Ferrellgas Partners was founded by Alfred Carl Ferrell in 1939 as A.C. Ferrell Butane Gas Company.
The company sold floor furnaces and gas heaters from one store in Atchinson, Kansas and prospered during WWII and the years after.
The owner’s son, James Ferrell, took over the family business in 1965, renamed it Ferrellgas, expanded through acquisition, and established a wholesale operation.
Today Ferrellgas Partners is the second-largest propane retail marketer in the United States, selling 947 million gallons of propane in 2014. The company has 50 service centers, 864 retail distribution locations, and over 1 million industrial, commercial, and agricultural customers.
Ferrellgas and Blue Rhino merged in 2004 for an estimated $343 million in cash.
On December 30, 2019, the company de-listed its FGP symbol from the New York Stock Exchange and listed its public shares on the OTCQB exchange with the symbol FGPR. This change was necessitated because the average closing price of the company’s common stock over a consecutive 30-day trading period had remained less than $1.00, which is an NYSE listing requirement.
Ferrellgas Partners trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol FGP, is #967 in the Fortune 1000, and had $1.68 billion in revenue in 2019.

This us the worst company ever. Thry brought a bad tank. I didn’t find out until I finally got a gas delivery. They eventually replaced it with another tank but it was empty. It is my second hurricane and 2 months later and I still don’t have gas. Now they say I have to wait 2 more weeks.

The bosses are horrible especially mike Cook. When you have some one that is willin to work 60 plus hrs in 6 days then you treat them like crap and cut them down to struggling to get 32 in one week.

Leaking gas from your install, pretty much acted like tough shit, did nothing for me at all. I bought and paid for the install from Ferrell gas here in NC, Please contact me, or I will take other actions against the company. I paid for the gas, the gas leaked and they offered me a $4.00 credit. What a joke.

Gas Guy says
I bought a house, and it came with propane tank with “FERRELLGAS” written on the side. Long story short, litterally blowing it up would have been a lot less hassel. I had to report them to law enforcement!
This house was being converted to electric, because electricity is cheaper than propane. I called Ferrell and told them to take their gas back. However, every time I called them, they either gave a BS reason why it could not be moved or gave a variation of, “We don’t know what you’re talking about.” This lasted about two weeks.
One day out of the blue, a guy in a Ferrell pickup arived with a special trailer. There was absolutly no notice given to me about his arrival. I asked him “Are you here for the tank?” He replied, “Yes.” Unfortunately, he claimed he could not take the tank, because it was full. He claimed it had to be pumped first! He didn’t say when it would be pumped.
Next day I called Farrell again. I asked when I could get rid of this tank. To my surprise, they said, “We already have a guy on the way to pump it.” I was away from home, so I told them, “Tell the driver to wait till I get there. I’ll be there in an hour.” Less than an hour later I arrived at my house. There were tracks leading to the tank. There was also a note on the door that simply read, “Call us,” followed by a number. Due to Ferrell’s lack of customer service, I had put a lock on the tank earlier just in case.
I called the number. They said, “You need to remove the lock on your tank.” I replied, “I told you to tell the driver to wait till I got home.” A long arguement followed as usual. They denied sending a truck out there! I demaned to talk to the manager. During the argument with her, she said, “We can not credit you for the gas.” I asked her, “Then why did you send a guy to get it?” She explaind that the propane did not come with the house. She also claimed the purchase agreement for the house did not prove ownership of the propane. After arguing a while longer, I said, “I want this on the record! You can take your gas and tank, but you must pay me for the gas! You are also not allowed to send anyone to my house while I’m not there!” Then I hung up on her. After that, I blocked the entrance to the tank.
A few days later that first truck driver arrived at my house without any advanced warning. He just had a trailer, not a pump. I said, “I thought the tank had to be pumped first before it could be moved?.” He replied, “We are tired of pissing around it, so I’m going to just pick up the whole thing.” Naturally, another argument ensued, and, thankfully, he left.
Imediately after that incident, I called the local sherif. At first he basicly said there was nothing he could do, and I was better off with the courts. Imediately after that, I called Ferrell HQ and told them the whole story except my recent call with the sherif. They only defended their actions! They said “A purchase agreement only proves you bought a house, not propane.”
After I hung up with Ferrell HQ, I saw I had a missed call from the sherif. He said, “They are willing to pay for the propane. They are just waiting for a copy of your purchase agreement.” I told him that was a lie. I also told him about my conversation with Ferrell HQ. He asked, “When was that?” I answered, “Right after I called you. Thats why I missed your call.” He said, “Here’s what we are going to do…” Somehow, he got Ferrell to agree to pay me for the propane. They would pump it while supervised by a deputy.
When the Ferrell driver arrived, the driver did not come in a pump truck as promised. Instead he came with a simple trailer. He said, We don’t need to wait for the sherif. I can just take it now.” I replied, “You have to wait for the sherif first.” He tried to argue with me, so I just went into the house and locked the door. Fortunately, when the sherif’s deputy arrived, things went smoothly. However, we had to wait almost an hour for Ferrell’s guy to print out a recipt! He claimed he had the wrong one. During the wait, the guy asked, “Can I hitch up the tank while we wait?” Naturally, I refused. Finally, the recipt was printed. It looked a little too generic to me, so I asked the deputy to look at it. He said it was normal, so I gave the driver the OK.
The money I am to recieve is a lot more than what other companies would charge me to purchase propane due to Ferrells extortionate rates. However, I am disapointed that Ferrell will not be seeing any criminal charges anytime soon. At least I will not have to deal with them again.

I changed propane companies, Ferrellgas was $2.00 a gallon higher. Then some arrogant little 20 year old had the nerve to tell me they check competitions prices and ferrellgas is competitive? Obviously doesn’t know the meaning of the word. I asked almost 4 months ago for them to pick up their tank. It is still in my backyard blocking the access. Horrible company all the way around. Avoid like the plague! How do companies like this stay in business? Banning, California
Opine2u says
That isn’t unusual for a company to take their time picking up a tank. Ferrelgas did that to me the last time I cancelled them. Eventually, I sent a letter outlining that if not picked up in 30 days, it would be considered abandoned and would be disposed of by the property owner.
If they stand to lose the tank, they’ll find time to pick it up.
Ferrelgas has just bought the company that I fled them for when they bought my previous provider, and this time I know to bail before we ever do business, so once again a Ferrelgas tank is sitting out front for pickup. Never again! This time I won’t be so slow starting their 30 day clock!

To Whom It May Concern;
I am submitting our payments toward two separate propane bills on our behalf. The larger amount is for our original bill and the smaller one is for the bill that has created some massive confusion. Let it be known however, that my husband, Isaac Nunn, came to the office in person to order the fuel. He gave his name and our address and somehow the delivery was placed under the owner of the property, Lucas Madrzyk instead of under Isaac Nunn. This was not our mistake. He was physically standing there in person and gave our name when he ordered it. Somehow, the owners were billed for the delivery and since then when they initially called they were led to believe that we had ordered it under their name. This is something I do not appreciate and do not believe to be fair. It is embarrassing on our end to have our landlord think that we would do that and also to not have the office be accountable for this mistake, which is completely understandable, is disappointing. I spoke with Lindsey, who was not the one who took the initial order, and she was very helpful and stated that in order for the correction to be made we would first have to pay the bill. I get it, payment needed. However, we have not been able to make that payment until now so all this time I understand that my landlords have continued to have to clear their names from something that they had nothing to do with. I truly just wanted someone to be accountable and to tell Sheri and Lucas Madrzyk that someone made a mistake and to apologize. Instead, after speaking with them it seems that no one has come forward to say they made a mistake and that they’re sorry but it will be handled appropriately. Instead, the fault still seems to lie with us that we haven’t cleared the payment that stands mistakenly under their name on the wrong account. The reason I am so bothered by this is that the delivery before that one was sent to the wrong address and the driver called to say that the occupants of that home were angry with him for going into their backyard and what the heck was he doing there?! I told him that was our OLD address and during the call directed him to our home. So this is two times in a row there has been an error when we ordered although this time it has put us in a situation that is uncomfortable with people who we not only rent from but are our friends.
All in all, I really just wanted someone to be accountable. Isaac physically came in to the office, he did not call or order online, he stood in front of the person who took the order and gave them his information. When the Madrzyks called to inquire about the bill they were told we called the order in. Not true. Then once we figured out what happened they were still told that no one was really sure what happened. That is not fair. We know, and you know that it was a mistake on the behalf of FerrellGas, not ours and all I want is accountability. It should not have gone on for as long as it has and the fact that we have not been able to pay it until now should not make a difference to the fact that someone is being charged for something that was mistakenly put onto the wrong account. Once I heard the Corporate office was involved I thought, Good! They should be! This is not our fault and yet we are being made out to be the bad guys while we have been honest about the whole thing.
Here is the payment for both accounts, I apologize for the delay but nonetheless, here it is and hopefully this squares it away. I would hope that the Madrzyks can be offered an apology for all the inconvenience they have faced in dealing with this. We have been honest with them and I would hope that FerrellGas would do the same. I am also including this via email to the Corporate Office so that they can hear from our side as well. Just make things right, that is all I ask.
Thank you very much,
Jaemi and Isaac Nunn
