Stride Rite was founded in 1919 by Jacob A. Slosberg and Philip Green in Boston, Massachusetts. Originally called The Green Shoe Company, Mr. Green sold his half of the business to Slosberg a few years later. In 1966, Green Shoe adopted the Stride Rite name to emphasize their biggest selling product, infants and childrens shoes.

The company acquired The Keds brand and Sperry shoe names in 1979. Today, Wolverine WorldWide owns Keds, Payless, Sperry, and Stride Rite shoes, acquiring them in 2012 for $1.23 billion.

Lucky Brand Jeans was founded in 1990 by Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman in Vernon, California. In the early 1970’s, the pair used to go to laundry mats and, using coins and bleach, make their own uniquely patterned jeans. This is the style for which Lucky Brands became famous for.

In addition to jeans, the company also offers sportswear, T-shirts, men’s shoes, active wear, and outerwear. The company launched a line of children’s clothing for infants and new borns on through age 10, in 2006. Jeans make up 60% of the company’s sales. All jeans have two, 4 leaf clovers with the words “Lucky You”stitched on the outside fly. Some Lucky Jeans are still made in the USA, however, many are now made in China, Peru, Mexico, or Indonesia.

Shoe Carnival was founded by David Russell in 1978. The company operates a chain of shoe stores across the US. As of 2015, the company had 555 locations, mainly in the south and Midwest regions of the US.

The company’s majority stockholder is the former owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, J. Wayne Weaver. Although the name says shoes, the company also offers handbags, wallets, socks, and shoe care items, such as leather cleaner.

The company is publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol: SCVL.

Fashion Nova was founded in 2014 in Vernon, California, by current CEO Richard Saghian. The company runs a chain of eCommerce and stores offering women’s fashion clothing, coats, and shoes. Although very new, the company boasts more than 4 million Instagram followers in less than 1 year. The company is said to conquer the “thirst trap” with their ads on Instagram.

The company currently has a 180,000 square foot warehouse in Los Angeles, California, and 5 locations in the greater Los Angeles area. Unlike many other clothing brands, Fashion Nova sews their own jeans here in the USA. The company is best known for its sexy, Victoria Secret type models.

Fashion Nova clothing is often seen on celebrities such as Nicki Minaj, Amber Rose, and Blac Chyna. Although the company has already had more than 146 complaints on the website, they currently have a B rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Vans was founded in 1966 by Paul and James Van Doren, in Anaheim, California. Originally called The Van Doren Rubber Company, the company makes shoes. The company became very popular in the early 1970s for allowing customers to bring their own fabric and have their own “personalized” shoes made. Vans were often used by cheerleading and school sports teams for this reason.

The company was sold in 1988 to McCown De Leeuw & Co. for $74.4 million. In 2004, the company merged with VF Corporation. The company has sponsored The Warped Tour for more than 20 years. Many skateboarding professionals use only Vans shoes.

Vans shoes became so popular in the late 1980s that counterfeit shoes became the basis of a US/Mexico investigation and, for a time, all production was stopped. In addition to shoes, the company also offers t-shirts, hats, hoodies, and backpacks with the Vans logo.
