Elephant Bar was founded in 1980 by David Nancarrow in Lubbock, Texas. The restaurant chain has an African safari theme with large, elephant statues inside and outside most locations, zebra print wallpaper and leopard print carpets. Most food dishes are pan-Asian fusion or typical American fare of BBQ ribs and hamburgers. There are currently 29 locations throughout the US, with most of the locations being in California.
Elephant Bar was forced to file for bankruptcy in June of 2014 and was purchased by CM7 Capital, whose parent company is Chalak Mitra Group, who also runs the Genghis Grill chain. The new owners closed 16 restaurant locations, including the Elephant Bar in Irvine and Santa Clarita, California, two very popular locations.
In July of 2015, Elephant Bar locations began offering a reward system for frequent diners in hopes of increasing sales.

Your restaurant and food are now the most depressing in the business! I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and when it comes to “global cuisine,” at your restaurant that term is a joke! You know what I’m talking about! You can’t compete! When you first opened it was a success. Now short lived, and the new people at the top in corporate are clueless! There is nothing global about your restaurants, it’s a saying you hope will catch on but people have caught on to you! There is no one in your restaurants, pity! You need to reinvent yourselves! So this is what I propose! You need to specialize in some plates, varieties from all around the world, some call it tapas, but each place in the U.S. Should have a specialized menu. Like sour dough bread in San Francisco! People would enjoy a variety of small plates that the table would enjoy! In the Bay Area, Spanish,
Indian, Chinese, Italian, French and American served family style would be a great success!

44 words DO NOT eat here. I wanted to treat my mom and daughter out to eat at the Las Vegas Green Valley Location restaurant number 231. The food was cold, the waitress named Tara took so long to take out order, my family placed a timer on the table because it took so long. 20 plus minutes to get our orders placed. The waitress had a nasty attitude and was very unprofessional almost like a drug addict trying to place our orders. We ate our food because we were starving and it took another 20 minutes to get my credit card back. I was looked at with an attitude when i asked for my credit card back. The menu is very scarce and the atmosphere is no better than applebees. I would have rather had in and out burger. Coming from chicago were food and service is top notch I would rate my experience at The Elephant Bar a -80.

A group of 4 of us went to the elephant bar on arden way in sacramento last week. It was a very disappointing evening for all of us. To begin with food was served but we had no silverware and waited a good five minutes while our food was getting cold until the silverware arrived, had to wait also for catsup, water glasses (which once we got were never refilled), had to get up and ask for dressing for a salad…but the most aggravating thing was i ordered the “napa valley cobb salad” – before ordering i asked our server about the roasted grapes that was listed as an item in the salad since the grapes sounded interesting – the server said she always takes them off so didn’t know how they were….still interested i ordered the salad to try the grapes. when the salad came there were grapes but definitely not roasted — just fresh sliced grapes. I brought this to the servers attention and she said she checked with her boss and he said they roast the grapes then put them in the refrigerator – these grapes were never roasted just fresh – the skins were not at all blemished as they would have been if ever roasted. when i order from a restaurant menu i expect the food to be prepared as stated on the menu. very disappointing evening for all of us.

I have previously been delighted with the totality of the restaurant services provided at the Elephant Bar locations. The diversity and preparation of the food has always exceeded my expectations, as has the designer venues as well as well trained staff, with outstanding professional and people skills. All of the above have intextricably intertwined caused me to become a frequent repeat customer. This past week I and my guests, a total of five persons dined at the Elephant Bar in San Francisco, overlooking the airport. A fabulous setting.
Upon presentation of the bill I offered to the waitress my credit card and two promotional dining cards which I had purchased. I was totally embarrassed and flustered when the waitress returned and said they were no longer valid. I did not question the waitress further, to avoid this unpleasant situation, and paid the bill. However, I am very frustrated and disappointed that Elephant Bar did not honor $50.00 in dining cards that I purchased and never used. Apparently the recent bankruptcy has created chaos with the software, as I have read other diners have experienced similar situations. Unacceptable. I would expect that those with administrative powers to correct same, will contact me and arrange for a credit of $50.00 at any location. I still have the dining cards, which have never been used.
I thank you in advance for the courtesy of a reply and assistance.

I have posted a message on your message board regarding my concerns in use of gift certificates.
I have written to your offices.
I have called numerous times without anyone answering on your listed phone number.
I have never had the courtesy of a response.
I most respectfully request your reply to my numerous inquiries as to why my gift dining cards were not honored. Were they dismissed by the court in the bankruptcy filing?

I am very unhappy with the experience I had this evening at the Elephant Bar in Henderson Nevada. My wife and I come to this location often. We bring our family. Tonight we came to have dinner. We had purchased $200.00 in gift cards with a $100.00 rewards amount that was to be out on our account 8028262999. We purchased the gift cards for one hundred each on July 27 2018. The waiter who had helped us with the purchase had problems getting the transaction with rewards to go but after a few attempts and getting a member of management involved, he assured us that he had completed the transaction and rewards account crediting successfully. Much to our surprise, this evening we went to pay for our bill using our rewards account bonus of $100.00 and nothing but $5.00 in rewards is on our account! We are very upset with the hat has transpired this evening and are writing to you to make this right.
This event has dampened our spirits and our feelings toward Elephant Bar.
When you work as hard as we do, a night out of enjoyment is a much anticipated event. We hope you can restore our faith in your establishment and look forward to it soon.

This is for your restaurant in Hayward two words NO BREAKS!!!!!!!!
this is from a current employees who wants to remain anonymous.
WE are working 8-10-12 hours with no breaks “because we’re busy” if there are no breaks scheduled and taken immediately I am going to a lawyer and calling California labor laws! Management continuously make us work off the clock and berates us when we question it. They have threatened to Fire us if we complain or say anything to upper management in corporate office.
So I suggest if you do not do something you have your entire back of house and front of house going to take this to a legal matter

I have a Major complaint The AC unit in the bar area at Elephant Bar In Citrus Heights needs to be fixed and those portable A/C unit you have are worthless 90 degrees inside – the bar area should be closed and people should be seated in the other part of the restaurant that has ac shame on you bad customer service – and i was asked to leave because i complained many people walked in and walked out I stayed for 1 food item and beer, should have never stayed. by Serious Cal OSHA issues – they told me a guy has been on the roof all day, when employee’s in the bar area stated it has been broken for over a year

Anne Baksh, client relations manager, would not honor our gift cards purchased at the Orlando location (then they closed the location) and there is NO other restaurant within a thousand miles. Shoddy customer service, terrible food, cited for health violations (reason they closed several locations). Would never solicit this place and would encourage all to look elsewhere due to POOR customer service!

Fraternization – you allow managers at your West County, MO locations to employ drug addicts while not issuing drug tests as well as allow the GM to sleep with employees and another manager to get server Brittany Habeck pregnant.

I visited your Downey, CA location. The gentleman who seated my husband and I passed up clean and dirty tables only to seat us at at a dirty table he had to clean before we sat down. The table was in the far back corner of the restaurant. We are of African American descent. Due to the harsh treatment our ancestors endured having to be seated in the back, we felt it was insensitive of him to seat us in the back considering the restaurant was not crowded. We received our food and had to ask for silverware. I ordered the Ribeye sliders and a salad. My meal was just ok, basic, there was nothing special about my meal. My husband ordered the Parmesan Chicken & Shrimp. The chicken did not taste like chicken. I ordered a Martini with extra olives. The waiter brought the Martini to me and stated he was just informed there were no olives. How can you serve a Classic Martini with no olives? To pay for a $10.00 XXXXtail with no garnish? RIdiculous!. The upholstery needs to be steamed cleaned and some of the tables need to be refurbished. Considering the great selection of restaurants in the area to dine at, one would think the 1 restaurant that has been a staple since the complex was built would have elevated their service. Elephant Bar Restaurant was a family favorite in the Woodard house hold. Not anymore.

I purchased a 60$ gift card at the Elephant Bar Restaurant in Peoria Arizona on May 16th, 2016. Shortly thereafter, the restaurant closed. As you can see below, I was informed in writing by the Elephant Bar’s Client Relations Manager that if I submitted the gift card number, purchase date and credit card number, I would receive a refund on my credit card account within a week.
I did so, and received this reply:
“Hi-
A request for a refund on the gift card has been sent in. The refund payment will go back to the card it was purchased on. It can take up to 7 business days. As soon as I hear anything back, I will notify you.

After waiting almost TWO WEEKS, I asked for a status report – and received this reply:
“Good morning-
Since we currently have a restaurant within driving distance (from Peoria) to the Chandler location, It was with many apologies that I must notify you that all requests for refund on the gift card have been denied.

To whom it may concern. My
Mother and I went for dinner on Tuesday June 21-2016. I feel like I should tell you a little about my mom she is 84 and loves your restaurant and has been going for many years. She had fallen and broke her knee cap and was down for about 6 weeks and when she felt better wanted to go to the elephant bar for nachos and a drink she loves there nachos. So I promised her when she felt better we would go all though she is still in a brace. So we went out to eat at your 6063 sunrise Blvd in citrus h Heights location. We went in it was not busy the timing was great we were seated and asked if we could have some room sense she could not bend her leg do to the brace well we were moved 3 times do to being seated in a very busy area for the kitchen. So we f finally got comfortable and was ready to order our drinks so our waitress was training another employee. So we ordered or drinks I ordered a pomegranate martini and my mom a Gibson well we waited for 30 plus mins then we ordered our food hoping our drinks would come long before well we were wrong our food came out still no drinks we my mom wanted to enjoy her drink first before eating, so explain that to the waitress and asked if our food could get taken back and asked again about our drinks. She said the bartender was really busy well finally the drinks came. And they tasted awful so we called for a manager. While waiting for a manager the waitress had said my drink probably tasted bad because it was the end of the bottle. Well come to find out the manager asked how I received a pomegranate martini because they had been out a pomegranate for over two weeks so come to find out the bartender use Grenadine well that was just unbelievable to me so we sent the drinks back and it all went down hill from there I went up front to talk again to the manager and could see the kitchen from the hostess counter. And there our food sits under the warmer lights it had been an hour now sense this Adventure had started. Well enough was enough and it was very unfortunate we left the restaurant no drinks no food. And ended up across the street at black Angus. Spending more money then we had anticipated and not having the food that we look forward to. The manager apologize but did not help with the situation left it up to the waitresses to resolve. My mom refuses to go back and that makes me sad because she really has enjoyed your food and atmosphere for many years with friends and family
Thank you
