O’Reilly’s Automotive was founded in 1957 by father-son team Charles F. O’Reilly and Charles H. O’Reilly when they did not agree with their reassignments in the reorganization of their employer, Link Motor Supply.
They began with one store in Springfield, Missouri. Their first-year sales totaled $700,000. By 1961 sales had reached $1.3 million and by 1975 $7 million.
The company went public in 1993, trading on the NASDAQ.
In 1998 O’Reilly’s merged with Hi/LO Auto Supply, which added 190 auto parts stores in Texas and Louisiana to the company and made it one of the top ten auto parts chains in the United States.
In 2001 O’Reilly’s acquired Mid-State Automotive Distributors, which added 85 more stores to the company. In 2012 the acquisition of VIP Parts, Tires, and Service added 56 stores in New England.
O’Reilly stock was down in May 2019, which the company blames on bad weather across the country, while the EEOC sued the company the same month over sexual harassment and retaliation charges.
In March 2019, a former employee of a Texas store killed two store employees during an apparent robbery.
Despite the pandemic, O’Reilly’s is opening new stores in several states, including Texas.
Today O’Reilly’s Automotive has 5,616 stores in 47 U.S. states. The company has nearly 80,000 employees and had revenue of $11.6 billion in 2020.

What a mistake on my part for actually thinking that the part I ordered and paid for would arrive when I was told it would arrive! I am not even going to talk about the poor customer service at this point or not being addressed or referred to by my name or even Sir. Nope! I am just going to focus on my order not being delivered and how it is holding up any of my other plans for the day. Maybe delivery personnel need to retrained. Maybe new people need to be hired and current employees need to be let go. Maybe we should not tell customers false information regarding when orders are to arrive. Maybe managers need to step up and take responsibility for employees. Maybe I should just shop and spend my money elsewhere!

What are your policies concerning employees vacation, personal and sick leave upon leaving your employment? The management of your store is not responding to the employee’s request for information. Is there a contact point that I can direct someone?

My wife’s battery failed on 7-31 so I removed it that night and returned with sales receipt dated 8-1-16. I purchased the Extreme Battery with 3 year replacement only to be told I was a day late. Three years from 8-1 IS 8-1. If, for example you are born on May 10, you get one year older every May 10. I was told (of course), “there is nothing they can do”. I told the rather than give them even more money, I’d go across the street to AutoZone. Of course this didn’t bother them. Now keep in mind that I do ALL my own vehicle maintenance and repair on five vehicles. All of this business will now go elsewhere, including the Internet.
I’ve written to O’Reilly’s Corp as well. We’ll see what comes of that. Why be a home town shopper when you get this type of customer “satisfaction”.
Maybe if I’d have had a leprechaun with me things would have been different. Or, I could have used my pot of gold.
Terrible customer service.
Greg says
This is apparently incorrect as it is one month less than the overall 3 year warranty, why didn’t you talk to a manager why didn’t you call a district manager why didn’t you go to another store why didn’t you do something different to get your battery replaced as it still had one month to go under warranty.?! I see this as your overall problem because you didn’t follow through the employee was incorrect however you should have gone to another store or made a phone call someone would have correctly replaced your battery including me had you visited my store

just wanted to say that I m greatly disappointed with this company..Here in n.central tx the mismanagement is greatly understressed. After over 10yrs of TRUE dedication and loyalty to this company my wife was done so wrong. To begin she wasnt ever really trained right for mgt position and found out that her pay was less than others and her stock was a little short(where that went i dont know but im sure it was allocated to someone)but she kept her head up and did her job. She was good at it shes been around automotive all her life(father was a mechanic)She was in a locked area but she kept the clients coming in to her they trusted her and would not go to anyone else but her . She had a good strong relations with everyone around and they ALL liked her. She was even put in the oriellys news letter for outstanding customer relations and work Then this new dm comes in doesn’t even know her gives her a bad review 1st time ever (been in the store maybe once then)and tells her to step down or she is going to do whatever she can to put paper on her and fire her and that there is no coming back from that. Said she already had someone in mind for her position. Every since then she has done nothing but hinder her work in everyway she can. She wrote her up for not hiring someone(gave her a week) but when she does(more than just 1 person) the dm puts them in another store and told other team members she don’t think they would be trained right and writes her up or tell her to order a pegboard or of the likes and corporate was on back order so she wrote her up for that. Also wrote her up for a labor claim not received from a client and she(dm) herself went over there to get and they told her they would get to it when they felt like it just as they told my wife but when they got back to store she wrote her up for that. Something the dm couldn’t even do. Then to top it off she forced her to transfer to a smaller store said she would get a raise($100 a yr) if you want to call that a raise which she never saw nor did it make up for the lose in comm. sales which quite a few followed her over to other store in turn cost old store to lose money and pissed off the dm who told her to just send them back to old store. Refused to give her time off for personal reasons which were actually follow ups for cancer biopsy ,never gave her vac time which she lost, and then worst of all CONSPIRED with other team members, a manager and other employees to SET her up and get fired to which the employee sent her a text message saying what they did and he felt sorry for her and guilty so he stepped down to a driver from assis.mgr. All this is just what they’ve done to just my wife let alone all the other people that they fired for bogus personal reasons made it so miserable they quit. The dm and rm did nothing but refuse to help in any way now ,my wife a dedicated loyal orielly’ s employee, who LOVED her career is hurt, stressed, and feeling utterly betrayed because of manipulative lying people that are supposed to represent this company. I’m truly sorry this company has turned it’s back on their employees and when they try and let hr know they’re just told to act professional and keep doing there job…I just hope that someone will care enough to stop this poor excuse of a management here so they stop destroying people’s lives as it is already too late for my wife and others but future employees and in the process maybe this region might start making money again Thank you for your time to read this and hopefully listen.
Signed

We have had the same woes here in MO and they don’t care. The DM is out for his own best interests and we had a store bonus just “disappear”. It’s sad and has affected my family terribly. I’m still waiting to hear anything from anyone but I’m not hopeful.

Dear Sirs:
I am writing to you because when I had a complaint about a product I purchased from your store#1119 on March 27, 2105 a torque converter GM55 item number, invoice 1119-263391 , that torque converter failed and I had to return it for warranty on March 26, 2016, now on March 6, 2017 this second torque converter has failed. I asked to speak to someone in charge and was told there was a customer service number on the door. This was told to me by an employee named Simone. I called the customer service number today and spoke with a young man named Gage who said he would have Scott the district manager call me. As of yet I have not heard from Scott. I know that this was a one year limited life warranty, but seriously two of the same item failing within almost a year from each other. I respectfully request a replacement for this second failed torque converter. I cannot believe that O’rielly’s would not stand behind their product any better than this. And just what exactly is a limited lifetime warranty. I am so displeased with the help I was offered by Simone and with this torque convert. Please help. 817-455-XXXXX

I visited your Old National Store in Atlanta, Ga and had a terrible experience and I think that you should be aware of who is representing your company at this location, I have been in the field of customer service for over 20 years and am currently in management at a high volume retail chain and I have never seen such unprofessionalism from a manager (Joseph ). I was so disgusted with his behavior that I refunded my purchase and went across the street (literally) to AutoZone and will never do business there again. If this type of treatment towards your customers continues your bottom line will definitely suffer.
Please be aware of who is representing your company!

I bought a 6 volt battery for $200 dollars on 2014 for my 1950 Buick super at O’Reilly store the one on Harlem and Ogden in Berwyn Illinois. After one year the battery was not taking a charge. So I took it back and it was exchanged for another similar battery. This new battery only lasted a couple of months. So I returned it back and was told by the store manager that O’Reillys was no longer using that battery brand because customers were having similar issues and it got discontinued. The manager felt bad and offered to exchange the battery for a new one in the back with the same brand. When I installed it on my Buick it was dead. So I charged it for a couple of hours and battery was still dead. So I returned it back and the manager exchanged it for another similar battery and reassured me it was a good battery. When I got home I got the same result with this battery (dead).. So I am home stuck with a $200 battery that should be brand new but not working. I emailed home office and they gave me the spin move for almost a month. And now they emailed me stating that the battery was older than a year and they could not do anything about it. Thanks O’Reilly . I will take my business somewhere else.

You could be me , I went in with my old battery the team member took my old one didn’t ask me anything so I assumed it didn’t matter what year make and model my car was , we’ll it does matter it ruined my car blew out the main fuse and mabey my computer the ste up for positive and negative is reversed in my lexus and it’s still in the shop I’m waiting for the rest of the bad news and after reading all these reviews I guess I’m screwed they gave me my money back but it’s costing me 70 an hr for labor to find out how extensive the damage is then there’s the cost of the parts , I completely disgusted with O’Reilly my car was in perfect running order . 🙁

I have a commercial account with O’Reillys and so does big owe the company I work for now. I bought an AC compressor that went out on me from O’Reilly’s in Glendale Arizona. I went to warranty it and they said they found no record of it in the computer. The only record they found was me warranting it one time before. Because their compressors are crap that’s why all the warranties. All I wanted to do was warranty it for Another they didn’t want to do it said I had to wait for a manager that wasn’t there. So I had to come out of pocket $310 for a part that should’ve been under warranty. I hope something is done about this you can contact me at my email. I spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars a week and so does my company I just hope this gets resolved.

Dear CEO David O’Reilly:
While I love all the employees at your Katy store where I work, this letter is to notify you that I (as a person who diligently worked all scheduled shifts at O’Reilly even on the day my Retired FORTUNE 500 Corporate Officer, best-friend-and-mentor father died on April 29, 2015) have structured a full-time managerial role with a FORTUNE 100 company that has shown that it values my unique, God-given talents shown on the PremierBusinessExperts.com web site, which I built myself. This said I will work my regular shifts at your Katy store this week and next week before starting a new job on June 11, 2015.
Sincerely yours,
Alan Bruce Clark, Ph.D.

They could have wrote my name down and address ,they knew who I am , cause I spent about 500.00 dollars in thepast week I have a rewards card, I will email corporate office and complain ,my fiancee, could go into labor at anytime and now my van is stuck here at my house, in the country without a fuel filter, can’t put the old one on, cause it won’t run, thanks O’Reillys for stress you are casing me, because you shut your computers down, and had a customer inside ,with workers still looking at the computer helping the customer, this store is in El Dorado Kansas, can’t wait to get out of this self centered town!!!!

I’m a little upset with O’Reillys, I purchased a fuel filter, for a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan, LEt 3.3 liter motor and they sell me one for a short wheel base, instead of the one for a long whelk base, and Ispend alot of money at O’Reillys, cause Auto zone sold me wrong parts all the time, this O’Reillys closes a 9 pm, and I called at 8:45 , they have the part, and I got there at 8:58, by my cell phone, my truck’s clock and the banks clock and they had the door locked with a customer inside, and the computer still on, and Dan the manager or assistant manager said the computers where off
and he said he locked the door at nine, and I could see the part I needed on the counter,

On Sunday, July 20th, my wife, a senior lady with limited mobility, was traveling from Boise, Idaho to Tacoma, Washington when the alternator on her car went out. She made it to the parking lot of the Baker City, Oregon O’Reilly’s where the car died. The lady and gentleman on duty that morning brought her a comfortable chair, a magazine and coffee, making her as comfortable as they could while they charged her battery enough to move the car to a nearby motel. Their kindness certainly quelled the fear and apprehension of a senior lady being stranded and alone far from home. They earned my sincere respect and gratitude.
