Mom’s Organic Market

Scott Nash founded Mom’s Organic Market out of his mother’s garage in 1972. With a bicycle and a $100 investment, he began delivering and selling groceries.

In the mid-1980s, a friend of Scott’s gave him a big boost when the organic market he had been working for went out of business. He placed a sign on the door telling customers to call Mom’s Organic Market.

Today, Mom’s Organic Market has 21 stores in 6 states. While most stores offer an organic section, Mom’s is strictly organic. The company is best known for Bring Your Own Container, where bulk items, such as spices and cereal can be placed in the customer containers, reducing plastic and cutting costs.

Nash says that the store doesn’t do gimmicks and they don’t give away things, but they do offer a low-price guarantee.

In January 2023, the company opened its 22nd location in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Taco Management LLC, doing business as Taco Bueno, offers Tex-Mex-style fast food with 142 locations in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas.

The company has been bought and sold several times over the years, and for a short time ( 5 years) it was even owned by Carl’s Jr. However, in November 2018, the company filed for bankruptcy. It was then purchased by Sun Holdings, which also owns other franchises. An affiliate of Sun Holdings, Taco Supreme, assumed Taco Bueno’s outstanding debts and put $10 million into revitalizing the company.

In August 2022, Taco Bueno brought back a customer favorite, the Brisket Taco.

Also in August 2022, the company began expanding once more with new locations opening in Texas.

Mr. Puffs was founded in 2004 in Montreal, Canada, by Billy Siounis. The company offers a dessert bar, serving puffs with various toppings, ice cream, coffee, and coffee drinks.

Puffs are similar to donut holes, made with simple ingredients such as flour, water, and cinnamon. Vegan-based puffs are also available.

Franchising began in 2006. Starting with a single location, Mr. Puffs now has more than 20 international locations, with the newest store opening in Florida.

Mr. Puffs has continued to expand across Canada and the USA, despite the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, Uber Eats announced that its most ordered food in Quebec was Mr. Puffs.

Apparently, not everyone is a fan of Mr. Puffs. In February 2018, someone tried to set fire to a Mr. Puffs location in Canada. Luckily, the store was closed and there were no injuries.

In 2011, Landry’s bought two more restaurants, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood, and Morton’s The Steakhouse.

 In 2012, the company expanded its entertainment division, opening the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.

The company owns and operates more than 600 restaurants, hotels, casinos, and entertainment destinations in 35 US states as well as the District of Columbia.
