Iron Mountain Incorporated is a data processing, records management, and data backup, destruction, and recovery services company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.
Herman Knaust made his fortune growing and marketing mushrooms. In 1936 he purchased a depleted iron ore mine and 100 acres of land in Livingston, New York, in order to have more space to grow the mushrooms. He named this piece of land “Iron Mountain.”
In 1951 Knaust saw a business opportunity: to protect corporate information from nuclear attack and other disasters during the Cold War. The company’s first customer was the East River Savings Bank, which made microfilm copies of deposit records and duplicate signature cards and brought them in armored cars for storage in the mountain facility.
In 1978 the company opened its first above-ground storage facility.
From 1980 to 2007 Iron Mountain grew through acquisitions, with revenue increasing from $3 million in 1981 to $2.7 billion in 2007.
Today Iron Mountain has 155,000 corporate clients in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
Iron Mountain trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol IRM, is a member of the S&P 500, is #712 in the Fortune 1000, has 19,500 employees, and had $3.03 billion in revenue in 2013.

I worked for the General Electric Company, a very large client of Iron Mountain, that has invested millions. I have been trying to correct a billing issue for 3 months. Your corporate office does not answer the phone. Iron Mountain Customer Services does not exist. I need to escalate this. I would like a direct phone number to your Executive Operations Manager in Boston asap or any # to any Iron Mountain Executive staff. Thank you.

Iron Mountain (I affectionately refer to them as Iron MONSTER) is undoubtedly the WORST vendor I have ever had to deal with. Customer service is non-existent. I really don’t understand how they can stay in business, but since you can’t get anyone to help you close an account and your records are all held hostage while you are being overcharged monthly with their ever-increasing prices, I guess we are all stuck! INSANITY! I cannot get a quote to close our account. I cancelled our shredding service, but they won’t come pick up their bins. I’ve sent no less that 20 emails requesting help and not received a single phone call or response (other than an automated one stating I will hear from them).
I agree with previous notes above. You should be ashamed of yourselves for operating in this manner.

How did you ultimately get your contract cancelled? I am trying to cancel our contract as well.

I have been trying to cancel your shredding service for a month. I have called five times, used your on-line chat 5 times and just spent another 30 minutes on the phone. It appears your service reps are not allowed to process this request and they do not know who is your company can, seriously. The wait times are hideous and I am then put on hold for a manager only to be told they are unable to help me either but I will get a call back. The fact that I have to take my time to even write this speaks volumes about your business.
I just posted this on pissed of consumer website. And will continue to post wherever possible. What a horrible experience. If I could give your company a negative (10) I would.

Iron Mountain’s AR department is probably the worst that I have ever worked with. They consistently claim that payment has not been received and it is more that 6 months and so many phone calls that I cannot even count. I will never deal with this company again and unless you want to hand deliver your payment and watch them post it to your account, you should not either. With their accounting system, I would love to know how they stay in business. I will be filing a complaint due to harassment for something that they cannot locate.

I have been trying to contact someone at Iron Mountain in finance, accounts payable, etc since they have made a DUPLICATE property tax payment of $135,941.89. Cannot get through using the voice recognition for various departments. This is an urgent matter, and is quite frustrating, but I am unable to speak to anyone.

i have been trying to reach someone in your Human Resources department for several days now to verify employment. i have tried numerous phone #’s with no results. I wish someone could please give me a legit phone # so i can verify employment on a : Evans E. Ford-SS#496-90-XXXXX. This is totally ridiculous. You would think that such a big company like yours that a better system to reach your HR department would be better.
Thanks

I have been stuck in a telephone loop for hours. I am calling to discuss an important issue. Your company does not provide storage boxes with legal width. This means that we have to use 3 times as many boxes and are charged per box. Can someone tell me a reason (other than the obvious – making more money) for this? I am a VERY disappointed customer.

Dear Human Resource,
I am a temporary data entry worker for Iron Mountain in Livermore, California. I want to file a complaint of my supervisor Kim. She has been harassing me for so many months and using gang slurs towards me. I have no knowledge of her intent but she is singling me out. Our goal is based on production, attendance, and teamwork. I’ve exceeded and contributed to everything that I am asked to do. Based on my knowledge I am one of the top performers and just a few weeks ago, Iron Mountain started a hiring process which they hired those who started before and at the same time as me. Majority of my co-workers were hired except for me. I out performed the majority and I do not know why I was the only one being excluded. I have brought this to my coordinator Michelle’s attention last week and by me speaking up they decided to let me go today of 3/30/2017. They falsely accused me of cherry picking boxes yesterday of 3/29/2017, which I never did. I had one incident in which I was cherry picking and was warned not to do anymore. This was probably about a month ago and after that I haven’t cherry picked. I feel like my supervisor Kim is discriminating against me for no reason based on false accusations. Majority of all my co-workers can vouch for everything that I said, so please take a look into this matter.

This is about the washing of trucks at 11:00 at night. I live next door and get up early in morning and this is keeping me awake. Isn’t it supposed to be done during the day…Really 11:00 p.m.

I have been trying to get someone at Iron Mountain to give a positive response for over two (2) weeks and can not find anyone to help. We need a Certificate of Destruction every time that we are serviced and I have been told you do not do this. You claim it is good enough on our bill which is NOT what we need. Please read what my employer sent me:
There are many companies out there who claim that their shredding processes are secure, but they do not provide any proof that guarantees this. In this case it would be best to go elsewhere for your needs. A truly reputable paper shredding company will provide you with a Certificate of Destruction as physical evidence that your doXXXXents have been securely destroyed. If you do not receive physical doXXXXentation after every shredding service, you should not accept that your material has been securely destroyed. A Certificate of Destruction provides peace of mind, acting as a point of reference and accountability should any unforeseen issues arise.
I need a call from an executive who will comply with our needs. Waiting over two (2) weeks is plenty of time.

Neither extension worked and this corporate line is a joke, not funny. It just recycles me theu the process again and again. No receptionist ever picks up or VM is reached.

Have used you in the past. Will now be looking for alternative company to use.
You really need to have a reference sheet for your customer representatives of things they should be telling the customer in advance such as not doing stairs, someone has to sign, etc. Very frustrating to get different information each time I call on the same order.
Two representatives were supposed to call me back regarding delivery time. Keep getting told they have to check with delivery department? center? Either put on hold for 10-15 minutes or told they can’t reach them and will have to call me back. Both never bothered to call back.
I spent way too much time this past week on orders that should have been easy.
Unfortunately, the language barrier also does not help the situation.

The phone system for this company is terrible….no live person and when you do get one, they hang up on you….our company was trying to get in touch with HR for a verification.
The 800 number is just as bad, got someone in a call center off shore I am sure and she had NO clue what I was talking about and would not send me to HR or give me their number….not impressed at all with this company.

I scheduled 2 days in advance for an extra pickup on two locations on a reoccurring shred visit, I received confirmation that the request would be taken care of on September 16th it was not, the CSR’s I spoke to were very nice but the problem is the transportation department in Pittsburgh pa, I spoke with two separate csr’s and neither could get a response from the transportation department, it was a nice day maybe they left early. Not happy in Washington PA. I stayed at work till 6 PM waiting for an answer, think will go home.

To: William Meaney, CEO
First, I would like to say that I am aware of your company due to my use of Iron Mountain through several work places over a number of years. Until today I thought your company offered great service. Until today.
I am currently in the process of attempting to organize a residential shredding service in St. John’s, NL. You have an office here, but I can’t reach anyone there by phone because a phone nu,ben is not listed or available – apparently a potential customer has to get in their car and car and drive 20 minutes to the local office. RIDICULOUS!!!
What your wonderful company does offer on your website is the ‘opportunity’ to speak to a call centre in the Philippines. Your wonderful website information directs me to a 1 877 number that shoots my call off to a that call centre in the Philippines. Is the same of all your websites. I have I been trying to get information about your local residential service and a telephone number for the local Iron Mountain office for over 1 and 1/2 hours! I’ve spoken to 4 ‘customer service’ reps in the Philippines, including a manger, none of these people has been able to help me in the least.
Since the call centre is unable to provide me with the information I require, I decide to contact information a Customer Service Manager at your head office in Boston – I think surely they must have a customer service manager there. AGAIN, I am directed to the same call centre in the Philippines. I’m also told by the 4th person I spoke with that I am “speaking to the best customer service representative here”- really, this is the best your company can do? Oh but this face is not over yet.
I then attempt to call Iron Mountain headquarters in Boston directly (1-617-535-4766) and I have to listen, once again, to a message that says what a industry “leader” Iron Mountain is. On this number I get looped around an asinine automated telephone system because, of course, there is no live person to speak because reception does not answer and the system “did not get” the name of your CEO.
So, in wrapping up this complete farce, I would like to say that your company must be run by robots. Iron Mountain must have one of the absolute worst ‘customer service’ track records in the history of business. That Iron Mountain is able to stay in business is mind-boggling to me. You should be ashamed of the way you do business never mind your ‘customer service’. I’ll take my business elsewhere – thanks for nothing but a headache and completely wasting my time.
Signed: One completely pissed-off potential customer!
