Five Guys is a casual chain of restaurants serving typical American fare such as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries, and hot dogs. The company was founded in 1986 by Janie and Jerry Murrell in Arlington, Virginia. When they opened the restaurant, the couple had 4 sons, making it the “Five Guys.” The Murrells went on to have a 5th son later on. Today, all 5 guys (sons) work for the restaurant chain.
The company began franchising in 2003 and quickly expanded. Five guys currently have 2,500 locations throughout the U.S. and in 7 countries, including Ireland, which opened its first location in early 2016. Five Guys is the fastest-growing fast-food restaurant chain in the U.S. with an increase in sales over a three-year period of more than 32%.
Five Guys has received some criticism lately from magazines and websites which claim that their burgers and fries have more fat and calories than any other fast-food chain. Five Guys insists their food content is on par with other fast-food chains.
In addition to food, the company offers merchandise displaying the 5 Guys logo, such as t-shirts and mugs.
In May 2022, the company opened its first Sydney, Australia, location.
In March 2023, Five Guys opened its first location in Gangnam, South Korea.
Five Guys maintains a corporate office in Lorton, Virginia.

At the South San Francisco Westborough Blvd. store there is an employee named Antonio, he is perhaps the best, most competent, confident, and kind restaurant worker I have ever encountered. He is a middle aged man who projects an inviting atmosphere. I’m not really one to leave comments, however, Antonio stands out to me so much I felt.compelled to let corporate know. I enjoy the food, but I believe I would be a customer of any store or restaurant this man was representing.
Hope this message reaches someone with the ability to reward outstanding empoyees.
Thank you,

Today my husband and I stopped by the five guys in the Georgetown shopping center, Brooklyn NY. Unlike our prior visits, this was the worst service by the manager (wouldn’t provide her name) on duty tonight. Her team were more understanding and more professional than she was. Incidentally, they forgot to give us the bacon cheeseburger we ordered alongside a milkshake and fries. We returned to the store (after making it all the way home), just to be told we will not get a new burger and for us to take a refund. Despite our continuous efforts to explain that we thought the burger and fries were in the same bag and taking the cold burger she was offering us 40 minutes later is unacceptable. She handed us the money and stated that she’ll call the police if we didn’t leave cause she didn’t like our attitudes. She also told us to get a life, when I started recording her unprofessionalism. I’m going to send the video to corporate and possibly post her on social media for the world to see her antics.

We went to Santa Fe NM yesterday April 14 and ate at 5 Guys between 4:30 and 5:30 pm so far it has always been good but yesterday I met my husband there we live an hour away he came from work and we met there to eat we had the exact same burger fries and bottled waters, I got a side of mayo for my fries with ketchup. On our way home I was sweaty, chills and cold at the same time unfortunately I had to stop on the side of the road, I could not make it home and then I barely made it home and had to rush to the bathroom. So all I could think of is the Mayo was not refrigerated and that’s what got me sick since that’s the only difference in my husband’s and my meal. Please inform your employee’s how important it is to refrigerate things or get rid of it so customer’s don’t get food poisoning.

The Chauncey-Dover Lions Club will be hosting our Annual Chinese Auction on Saturday April 6th, 2019. This year, our auction will be held at the Chauncey Elementary Gym with doors opening at noon and the drawing to begin at 2:00pm.
For over a decade now, our auction has raised money to help our small community. Money raised is all non-profit and has helped many members of our community. We bought playground equipment, built a new roof for the local shelter house, provided financial support for children with disabilities to gain job/work experience, and have brought Santa to our small village with goodies for our local children. We also arrange a yearly parade and hot dog roast around Halloween for the community and help with the Athens County Band Festival. The money raised has also helped many families who needed a helping hand or were hit by hard times, whether it was with a bill or helping out after a fire or with funeral expenses. We also help members of the community with eye glasses and visiting the eye doctor.
None of the above would be possible without YOUR help. No donation is too small. This auction is our primary fund-raiser and it truly benefits our community as a whole. We are asking that you take a little time and help with a donation. Your donation would be greatly appreciated and will help to make our auction a success.
Thank you for your time.

If you are concerned about safety and cleanliness you should look into the Fryer Cleaning tablets that eliminate handling dangerous caustic liquid or powdered fryer cleaners. One tablet simply dropped into the fryer eliminates handling, saves you money, and cleans better than liquids or powders. Contact me for details at the above address.

Oct. 29, 2:15pm visit, Bayside Marketplace, Miami, Florida. Ordered small fries and coke, they know me by name. When I checked the bag, because the order clerk didn’t use the scoop, bag was light on fres, about two deep..Showed it to a female employee I knew, asked if the portion was correct – she replied no, showed it to the counter employee who said they were out of small cups and using regular size ones so not using scoop, that was their only answer. Same counter employee had shorted me fries two other times, and another oee once. Been a regular customer.
Last visit same time, because I worked across the street, tried to purchase meal with a $50 bill. Counter clerk refused my order, stating thee was a big concert next door and they needed all the cash on hand for customers ??? I walked out without ordering.
Visit before that. Sitting at a back table, same time frame, noticed a young girl, around 25 or so, bit disheveled. She was by the drink machines, dumped peanuts in her purse and hit the ice button, got ice in her hand and ate it, apparently thirsty. When I asked her if anythig was wrong, she strted crying and said she hadn’t eaten all day, didn’t want money, but could I buy her something to eat. Took her to the counter, told her to go ahead and order a meal, which she did, I told the cashing I was paying for it. Cashier shouted “you found someone to help you?” As I paid, she advised the next in line customers that the girl was homeless and I was buying her food. No business embarassing the young lady that way she thaned me, I went back to my table, she got her meal, and we had no further conversation. What type of help you have working at this store, I heard awhile once that corporate had to come in and take it over because of poor service?
The other two visits of note were when I was shorted fries on my order Regular customer (until last Monday). When I left, showed the cup to the cashier, she said they were using larger cups that is why the fries appeared to be less, No further explanation needed. Asked if I wanted to see the manager, replied no (there would be no point). When I left did leave the cup, and told her to tell the manager he just lost a customer (I would normally eat in Five Guys maybe 50-60 times because I wok the arena for concerts and the Miami Heat), for the past 19-years. Told her to tell her manager he lost a regular customer over a measly scoop of fries (politely), which is more than I can say for your staff at Bayside Five Guys.
Well Done!. .

Why are you flaunting your conduct of “federal” business on a public Website? Would an IRS agent do likewise? This nonsense is very poor form indeed. If your ersatz organization wants to pull stunts like this, I invite you to try it somewhere appropriate — as on Websites for golf courses and yacht clubs favored by major Republican donors and Beltway lobbyist “heavies.” Let THEM worry about staff shortages and quality control.

Wow, just left Shelton Ct. 5 Guys, what an insulting Manager. I went and called ahead to place my order and was promptly put on hold. Three minutes later I called back and the phone rang until an automated operator cut in and said “all lines are busy” and then hung up. Same thing happened twice more. Walked in with the phone ringing and asked the cashier to answer the phone. He looked at me with a smart-a$$ grin on his face and said “It’s not ringing”. I told him he needs to learn how to work his phone and he claimed he did. I put my ringing phone on speaker and it again went to “all lines are busy”. He hit a button on the phone as I redialed and this time the phone rang. I asked for the manager and he claimed to be the manager so I asked for his name and he refused. He looked to young to be a manager but nobody in the grill area said he wasn’t. This boy is not qualified to be in public service, much less a manager. He must have gotten the job through some form of blackmail. Can’t wait for the Corporate offices to open back up after the holiday. Worst experience in any food establishment to be lied to my face so the manager will get out of the responsibility for a botched phone order.

I visited your Bear, DE store. It was slightly wet that day and I was walking across the floor carefully. I walked onto the carpet at the soda machine and slipped on the carpet and fell to the floor. My leg got caught in the rug and I was seriously injured. After they called 911, the manager came out and took our information. We have tried to contact him numerous times and he refuses to contact us in return. I was out of work for six weeks and am continuing to receive rehab. No contact from the store and no help in any of the bills caused by the I jury at this store. If we don’t hear from the manager within a week, corporate will hear from our attorney. I will never go back there because they do not care about their patrons.

I am amazed at the lack of response to my issue. The store is in Morgan Hill California. Over two weeks ago I tried to take my wife to Five Guys for dinner. After ordering our meal, I attempted to pay with a Five Guys gift card. Cashier explained that they don’t work here….I have since found out that this has been their practice for over a year. I have spoken to Store Manager who lied to me saying that this has only been going on for a month. I have also spoken to Cody Rea the complaints rep for Five Guys. It has been 2 weeks now and I feel like my issue is being ignored. Bottom line is that Five Guys has my money (purchaser of gift card) and will not allow me to redeem gift card. I would call that STEELING. I will be looking closely for my next steps. If corporate will not handle I will need to Better Business Bureau or Local TV consumer help line

We have purchased burgers and fries at your Lynnwood Washington franchise perhaps 30-35 -times since they opened. We like your burgers very much. We believe your franchise must have the lowest bacon expenses for all franchises. He last three times we ordered double bacon cheeseburgers, they have had NO bacon on them, at all. We usually take the burgers home to eat them, and don’t realize they are baconless until we get home. We ordered two bacon cheese burgers, today, and my wife mentioned to them that the bacon had been missing on the last three orders, and they said they would take care of it. Well, guess what two more bacon cheeseburgers with no bacon. That can’t have been an accident. My guess is it is a cost cutting measure. I don’t like to be cheated, so, I guess we must find another dining facility. Perhaps this location needs to be monitored.

I was at the Five Guys Store #1516 15 Webb Place Dover, NH on 8/26/17 at 7:58. I received my shakes in my order within 5 minutes. However my burgers took till 8:37. When I finally got them all of them were burnt on one side. Our order was slightly difficult in that my did not have a bun but in someways that would be easier one less thing to cook. When I commented that it had taken awhile for our order the girl offered excuses in that they were 3 people short tonight. I do not know how many people in takes to run your operation but as a former restaurant manager it should never take 35 minutes to cook a burger anywhere. Especially in a place they is cooking only burgers and fries. (mostly). I thought you called out the burger as I placed my order but when we walked over to check on things our burgers we just be cooked at 8:20. I do not know what burger they were cooking when we first got there but clearly things were not running smoothing. For a dinner that cost me $33.62 The burgers were the worst I have ever eaten and for a place that I was enjoying going to I do not know if I will ever go back. I was not the only person who had a long wait time either. The order # 3 before was put in at 7.52 I looked to see if I was the only one that had been waiting. Another gentlemen who walked by me as I was waiting, said he could get faster food at a sit down restaurant. I do not think any of us would have been quite as annoyed if the girl running the pick up orders were not saying what a great job everyone was doing… and half the crew was more interested in singing the song lyrics than working. At this point we just wanted our food and then we got it and it was lousy.

Went to my only local Five Guys today & had the worst customer service experience ever! I asked the young lady to change her gloves after I observed her gliding her hands across the counter top with the ones she was wearing. She then ask me why? When I explained I didn’t want her to touch my burger with the same gloves she replied the counter is clean. She proceeded to under cook my fries, and when I asked her for her name she refused and went into the back area. I called the location to get her name, only to find out she was the manager. Unbelievable! Never going back again!! No different from McDonalds, and I don’t eat there either.

The wife and I were at the Cedar Park Tx store. We asked for a large burger to be cut in half. Buy the time the young man finished mangling the burger with a small disposable plastic knife it wasn’t really fit to eat. I was told they were not allowed to have a real knife. I sent a complaint and Jay Kemerling sent me an email explaining “While it is company policy to wrap the burger and cut it with a disposable knife, for health and safety reasons, I have advised all of my employees that no one will be arrested for using an actual knife in a non threatening manor in the store.”
Is this really your policy, to use disposable plastic tools? Are the kitchens tools you use not clean enough to cut a burger? Is your staff to incompetent to handle real kitchen knives.
I have trouble believing anyone in the food preparation industry would have a policy like this.
Thank you
Jim

I am the parent of a young lady that works at one of your locations. I will furnish the store location when I receive a response from you asking for it. My daughter has worked for you for 3 months or so, the problems started from the beginning. Was given a start date, that had to be moved numerous times due to her manager not ordering the correct size shirts. She completed her on line training while at home waiting for her to be able to start work. It took over a month and 1/2 to be paid for that training after being told that he didn’t think he could pay her the training. The paperwork was signed for direct deposit and a voided check was given to the manager before she even started work, due to delay with uniforms. Manager stated the voided check he was given would not work due to needing a voided check from the bank??? What is that?? I’ve had direct deposit for 20 + years, different companies and there is no such thing as a voided check issued by the bank. As of today, still no direct deposit. She was consistently scheduled past the time that a High school student, by law in Texas should be scheduled to work. When that was brought to the managers attention, his response was to cut her hours to one 6 hr shift a week, even when she told him she wanted more hours and was willing to be a closer on Thursday,Friday,Sat, School is out now for almost a month and still 1 day a week!!! The#1 manager is now telling people that he is interviewing that he has a problem with my child. The person he was interviewing is a friend of my daughter so of course that information came back to her. This manager and a Team lead I believe, called my daughter into the back of the house to ask if she was spreading rumors about the male 21 yr old manager being inappropriate with a 16 yr old. My daughter denied it, but since then her hours were cut down again from 2 days a week to 1. She regularly closed with a newly promoted manager who has taken a dislike to her, possibly a racial thing, and has now taken to calling her a fat cow to other employees on shift, and has made another young lady actually cry during her shift to the point where she had to run to the bathroom, another young lady of color. On a regular basis my daughter has asked to be taught to run different parts of the store, grill etc but is continuously get assigned to be both the register and Lobby, to include cleaning restrooms, but with 4 or 5 people on the floor, no one else will touch a register while she is cleaning, then she gets ridiculed by this same new manager, saying she is slow and I am going to give you your tips in quarters because I had to call you twice to the register. I find all of this disturbing and wonder how a lawyer may view this. Oh and not to be forgotten is the buying of marijuana by the #1 manager from one of his employees. I feel like this location is out of control and a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I was a employee at the five guys located at 56 w 14 street in manhattan, I spoke to my general manager about, managers abusing their rights of being a key holder,
I explained how one female manager will have sexual activity after closing on multiple occasions,
My general manager didn’t take that into consideration but told the manager my name and after that I felt a lot of hostility towards me from almost ever employee
After asking for a transfer they wrote me up and said that they are writing me up for my performance but my performance hasn’t changed and that was the reason they said they can’t transfer me.
Also the store manager isn’t any better I text him about how I am a full time employee and only getting 10 hours a week, and explained how I feel working at the store and he said he’ll handle it
After a week my general manager told me that the store manager said for me to never text him to follow the chain of management, but the problem was with my general manager ? So whom else would I have to tell but him.?

I’m close with an employee at the new store in Oneonta NY. I’ve never seen or heard of the kind of crap that is going on in that restaurant!! It seems like its ran by a bunch of immature people that treat the place like a highschool including the bullying! It seems that all the promises of “treating our employees great” is a straight up lie. This woman busts her a** working there. She is forced to do the jobs of 3 people because management seems to good to actually work. She has been working there since before the store even opened, doing cleanups for the construction crews still there. Yet , because she wants to work in a professional environment an not a highschool environment, she is looked down on by the immature management team. Everyone that works there has gotten their raises that they were promised and she has NOT and its been three weeks since she got it. They cut her hours down to 25 when she informed them she wanted 40 hours and they agreed. Then they just hire more employees instead of giving the hard working employees the hours. She was told she would be a shift leader and instead they put a convicted felon on parole and a known theif in the position instead..all because they were friends with the manager. Not because they were qualified. She has had an employee steal right out of her purse and management refused to review the cameras to see who did it. They have also shorted every paycheck over the last month. Obviously she is looking for a new job now but its sad because she had high hopes for her job just to get s**t on because the higher ups refuse to do anything about any of it. When all she wanted was a fair and professional work environment!! Also, I will be looking into the legal ramifications of this nonsense as well. I’m sure discrimination is part of this and unlawful business practices. This is the crap that’s wrong with our world. Someone needs to do something for the good people out there.

I went to your fast foods 5 guys in Alamo,Ca on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. When I walked into your fast foods place no one greeted me except a young man named Jared. Jared was the only one working as all the other kids were talking & didn’t acknowledge me, the customer. Finally, Jared told me he would help me. As he started to go behind the counter one of the employees came over to the order area. I changed my order & waited for my burger & fries. I picked up my order & went outside to eat my late lunch. Since I forgot to pick up my pickles that I had put on the side, Jared brought them out to me. Again, he was the only one working. So here he is greeting, offering to take your order, busing & cleaning while every kid was standing around talking. You see Jared walks with a limp and wore a brace on his arm. He is courteous, friendly and works hard. Someone needs to know that he is a great worker and I hope he will be rewarded. Thank you for looking into this

If you ever want to work for five guys I wouldn’t! The company set policies and regulations that need to be followed by general managers, grey shirts, and red shirts don’t follow them. I’m a former employee and working at five guys was beyond horrible and the store was a joke! Grey shirts were messaging and contacting red shirts sexually, general managers not going by policy and regulations. So much drama at five guys! One employee pushed me and threw a soda at my car today and I’m definitely going to press charges! When trying to contact the general manager I was told I wasn’t allowed on the property by a red shirt. Definitely a joke of a store and definitely a joke of the company! And if you want to eat anywhere go to the habit burger or in n out! Way better quality food and a lower price!

I got food poisoning from store number 11 located in Fredericksburg, VA. I was customer #60 December 1, 2016. I became violently ill Friday morning . I called and spoke with Blanca Rincan she took my number to forward to the store manager. After deciding I needed medical attention, I called the store once more to let the manager know I was going to do. Ms, Rincan once again told me she would contact the store manager and he would contact me. Ms. Rincan contacted me prior to my leaving for a medical facility. She told me the manager was not going to call me. it was not his job. If I had a complaint to call the toll free number. Ms. Rincan gave me the number and apologized. Ms. Rincan has been the only helpful person in the five guys family regarding this matter.
I contacted the toll free number and gave a report. the report number is 10680850. Your customer representative told me “if they don’t call you, call them.” As of today, no one has contacted me regarding this matter.
I am astounded by the customer service or lack of customer service provided in the incident. You are a company that pride itself on great service. I called the cooperate office today, spoke with the person answering the phone. Of course the individual I needed to speak with was not in. And I did not leave a message. As a customer who got violently ill from food consumed from your restaurant it seems someone from you staff should contact me, if not just to see what was going on.
I would appreciate someone from your organization contacting me regarding this matter.

I frequent this location several times a month and have always been impressed while waiting or eating on the care your staff takes on changing gloves and not cross contaminated food and rolls on the grill. As well as steadily cleaning the grill. However on this visit your cook, Michael was not doing this at all; placing the raw burgers on the grill and then handling the buns and going over and wrapping sandwiches. He then took a phone call and returned to the grill wearing the same gloves all the time. This I had never watched before and felt you need to be aware of this. Please advise me if this is now your policy in food handling .My transaction # 531786 order #86

I went into the 5 guys restaurant in Hicksville Long Island on December 12, 2019 As I usually go every day for lunch. This was the filthiest place I’ve ever seen. It seems like there is no one watching Over this particular store. I went to use the bathroom and the lock on the door was broken. One of the female employees walks in While I was in there and what is worse the bathroom was filthy. I filed a complaint with the corporate office and no one has gotten back to me. I will never go back into this chain restaurant again totally filthy and disgusting.
