Back in the late 1950s, Jeg Coughlin found that there was no store and no catalog where a person could order high-performance or racing car parts.

Coughlin founded Jegs Automotive in a small garage in downtown Columbus, Ohio, in 1960.

Today, Jegs is the second-largest automotive parts mail-order business in the US. The company sells automotive parts, accessories, aftermarket accessories, tools, and race apparel.

History

The company remains family owned and operated. Jeg Coughlin’s four sons bought the business from their father and each son owns a different department to maximize effectiveness.

In February 2022, private equity firm Greenbriar Group acquired a majority stake in Jegs. The four sons maintain a minority share.

With seven NHRA World Championships, sixteen Division Championships, and over 100 victories at the national, divisional, and local levels, Team JEGS is among the most accomplished racing entities in the 60-year history of organized drag racing.

In May 2022, former Walmart eCommerce director, Brian Rowland, was named CEO of Jegs.

King and Spalding, frequently called K&S, goes all the way back to 1885 when two lawyers, Alexander King and Jack Spalding, opened their own law office in Atlanta, Georgia.

From the single Atlanta office, the company is now an international business, with offices in Brussels, Dubai, Paris, Singapore, Tokyo, and more.

The company manages the properties and legal concerns for many wealthy individuals, including the Trump real estate empire.

History

On the “Vault Law 100” list of the most prestigious law firms in the United States, King & Spalding was ranked #39 for 2022, moving up from #43 in 2019.

In the immediate aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, King & Spalding was sharply criticized for choosing to represent the Trump campaign in a lawsuit in North Carolina seeking to block the state from implementing a rule allowing an extension for the receipt of a mail-in ballot.

Representation was unnecessary since Trump went on to win in North Carolina.

King and Spalding has recently added well-known lawyers to its various offices, including Oliver Goldstein to the Paris branch and a 5-lawyer team in Germany.

Hive Bakery was founded in 2018 in Flower Mound, Texas. CEO and founder Haley Popp has had tremendous success despite being an outspoken liberal in a mostly conservative town.

Hive Bakery offers the usual bread, donuts, and cookies, but specializes in custom-made cakes.

After the Supreme Court decision that allowed states to make their own abortion laws, Popp began making cakes with the “My Body My Choice” slogan on them.

History

Trump supporters and Christian fundamentalists didn’t take to this lightly, threatening both Popp and the business itself.

Popp, whose vibrant red hair is instantly recognizable, has appeared on Food Network’s Halloween Wars and become, as her staff puts it, “Flower Mound famous.”

After receiving threats on Facebook, Popp began posting the names and the comments. Supporters have given her already thriving business a boost and nearly every day the bakery sells out before closing time.

In July 2022, the bakery posted on Facebook that it wasn’t in the mood to make festive 4th of July products when half of all Americans no longer have the right to their own bodies.
