I resigned from EyeLevel last night due to the unprofessional way in which the Greensboro Center is being overseen. Please see below my concerns and I have addressed these with the owner. I wanted you all to be aware of some of the concerns. These have been concerns of all the staff the last year. Thank you for taking time to listen.
Good morning,
Please accept this email as my resignation from Eye Level Tutoring effective immediately. The way in which, the grader volunteer Nick Nguyen and I were spoken to was extremely unprofessional and demeaning of you.
I want to point out some things that could have been avoided, if you had come to me privately and we conversed about it:
Treyvon did take the Level E assessment. It has been sitting in the bottom of the basket WITHOUT a name on it. He passed it; therefore, he moved on to F level. I have been trying to figure out who it belongs to. I would not just move a child without assessment data to back up the decision.
Reina is ready for Level 7. Yes, she is having some difficulty; however, just because she is for once having to work hard for something does NOT mean she is not ready for it. Per your request, last week I stopped giving her Level 7 books and began working on writing with her. Again, that is listed in the weekly notebook. We were absolutely out of of Level 6 assessments when she needed to move up. I was not going to just not give her books and the reason she was getting so many is because her mother requested them.
Next, it is was not my job to supervise Nick’s correction work. We found last night that many of the things you stated were wrong in the books were not wrong, just worded differently. Many of the answer keys are not always correct either. People make errors and he is a young man; working for free. I also heard from the other tables that those volunteers were also not doing such a great job correcting. I hope you don’t speak to them the way Nick and I were.
Much of my folders were rearranged, papers and books, as well as test removed to give a false impression to the inspectors and therefore, I was still trying to get everything in its place from that situation.
Also, it is extremely difficult when I have anywhere from 6-15 children come for English at one time to give one on one and keep up with exactly what each child should focus on. It has always been my understanding that the Eye Level franchise expects no more than 1:4. You are aware this does not happen and if so, it is rare.
I will expect pay for this pay period on the 15th for the days I worked as well as the pro-rated grading. I do want to point out that when I began, I was told by you that I would be getting paid $10 per hour at 9 hours per week to grade and that only happened one month. If I had known my pay rate at been switched, I would have communicated that earlier.
Up until the last two months, I have very much loved working at Eye Level and I could have dealt with the “extra” students, the pay change, etc. but I will not be spoken to as if I have no education or emotions at all.
Again, please accept my resignation effective immediately.
Sincerely,
Cindy Kepley

I am writing because I am having trouble receiving my paycheck. I worked at the concord N.C. center and have attempted to receive my paycheck twice. Because I have not been able to receive an answer from my former employer. I was never given information regarding an employee handbook or a way to make sure my time was being submitted. Not sure if you could help me with this.
