George Lane opened a small automotive parts store in 1964 when he grew tired of waiting weeks for parts to arrive from a mail-order catalog. George’s store specialized in racing and high-performance auto parts.

The company quickly grew and soon had a separate wholesale division and warehouse.

History

Today, the Lane Automotive showroom is a 10,000-square-foot building that was made for performance enthusiasts. The showroom is located within the company headquarters in Watervliet, Michigan.

All orders are backed by a 350,000-square-foot on-site distribution center stocking over 100,000 different part numbers.

Lane Automotive became a household name in racing circles in the state of Michigan.

George Lane passed away in 2021 but his sons continue with the business and recently expanded the business to add 138 new jobs in the community.

American Home Shield states that the company paid out more than $4 billion to customers from September 2016 to October 2022.

Sam McGee and his team had been making drinkware for casinos and restaurants for a few years when they got the idea of making a plastic glass shaped like a baseball bat.

He wasn’t sure the product would sell but at the first baseball game he tried, they sold out of 500 beer bats in the first hour.

The Beer Bat has hit an eCommerce home run now that BigCommerce has announced that it would sell this product on its platform.

History

The company went from producing a bat-shaped souvenir drink container for one minor league baseball team to receiving orders from 27 Major League Baseball teams across the country. I

In 2021 The Beer Bat added several Major League Baseball teams including the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres.

By early 2022, the company added more major league teams and expanded internationally into Canada, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea.

The company also sells a non-alcoholic drink in a slightly smaller bat for kids.

The Beer Bat is FDA-approved and holds 26 ounces of beer or another beverage. To hold the bat in place or to display it at home, there is also a beer bat stand available for purchase.

Morris Cohen began a scrap metal recycling shop in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1997. He began accepting cars as scrap metal when he realized that he could make more money selling car parts that were still viable.

The first automotive recycling business in Georgia, Pull-A-Part, began in 1998.  The company has expanded since, and in 2013 purchased Texas-based U-Pull-It Auto Parts Inc. as its 25th location.

The business is still family owned and operated with Morris Cohen’s sons handling daily operations. As of 2022, the company has 25 locations in 12 states.

History

The company works closely with environmental management programs to provide an environmentally responsible way to manage scrap vehicles.

In January 2008, Pull-A-Part was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for its participation in the EPA’s National Partnership for Environmental Priorities.

Pull-A-Part was the first facility to achieve the Indiana Clean Yard – Gold Level Award from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) in October 2009.

In August 2022, the company acquired U-Pull & Pay for an undisclosed amount. This will add 11 more locations to the Pull-A-Part family, brining the total number of locations to 36.

Kahoots Feed and Pet Stores Corporate Office

Friends Mike Bittinger and Ethan Tunnell spent a few years going door to door and farm to farm, delivering hay and other pet food supplies.

They quickly discovered what their customers wanted and needed. The Bittneger’s opened their first store in 1987.

Today, the company has more than 20 locations. In October 2020, Bittinger and Tunnell won the SBA Small Businesspersons of the Year Award.

History

In November 2021, Kahoots partnered with Animeals by allowing drop-off boxes to be placed in all locations. Customers can donate toys or pet food, which Animeals will have delivered to needy families with pets before Christmas.

In November 2022, Kahoots offered all veterans a chance to adopt a dog or cat with no fees.
