Enel Green Power North America Corporate Office

Enel S.p.A. (Ente Nazionale per l’energia ELettrica) is an Italian electric utility company, the second-largest in Europe.

Enel was founded in 1962 as a state-owned enterprise whose goal was to take over the more than 1,200 privately-owned electric companies in Italy at the time.

The 1973 oil crisis had a huge effect on Italy’s electricity sector as it relied heavily on cheap oil imports. This caused Italy to diversify by opening its first nuclear power plant in the 1980’s.

Enel Green Power is the renewable energy arm of Enel, with headquarters in Rome.

Enel Green Power North America owns more than 60 hydroelectric plants, 21 wind farms, and 2 geothermal plants in the United States, as well as a biomass plant and wind farm in Canada. EGP North America started the first hybrid solar-geothermal plant in Nevada.

Enel Green Power has 3,000 employees and had $2.9 billion in revenue in 2010. Enel has 75,000 employees and had $104 billion in revenue in 2011.
