Lee Apparel Corporate Office

Lee Apparel, also known as Lee Jeans, was founded in 1889 by Henry David Lee, in Salinas, Kansas. The company originally made jeans and jackets, but today, also manufactures shirts, skirts, belts, and children’s clothes.

The company experienced substantial growth in 1913 when they developed a Union-All work jumpsuit. In the late 1920’s, the company introduced the zipper fly, rather than the standard button fly. By 1960, the company had expanded and their products sold in more than 81 countries. In the early 1970’s, the company branched out into western wear, women’s clothing, and accessories, such as belts and hats.

In September 2020, the company announced that it was partnering with Selfridge stores to feature jeans made from recycled materials. 

Today, the company is owned by the VF Corporation, and has headquarters in Merriam, Kansas. The VF Corporation is an international retailer of clothing. Lee Apparel has at least 400 employees in the US.

Hollywood Park Casino Corporate Office

Hollywood Park Casino was founded in June of 1910 as the Hollywood Turf Club, a horse racing facility, owned by Jack Warner of Warner Brothers Pictures and numerous other investors. The park was closed during WWII, but reopened in 1945. Although numerous celebrities could be seen there, the park always appeared to be on the verge of bankruptcy

In 1994, the park added a card playing casino to the racetrack. The company was sold in 2005 to the Bay Meadows Land Company, with the stipulation that horse breeding and training would continue for at least 3 years. Despite numerous efforts to keep the track open, the company decided in 2013 to keep the casino and sell the racetrack.

The track will be made into a football stadium in 2017. The Hollywood Park Casino continues to prosper. Headquarters for the company are in Inglewood, California, right outside Los Angeles.

Arkansas Electric Cooperative was founded in 1949 in Little Rock, Arkansas. This is a nonprofit utility cooperative which offers wholesale energy to 17 cooperatives.

The company currently serves more than 500,000 customers, covering about 62% of the entire state of Arkansas. A few members of this cooperative are C&L Electric Cooperative, Farmers Electric Cooperative, Mississippi County Electric Cooperative, and Clay County Electric Cooperative.

Arkansas Electric Cooperative, better known as AECC, also provides electricity, though long term purchase plans, such as their current 20 year agreement with Flat Ridge 2 Wind Farms in Kansas and a 20 year agreement with Origin Wind Farm in Oklahoma.

Butterball was founded in June of 1940 when Ada Walker of Wyoming, Ohio, applied for a patent for her way of making turkey. Today, Butterball is one of the leading producers of turkeys in the US. The company sells more than 1 billion pounds of turkey meat each year.

Although the Butterball name has been around since 1940, the word was actually just a trademark. It became a company in 2006 when Maxwell Farms and Seaboard Corporation, who each owned half of the name, decided to join forces and create Butterball, LLC.

In 2008, the company states that it had  $1.5 billion in revenue and employs more than 5,500 persons. The company is most famous for its pop-out type of timer, which indicates that the turkey is thoroughly cooked, as well as their Turkey Talk Line, where customers can ask for help with their turkey.

In March 2021, employees at the Butterball plant in North Carolina began vaccination efforts against the COVID-19 virus.

The Sacramento Zoo opened in 1927 with just 40 animals on 4.2 acres. Today, the zoo has 500 animals on 14.3 acres. The zoo  was free until 1965, when they began charging a 25 cent admission fee.

The zoo is a non-profit organization which focuses on conservation and animal welfare. The zoo has opened numerous new attractions, including a penguin exhibit in 2007, the Tall Wonders giraffe habitat in 2010, and the Small Wonders of Africa in 2014.

The Sacramento Zoo feels that the focus of zoo’s has changed over the years; from housing animals as exhibits, to an emphasis on conservation, education, and recreation.
