In 1992 brothers Robin and Chris Sorensen were thinking about buying into a sandwich franchise when they were inspired to start their own business. Firehouse Subs was born.
The brothers were former firefighters and decided to make their sandwich shops have a firefighting theme – with Dalmatian-patterned tabletops, firefighting equipment, and sub names like Hook & Ladder.
Firehouse Subs expanded by franchising. The brothers maintain tight control over the organization and carefully vet franchise candidates and potential markets. Their focus on frugality and managed growth have led the company to success.
Today Firehouse Subs has more than 1,000 company-owned and franchised locations in 20 Southern states.
The company went international in 2015 with locations in Ontario, Canada.
In 2017, the company expanded into Mexico, launching 3 locations in and around Mexico City.
Firehouse Subs offers a grant program for various fire stations across the country. In January 2023, the grant gave $25,000 to a Pennsylvania fire department for bunker gear and equipment.
Firehouse Subs features hot and cold sub-style sandwiches as well as salads, soups, and sides. The company has headquarters located in Jacksonville, Florida.

I have reached out to our local firehouse subs 7 TIMES!
I ordered on 1/23 at the Gastonia NC location
I ordered 3 hook and ladders, very simple orders. I was given my food 20 minutes later, the worker apologized for the wait and had a smile on her face.
I got home (half hour away) and opened my subs and was missing meat
I was literally given bread, lettuce and condiments.
For a $30 order to be only given bread is ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!
I have tried to reach out multiple times, I’ve called, I’ve emailed, I’ve filled out the contact me forms 4 times! I still have not received any sort of communication via Firehouse.
I want to speak to someone regarding this IMMEDIATELY!

Went to a location in anchorage Alaska. Worst service ever. Wasn’t treated like a customer. I was given my food before several others that were there before me. Even tho they complained. Got the wrong sandwiches and they sucked. 40$ down the crapper.

Firehouse helps firefighters and also is helping my dog! I have a 12 yr old Pom. We just found out she has a very aggressive form of mouth cancer. The Vet said she maybe has 3 months before we have to put her down. Since it is mouth cancer, she has a hard time opening her mouth to eat. Every other day I order a med Club, extra meat, meat only for my baby. She has no problem eating it since it is shaved so thin and tender. If needed, I will buy her one every day! Thank you Firehouse Subs!

Location in Kalispell, MT. Employees were extremely rude, they were using profanity and talking about another employee in a negative way in front of me, called me and my friend a b*tch and got us banned from the restaurant. The only thing I did was stand up for someone who was being bullied and if this company is ok with bullying that’s not my problem I guess firehouse is not a family friendly environment. Sanitation is another thing not being followed. When you are handling food you must wear gloves and wash hands frequently especially since the covid outbreak. One of the employees had just finished handling cash when she made my order, she did not wash her hands or put gloves on. Apparently she didn’t care that those bills had most likely been in some disgusting places or used to snort drugs.

Deplorably disrespectful, lousy, contentious service and more of the same from the customer “service” people, who have ignored THREE complaints.
Went in 2nd time to give 2nd chance after 1st visit took 15 minutes to get take out order (though place was empty). This time, after 20 minutes (again, empty) for two simple sandwiches and I got pissed and complained. The guy starts arguing and justifying why it takes so long. “We got a big order before you came in” “Not my problem. You know your trends, it’s noon, and should be properly staffed”. More “yeah buts” and “It’s not 20 minutes, it’s only 17.” Seriously?? Arguing with a customer??? Here’s the proper reply: “I’m so sorry, and you’re right: It’s up to us to serve everyone promptly and accurately and we haven;t done that here. I’m really sorry to have kept you waiting so long, and I’d like to offer to buy your sandwiches for you and hope you’ll come again”. THAT’s how it works, and THAT would have made me a customer but no. Arguing was your approach.
Demanded money back, but this guy didn;t even have authority to do that, and got on the phone to get clearance from god knows who. It was now 25 minutes and order STILL not ready. IN AN EMPTY STORE!
Yelp complaint got a patronizing “Hope you’ll give us another chance” Guess what? Already did and you couldn’t perform twice. Complaints to corp met with silence. Demand to talk to franchisee? Ignored. Ask (again) for money back? Ignored.
Really a superb performance from the moment we walked in til now. How you stay in business I really don;t know.
Richard says
…..and not surprisingly, the company ignores this as well. Just give them your money, wait forever, and shut up. What a quality operation

Here in Pasco, WA we just got a brand new Firehouse Subs on Road 100. Figured I would try them out the last night. Knowing that take out was only option during these crazy times I went online to order a couple subs but found out you can not actually order online. I had to call them to place an order. When I got there I was surprised that they actually had a drive thru window, which was nice. Price for the 2 subs came to 23.25. Handed the gal 24.00 and she gave my the subs but no change. I had to tap on the window to get her attention. Asked her what happened to my change. She acted like I wasn’t suppose to get any change. She fumbled around for a few minutes until I finally knocked on the window again and told her to forget about it. Will I go back? NO First time experience was enough for me not to go back. She also was not wearing a mask, I was. Social distancing was less that 3 feet from me to her. From just seeing that it would lead me to believe anyone else in the building wasn’t wearing masks as well.

I went to fire house on 9/11/2019 in Fredericksburg, va. I ordered online and went to go pick it up. I get there and ask if they had made my purchased they said no. I I had to spend more time buying one and then having to wait 30 more minutes to pick it up. The employee handed me my sandwich and wasn’t very apologetic. I have work in the restaurant Busy before but never this slow. I was on my lunch break for work, I don’t get paid to wait on the employees I have a few minutes to grab and go.

Thank you for the reply.
Our refund policy for any sandwich is that we must have the sandwich back. We will gladly remake any incorrect sandwich or refund if you are not satisfied with it. In order to do this I need the sandwich returned, or what is left of it, to verify that it indeed was not eaten. I am extremely sorry that you didn’t like the ham and I wish you had reached out to the store that day as we could have accommodated your request immediately.

I have written several times to ask if you were planning on putting a Firehouse sub location in Goleta, Calif. There’s a new strip mall that still has a empty spot that would be a Great location for one of your stores. Lots of traffic and plenty of parking. I know you had one in Isla vista but was not in a good location and hard to find and no parking. The information about the location I’m referring to is through Westar Associates the number is 1-800-353-XXXX and their website is wesatrassociated.com Thanks for considering this info.

I was at the Dothan /Enterprise Alabama restaurant recently, while traveling to see my military son. This was my first visit ever. What a disappointment! I ordered, ” a turkey sub on untoasted wheat bread with MUSTARD ONLY.” When I finally received my sub, there was cheese on it. I brought it to their attention and I ended up having 3 employees yelling at me, telling me that I didn’t specify no cheese. I did, when I said “MUSTARD ONLY.” They wouldn’t fix the sandwich and told my husband that cheese come standard on all subs. They didn’t even have mustard on the sub. Sounds like they screwed up the order, but they blamed it on me. I am still upset how they were yelling at me, like it was my fault and wouldn’t fix the sub. I guess customers aren’t very important to them. I contacted corporate by doing the survey on the receipt, but have not heard anything, and it has been over a week.

Last week I ordered subs from my local firehouse thu uber. Uber app said 30 mins which is usual time. Was ordering 4 subs. 20 mins into my 30 min wait the firehouse app said older was cancelled. I calle firehouse to see what happened and was told by employees that they canceled my order due to they got busy. I contacted uber and uber called store and told them we got busy. My account was charged 33 dollars which I’m still waiting for refund. This isn’t the first time they have cancelled my orders . Most time I end up driving to pick it up. I have the flu and couldn’t pick up. I will no longer order from firehouse. If they can wait 10 mins before subs are to be delivered and cancel ordering dont need to spend my money with them. This store is located at 3587 lake Emma road , lake Mary fla. 32746. Be careful order somewhere else. I would like a email back so I may talk to someone about this. Oh btw order WAS NOT CANCELED BY UBER

Plastic in My Food – Manager On Duty DID NOT CARE – and seems like no one else!!!
I was in the New Bern, NC location (#1058 )Thursday Feb 8th around 5:15pm.
I ordered a large steak and cheese and a small brisket.
When eating the steak and cheese I found a piece of plastic in the sandwich. I contacted the
store and they were like it could not have been them. I took pictures and sent them to 252-
626-XXXX (one of the manager’s phone) and they were adamant that it could not have
happened. I asked if they could run the camera back to see what happened and they said “No”.
All in all they said they would give me another sandwich (for free). I told them it would be a
while before I would be back. SHE NEVER APOLOGIZED!!
A month goes by and I realize that I have not heard for upper management. I made a formal
complaint on the Firehouse website (on or around 3/10/2018). After a couple of days I still
had not heard from Firehouse so I called the number on the website. I was then notified that that Firehouse was privately own and that the complaint was forwarded to the owner. I waited
another day (or two) and still no word so I called the store and spoke a female (she said she
was the GM). As I was bringing up what happened, I was told that she, the GM, had not even
heard of what happened until the day prior. So, no one on the Thursday night Feb 8th shift
even bothered to tell upper management. I explained how the manager was so nonchalant
with the situation and how she said no they didn’t do it, no they would not check the tapes,
etc. She was very short with me on the phone. The worst customer service. The GM offered
to make me a new sandwich as did the other manager but no one was taking me seriously
about how bad the hygiene issue is when someone leaves plastic in a sandwich. I told the GM
that I still had the plastic in a zip lock bag and could bring it to her. She said yes and stated
that I could drop it off during the week or on Sunday when she would be there. I opted to
leave it with her. The next day I heard from the owner and told the story again.
I dropped the plastic off on 3/18 with the GM. The GM went on and opened the plastic right
there WITHOUT GLOVES on the counter in front of the register. I told her not to because it
had been in my mouth. There was an employee there that day that witnessed her handling the
plastic with her bare hands. I reminded her that the plastic has been in a sealed zip lock bag
since that night and it’s full of germs. She said she would pass it on to the owner.
A week goes by and I have not heard from the owner on the plastic so, I called Firehouse
hotline again to voice my concerns as well as report being ignored and not being taken
seriously.
Since then I have spoken w/ or communicated via email with the following:
Tim Goss
John Best
Don Mason
Jeff Fisher
Vikki Fritch
I spoke with Vikki Fritch (Quality Control) on 5/10, who said she was “notified about the plastic a couple of weeks ago” and still wasn’t in possession of the plastic. According to my timeline, it would be around the last two weeks of April. I dropped the plastic off at the New Bern location on Sunday March 18 but the negligence happened on Feb 8th, where I was treated as a con artist and a liar.
I would not be wasting my valuable time, if I had been treated like a respected human being. The manager on duty on 2/8 blatantly disregarded me, called me a liar and never disclosed what happened to upper management. Here I am five months later and I am truly, truly upset. No one seems to be doing any type of follow up but me!

My wife received her Birthday sub in November and the General Manager Trace Goodwin will not give me my Free Birthday sub. I showed him my License ID for my Birthday November 27,1958 .He said we don’t do that way any more.I said I don’t have a cell Phone and I been getting a Birthday sandwich for over 10 years with no problem and I bought many sandwiches in a year. For one small Free Birthday sandwich he will not care if I bought in the past and that it was my Birthday today. I asked him to call Headquarter and he will not do it. I said could I use your phone and he said No, to go outside and use a pay phone. You can’t find a pay phone these days.
I felt very bad to have a General Manager treat customers that way.I am surprise that Higher Managers teach customer service to act that way to a customer.
Please send me a gift card and voucher for the treatment and inconvenience and the embarrassing situation in front of other customers.

Very Disappointed in this Firehouse
We love the ones in Charlotte-Great customer service! NOT THE CLAYTON, NC LOCATION!!!!!
This franchise is atrocious-! My wife and I have been at this location a few times and have been disappointed in the service… Our last visit we didn’t even get greeted, the kids that were there were more into playing around in the back than helping the one girl actually working… When we finally received our order it was wrong… The girl didn’t even apologize, all she said was “well we are out of lettuce” this is at 8:00 pm on a Friday… Then she begins to tell us that even with her being the “shift leader” she is not old enough to cut some nor is anyone else there do it… She said you have to be 18…Then she and another staff member start talking about the management and completely trashes them and the company…. WOW
Called the corporate office about this location and I was told this is not a corporate store and they could only send the complaint to them… I called the corporate office 4 different times (1 a week) and told them I still have not received a phone call…
As of today I STILL have NOT RECEIVED any response from the owner or the manager…. I have waited 4 weeks…. Completely REDICULOUS!

I have gone to this location in Greenwood SC.several times and always love my meals. On the last 2 times i was rushing to get there only to go inside on one occasion to place my order and then be told they were closed by the associate who then locked the door behind me. Tonight i pulled up 2 minutes before closing and had the door locked on me. I know this is not the way business is to be conducted and sure hope its not what you want from your employees. I was truly disappointed again.

I am not sure what kind of business you are trying to run or what kind of employees you have working for you but i will never eat there again! My daughter went in to get food there today in your Decatur Alabama location in the shopping center with Walmart and they made fun of her name the whole time she was in there and to top it all off one was a manager and she was wearing a blue shirt! So then I call back up there and ask for the number to corporate and I got the number but you can’t leave a message and It says you are there til 8. I am very upset that you would have small minded people and that they don’t wear name tags. If I his is something you don’t mind I will make sure I spread the word about rude and unacceptable the people who work there are and that you don’t care about your customers

On may 12th approximately 7:30 pm, I called and ordered a steak & cheese sub located at White oak mall in Richmond, VA, which is about 5 miles from my home.
Went to pick up the sub to be told oh forgot we don’t have anymore steak. When I asked the manager why didn’t you call me back to let me know before driving to your store, responded we don’t have called Id. Manager goes on to say we made the last steak sub and I didn’t realize I hadn’t taken more out of the frozen. What!!!!!!
Is this poor management or inventory? Let’s not forget about customer service since there was no type of compensation for wasting my time and gas.

5 9 17 at 12:01 pm placed order, same store with Cashier Sara; I spent $15.28, order #204052 . FINALLY got my order at 12:20 pm after I had to ask. Sara was sorta “short”
with me. My money, my sandwich. She was letting others who came in after I did get
their orders. Not good for your business. Poor planning on her part; I assume she was in charge. My suggestion: FIX PROBLEMS AT THAT STORE ASAP.

Today on my way back from Danville Il to Springfield Il I stopped at Firehouse Subs in Champaign Il. At 1:00 pm I went in, I was the only customer in the place, three women were working and discussing personal information. They continued to speak amongst themselves for several minutes and did not acknowledge me. A man and women entered the store and one of the workers went to the register and said welcome to Firehouse Subs. I then left the store very unhappy that they did not acknowledge me or could not even say I’ll be with you in a minute. So we started eating at Firehouse in Ames when they first opened, it was awesome. Staff would always greet you with a smile and say something nice like “Welcome to Firehouse” or “Hi, thanks for coming” the food was fantastic with lots of meat on the sandwiches, and the place was clean. STOP. . . . this is not the same Firehouse any longer. . . rude staff, filthy store, and barely half the meat they used to use and small portions over all. I paid close to $35.00 for two 8 inch subs and 2 kids meals and we left hungry and sad. I will not return unless I hear through the grapevine that there is either new management or new staff. I took pictures of how terribly dirty the place was, heck the napkin holders had so much dust and filth on them it looked like they had not been cleaned in at least a month. I had to ask for a towel to clean our table and when he brought it, he put our food down on the dirty table and wiped around them, really?? We will not return.
Even more irritating is that I tweeted to them and got not even the slightest apology, I emailed them through their webpage not once but twice and still no response. . . they know this place is crap and do not even care. What if Chris Sorensen knew would he care????????
