Jackson Hewitt was founded in 1982 by a group of investors who bought Mel Jackson’s Tax Service and renamed it Jackson Hewitt.
The investors began selling franchises in 1986 and by the next year they had 22 offices.
Montgomery Ward contacted Jackson Hewitt in 1989 about opening offices in their 169 stores across the country. Their competitor, Sears, had been working with H&R Block for years in their stores.
In 1994 Mongomery Ward went public but no stock was issued; the investors’ private shares simply converted into public shares. The same year, the company entered into a trial period with offices in Sam’s Club stores. The trial was a success and Jackson Hewitt made plans to open offices in 18 Wal-Mart stores.
In 1997 Jackson Hewitt was bought by HFS Inc. for $480 million. HFS then changed its name to Cendant Corporation. The company subsequently opened 1,000 new offices.
In 2004, Jackson Hewitt was spun off as a separate company.
At its peak, the company handled 3.4 million tax returns per year, mostly for middle and low income customers through over 5,000 franchise offices.
Today Jackson Hewitt is the third largest service for the preparation of tax returns.

There was mistake made by a Jackson Hewitt tax office when they filed taxes and the IRS sent me a letter saying i owe them 10,000 dollars, and it was a direct result of a mistake on my taxes. I contacted the office and they acknowledged their mistake and promised to send me a 3,300 dollar check to offset the IRS interest accumulated. They said i would be receiving it in about 2 weeks. It has now been approximately 2 months. I would greatly appreciate your help regarding this matter. If you prefer to reach out to me by phone, my number is (502)681-XXXX. Thank you.
Sincerely,

We all know to let it be known that Jackson Hewitt is not the place to get your taxes done….Period.
I literally had a “manager, or owner”, get into a yelling, shouting match….It was amazing; he was angry, yelling and aggressive……Never in life again, will I use or pass up to opportunity to share my experience with Jackson Hewitt.

My taxes were sent by mail/paper. The office ive been going to charged me as if they were sent electronically. From my understanding filing paper is a few hundred less than filing electronically. I really need the rest of my money ASAP. i will be calling corporate tommorow.

Hello. I have been a customer with Jackson Hewitt for over 20 years and I have never been so disappointed in what has recently transpired. My husband and I are military, and have moved around quite a bit. I submitted my doXXXXents to be filed with JH office in Lacey, WA on 4/11/2018. Although we are out of state, we submitted them in Washington because the last two years being stationed in Washington, we felt comfortable and confident with our tax preparer. Unfortunately, my taxes to this day were never submitted. I’ve tried several times to contact the office and was assured they were working on it and would be finished in a week. Well, a week has came and gone. I called corporate and was assured it would be looked into, still no word. Today is 6/1/2018 and my taxes still have not been submitted. I have made numerous attempts to contact the local office but all I get is a recording stating that the office is now closed for the season. I am beyond livid! This is wrong on all levels. I would appreciate if someone would contact me as soon as possible.

Hi I filed taxes with JH in Toledo Ohio on 4/15/2018. My taxes were never submitted. After a month of waiting I contacted the local office who informed me that a mistake had been made. There was no explanation as to why I was never contacted to resolve any problems. Today is 5/30/2018 and my taxes still have not been submitted. I have contacted corporate who assured me that the local office would fix the problem within 48 hours. This has not been done. I have made MANY attempts to contact the local office but the phone just rings and rings. I am beyond livid! I have been doing business with JH for over 20 years. This will be my last!!! I would appreciate it if you or someone would contact me.

I have filed with JH for many years and this year is the worst! First off the preparer filed my taxes illegally! Since she was so sloppy with it the IRS sent me a letter stating my taxes we’re done wrong and I needed to go back to the preparer and have her fix it. I have emailed, been on the phone with JH and nothing but wasted breath because nobody at the customer call center wanted to actually file my complaint till yesterday and mind you I started calling and talking with them the end of February! So careless and unprofessional! I have been in communication with the IRS and will continue until this is taken care of! $600 to file my taxes illegally, I think not! Never again!

I have never been so lost to use Jackson hewett in kings mountain nc. I wont use them again and I will bad mouth them ever chance I get. no help after they get your money . I have tried for months and nothing is what I got. if the corporate don’t help it will be worth whatever a lawyer cost to sew them. the return was less than the money paid to file. and then nothing. all they say is we sent them, and the irs says we never received them. what to do now.

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with, and from going on your facebook page I see I am not alone in saying this. I have been trying for over 3 weeks now to get an answer back from a customer service rep with no return call. I was made a lot of promises that now I am finding out were all lies.
Wow can not say enough bad things about this company. So sad!!
