AMPM Corporate Office

Founded in 1978 by the Atlantic Richfield Corporation, AMPM is a chain of convenience stores most often attached to ARCO or BP gas stations.

BP acquired Atlantic Richfield in 2000. While many locations have changed the name of the gas stations to BP, some retain the ARCO name and logo. The AMPM name remains the same. Convenience stores are mostly franchises with more than 970 locations found mainly in the Western portion of the US.

A key focus of AMPM is its food program. Stores offer fresh coffee, bakery items, fresh sandwiches and hot foods, such as hot dogs and burritos. AMPM offers up to 24 different soda fountain flavors and a condiment bar so customers can top off their nachos or hot dogs with pickles, onions, cheese, and other items.

The company was chosen by Convenience Store News as being the 2018 Best New Food Service Offering with their Project Mojo.

In June 2019, the company announced that it would carry Harvest brand CBD products, which include lotions, oils, and snack bars.

In August 2022, the company announced that it would start expanding the AMPM convenience stores to the East Coast.

Kum and Go Corporate Office

Kum and Go can trace its roots back to 1959 when William Krause and Tony Gentle founded the Hamptom Oil Company. This later became the Krause Gentle Corporation and in 1963, the company introduced their first convenience stores at their gas stations.

The name Kum and Go, a play on the word “come” using the Krause and Gentle initials, was adopted in 1975 to unify all of the convenience stores under a single name. Part of the company’s franchise success was due in part to a unique marketing campaign in which they featured the Kum & Go “Gold cup”. The cup was introduced in late 2008 for the holiday season. It featured an 8oz coffee mug for $50.00 and benefitted customers by offering unlimited coffee and soda fountain refills for 2009 at any Kum & Go location.

Company headquarters moved to Des Moine, Iowa, in 1988. The company underwent tremendous expansion in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Today, there are 400 locations in 11 states. Convenience Store News listed Kum and Go as the 23rd largest convenience store chain in 2010.

In addition to gasoline, motor oil, and other automotive supplies, the company is known for its merchandise, which features their logo, including t-shirts, mugs, and baseball caps with built-in bottle openers.

William’s grandson’s Kyle and Tanner Krause are now in charge of the daily operations for the company. Tanner Krause stated in an interview that knowing he is responsible for the livelihood of the more than 5,000 employees of the company makes him think hard before making any major decisions.

With that in mind, Tanner expanded full-time status to more than 2,000 formerly part-time employees, making them eligible for health insurance, paid time off, and maternity leave.

After moving into a new home, Joe Lunsford discovered that several furniture pieces had been damaged. He tried to get them repaired but was unhappy with the service and the work that was done. Lunsford began his own furniture repair service, Furniture Medic, in 1992.

ServiceMaster acquired the company in 1996. Today, there are 200 franchises across the US and the UK. Entrepreneur listed the company as #233 on their list of The Fastest Growing Franchises in the US in 2017.

The company offers furniture repair, restoration, and remodeling services. Furniture Medic recently introduced an app that allows potential clients to snap photos of damaged furniture and upload it to the Furniture Medic franchise nearest to them. Estimates for repairs can be given without a service call or dragging the furniture to the location.

Dogtopia was founded by Amy Nichols in 2002. After a breakup, Nichols got a companion dog, a Boston Terrier she named Griffin. She found herself taking the dog everywhere and when she married, she sold her house and decided she wanted to create a business where she could spend more time with dogs and where she could spend her days with Griffin.

Doggie daycare was a fairly new concept in 2002 but Dogtopia grew fast right from the start, with revenue of $750,000 her first year and well over a million the following year.

In June 2015, Dogtopia was acquired by Thomas Franchise Solutions. Dogtopia offers daycare, a doggie spa, grooming, training, retail products, and on-site cameras so clients can see their dogs anytime.

As of January 2019, there are 100 locations in the US and Canada. Forbes predicts that the demand for doggie daycare and walking services will increase tremendously by 2024.

Dogtopia has continued to expand, even through the pandemic of 2020. The company now has 170 locations in the US and Canada.

CoreLife Eatery Corporate Office

CoreLife Eatery was founded by Lawrence Wilson in 2015. The company operates a chain of casual/fast-food vegetarian restaurants. Currently, the company has 52 locations in 11 states with 26 being corporate owned and 26 being franchised locations.

The menu consists of three types of vegetarian “bowls”; grain bowls, bone-broth bowls, and green bowls. Customers can also choose “make your own bowl.” While being vegetarian based, the restaurant chain does offer menu items with chicken, pork, tuna, and beef. The children’s menu includes items like pasta and chicken noodle soup.

Forbes states that the chain doubled its revenue in 2018.
