Commercial Metals Company (CMC) was founded in 1915 by Moses Feldman as a metal recycling company in Dallas, Texas.

In 1932 Jacob Feldman, Moses’ son, founded a steel brokerage house under the name Commercial Metals Company.

In 1947 Marvin Selig founded Structural Metals, Inc. This company would later become CMC’s Steel Manufacturing and Fabrication Segment.

In 1965 the company expanded internationally for the first time, opening an office in Holland.

Today Commercial Metals Company manufactures, recycles, sells steel and other metals in 200 locations in 20 countries worldwide.

Commercial Metals Company trads publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CMC, is a member of the S&P 500, is #327 in the Fortune 500, has 9,400 employees, and had $6.84 billion in revenue in 2013.

Gilead Sciences Corporate Office

Gilead Sciences was founded by Michael Riordan in 1987 with a $2 million investment from Menlo Ventures.

The company focused on making small strands of DNA to assess the potential of gene therapy. Gilead Sciences developed small molecule antiviral therapeutics in 1991, one of which was tenofivir, which became one of the most widely-used anti AIDS drugs.

Donald Rumsfield became a board member at Gilead Sciences in 1988, and was the chairman in 2001 when he was stepped down to become the U.S. Secretary of Defense. At the time he owned between $5 million and $25 million of Gilead stock.

Today Gilead Sciences is a biotech company with treatments for hepatitis, HIV, infections related to AIDS, cardiovascular drugs, and respiratory and ophthalmic medicines.

The concept for CarMax was developed by Circuit City executives in 1993 after it was proposed by a consultant who was hired to evaluate new business opportunities for the company.

Today CarMax is the largest specialty used car retailer in the United States with 225 superstores in 41 states, mainly in the Midwest and Southeast.

The company also sells used vehicles through 325,000 in-store auctions at 225 stores and operates four new-car franchises.
