Allied Security was originally founded under the name Allied Barton Security in 1957. In 1965, the name was changed to Universal Protection. Over the years, the company has been acquired or has acquired a long list of security companies.

In 2016, AlliedBarton and Universal Services of America merged, renaming the company Allied Universal Services. After this merger, Allied Universal became the largest security company in the US.

In 2019, the company expanded internationally by opening offices in the UK.

History

In December 2019, the company was hit with a ransomware demand from Maze Crew. Maze Crew did make some information public in early 2020 after Allied refused to pay the ransom.

In November 2020, Allied Universal Security made an offer to acquire security giant G4S, but the offer was rejected.

Also in November 2020, the Denver, Colorado, city council threw out a $25 million contract with Allied after their security officers assaulted an unarmed black man.

In May 2023, Time reported that employees state there is a lack of training and oversight at the company.

Allied Universal Security maintains a corporate office in Conshohocken, Pennslyvania.

Tusk Ventures was founded in 2015 after co-founder and current CEO Bradley Tusk helped Uber find the start-up cash required to get the company off the ground.

Tusk realized that other start-up companies would require funding as well. Tusk Ventures was the first venture capital fund focused on investing in early-stage startups in regulated industries.

In December 2019, the company closed its second fund within four years, a $70 million investment vehicle to invest in startups that need to navigate regulations and the risk associated with them.

History

The company has invested in start-ups such as Bird e-scooters, Roman health services, and Alma for therapists.

Tusk is also known for helping political candidates, such as Mike Bloomberg’s presidential run in 2020.

Robert Beckinger remembers working at his grandfather’s furniture store when he was just a schoolboy. Later, he worked for his father after he took over the store after the death of his grandfather.

When his father retired in 1975, Beckinger decided to open his own furniture store. HIs first building had only 8,000 square feet total, including the warehouse.

Today, Beck’s Furniture has 4 different companies, with 3 furniture locations around California. Each furniture store has a minimum of 200 thousand square feet of showroom space and $8 million in inventory for same-day delivery.

History

The coronavirus pandemic has made things difficult but Beck’s has managed to survive, even after tropical storm Dorian ripped the roof off of Beck’s furniture location in March 2020, in Montague.

The company operates a small chain of about 40 casual-dining restaurants in Florida. The menu offers traditional and flatbread sandwiches, soups, and salads, along with a selection of smoothies and other frozen drinks.

In addition to dine-in seating, the restaurants offer take-out service. Crispers was founded in 1989 by Bill and Vanessa Whitaker; it was owned by grocery store operator Publix Super Markets, who sold the company to Healthy Food Concepts in 2011.

Google’s parent company Alphabet backs One Medical and the Carlyle Group has invested $350 million.

In January 2020, One Medical went public on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol ONEM.

The company announced that it would release its third-quarter 2020 results on November 10th.
