Triumph Group has its roots in the 1980 founding of  Alco Standard Corporation – a conglomerate that consolidated networks of companies in several industries. By the early 1990’s Alco had acquired aerospace companies and specialty manufacturers.

This division of Alco became Triumph Group in 1993 when a group of investors purchased the 13 aerospace companies from Alco in a leveraged buyout.

The company has completed over 40 acquisitions since then and grown the company from $60 million in revenue in 1996 to $2.9 billion in revenue in 2011.

Thor Industries Corporate Office

Thor Industries was founded in 1980 when Wade F. B. Thompson and Peter Busch Orthwein acquired Airstream, which had faced a downturn in business in the late 1970s. Thompson and Orthwein used the first two letters of each of their names to create the new company’s name: Thor.

Airstream returned to profitability after one year under Thor’s management.

The company expanded and grew through acquisition, notably General Coach, a manufacturer of motorhomes and travel trailers, in 1982 and Heartland Recreational Vehicles LLC in 2010.

Today Thor Industries continues to operate as a recreational vehicle builder. Through its subsidiaries manufactures and markets a range of motorhomes, travel trailers, and related parts under the brand’s Airstream, Keystone RV, Crossroads, Breckenridge, and Heartland RV, among others.
