehicles are available all over the world, with big markets in Argentina, Asia, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and Europe.

Sears, Roebuck and Company started National Tire and Battery (NTB) in 1997 by combining two of its Tire Brands: Tire America and National Tire Warehouse.

History

In 2003 NTB had 226 stores, $425 million in revenue, and $60 million in profit.

The Memphis based TBC Corporation bought the brand in 2003 for $260 million. The deal did not involve the approximately 800 Sears Auto Centers that were adjacent to Sears department stores.

In 2005 TBC was bought by Sumimoto Corporation of America and ended its 22-year stint as a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ.

In 2017, Big O Tire franchisor Mark Rhee purchased 44 NTB locations in Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri.

In 2018, Michelin North America and Sumitomo Corporation of Americas combined their respective North American tire distribution and related service operations in a 50–50 joint venture agreement, creating National Tire Wholesale.

Hyundai was founded by Chung Ju-Yung as a construction firm in 1947 in South Korea and initially worked in the markets of Vietnam, Guam, and Thailand.

Hyundai started to work in automobile manufacturing in 1967 under the name Hyundai Motor Company and performed ship construction under the name Hyundai Heavy Industries. In 1968, the company’s first car model, the Cortina, was released with help from Ford.

History

The company entered the semiconductor industry in 1983 under the name Hyundai Electronics.

In 1999, Hyundai announced a major restructuring, which involved a plan to break up the different business sectors into five different companies by 2003.

Today, most of the former subsidiaries of Hyundai, including Hyundai Motor Company, are not connected with the Hyundai Group, however, most of them are run by relatives of the founder, Chung Ju-Yung.

Hyundai Motor Company is the eighth largest automobile manufacturer in the world, with 3.6 million vehicles sold annually.

In 2004, Hyundai was ranked second in “initial quality” in a survey/study by J.D. Power and Associates. Hyundai is now one of the top 100 most valuable brands worldwide. The company has invested in manufacturing plants in North America, India, the Czech Republic, Russia, China, and Turkey, as well as several research and development centers in Europe, Asia, and the USA.

In early 2012, the Hyundai Elantra was named the North American Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show. Hyundai has sold more than 200,000 cars since the model’s redesigned debut in 2012.

According to Forbes, the company is driving customers to their stores with a program called Shopper Assurance, which offers things like a free, no questions asked, 3-day return policy on every new vehicle.

The 2022 Santa Cruz pickup truck by Hyundai receibed Best Truck of the Year award by the Washington Automotive Press Association in October 2021.

CarsDirect states that Hyundai is a good car brand to buy and that the cars are safer than most.

Company headquarters in North America are located in Fountain Valley, California. Hyundai employs more than 118,000 people around the world.

Richard Forman started Forman Mills in 1977 with an $80 loan from his father.

He began to sell sportswear and sweats in a local flea markets on the weekends with this money.

Four years later, in 1981, he opened his first store in Philadelphia.

History

In 1985 Forman opened his first superstore in a warehouse in Philadelphia. This new type of store was called the Forman Mills Clothing Factory Warehouse and had 16,000 square feet of retail space.

From 1989 to the present, the chain has grown to include stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, and Michigan.

Virgin Mobile USA is a prepaid wireless service in the United States and Puerto Rico and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sprint Corporation.

Virgin Mobile offers prepaid voice and messaging services.

History

Virgin Mobile was founded in 2001 by a joint venture of Virgin Group, Sprint Corporation, and Singapore Telecommunications, Ltd. and started operations in 2002.

In 2009, Sprint Corporation bought out the other joint venture partners and became the sole owner of Virgin Mobile. They license rights to use the Virgin Mobile brand name from Virgin Media, which is based in the U.K.

They work with 40,000 retail locations and provide service to 6 million customers.

The company moved its headquarters location from New Jersey to Kansas City, Missouri, in 2017, adding 50 jobs to the area.
