Siemens is a German multinational engineering and electronics company with worldwide headquarters in Munich and Berlin.

Siemens was founded as Siemens and Halske (S&H) by Werner von Siemens in 1847. Siemens’ invention was based on the telegraph and used a needle to point to the sequence of letters, instead of using Morse code. The next year the company built the first telegraph line in India.

By 1907 S&H had almost 35,000 employees and was the seventh-largest company in the German empire.

History

In the 1950’s Siemens started to manufacture computers, semiconductors, washing machines, and pacemakers.

In 1987 Siemens entered the nuclear power business.

In 1997 Siemens Financial Services (SFS) was founded.

Today Siemens is organized into five main divisions: Industry, Energy, Healthcare, Infrastructure & Cities, and Siemens Financial Services. Siemens and its subsidiaries employ 360,000 people across 190 countries. Siemens had $107 billion in revenue in 2012.

Daimler Trucks North America is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, a German multinational automotive corporation with worldwide headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany.

Daimler AG has its roots in the founding of two companies: Benz & Companies by Carl Benz in 1883 and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft by Gottlieb Daimler in 1890. Benz and Daimler, who never met personally, simultaneously developed the world’s first automobiles.

Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach were the first to fit a gas engine to a two-wheeler, called a “riding car” in 1885. He later presented the first four-wheeled vehicle, which he called the motor carriage.

Both Daimler and Benz began to market their vehicles internationally by the end of the 19th century.

McKesson Corporation is an American pharmaceutical distributor with worldwide headquarters in California.

McKesson was founded in 1833 as Olcott & McKesson as a botanical drug importer and wholesaler.

The company is famous for one of the biggest accounting scandals in history, the McKesson & Robins scandal, which led to major changes in auditing and securities regulations after 1938 when it was exposed. After the scandal, the company began to focus more on medical technology and move away from pharmaceuticals.

Today McKesson distributes health care systems, medical supplies and pharmaceutical products. McKesson also provides extensive network infrastructure for the health care industry. McKesson operates in North America, Australia, Ireland, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

GDF Suez S.A. is a French multinational company with worldwide headquarters in Paris that operates in electric generation and distribution, natural gas, and renewable energy. GDF Suez is the product of the 2006 merger of Suez and Gaz de France.

Suez was founded in 1922 by King William of the Netherlands and is one of the oldest continually existing multinational corporations in the world. At the time of the merger, Suez had annual revenue of $41.5 billion.

Gaz de France was founded in 1946 by the French government. The government held an 80% stake in the company until the merger. Gaz de France had revenue of $22.4 billion in 2005.

History

In 2006 the merger of water supply and treatment, waste management, and energy company Suez with power company Gaz de France was announced, though it took until late in 2007 for the companies to agree on terms.

GDF Suez became the world’s second-largest utility company based on revenues. In 2009 GDF Suez placed sixth on the list of Businessweek ranking of the World’s Best Companies, the highest placed European firm. Today GDF Suez has 236,000 worldwide employees and had $90.7 billion in revenue in 2011.
