Suja Juice Corporate Office

Suja Juice was founded in San Diego, California, in 2012 by four friends, Annie Lawless, Eric Ethan, James Brennen and Jeff Church. Lawless and Ethan were upset that they could not find  GMO free, organic juice, so they decided to start their own company.

The company created and blends GMO free, certified organic juices. The company uses a procedure called HIgh Pressure Processing, which allows more juice to be squeezed from the fruit or vegetables used. Only BPA free, PETE plastic bottles are used. There are several different varieties to choose from, including vegan, kosher, gluten free, and soy free.

In 2015, Coca Cola took a 15% minority share of the company for $90 million. The objective was to sell Suja Juice through Coca Cola’s extensive distribution network. At this time, the product is sold only in the US or online.

King Arthur Flour was founded in 1790 by Henry Wood in Boston, Massachusetts. After taking on partners, the name eventually changed to Sands, Taylor, and Wood Company. In 1896, the company introduced a new brand of premium flour, which they called King Arthur. After being introduced at the Boston Food Faire in late 1896, the product became a hit.

Today, the company has headquarters in Norwich, Vermont, and remains privately owned.  The company sells a wide range of flours, gluten-free flours, cookware, baking dishes, as well as a variety of cookbooks.

Tip Top Shoes was founded in 1940 by Ruth Ruth Pfiferling in New York, New York. The company operates several shoe stores, including the original location, that has stood the test of time. The Wasserman family purchased the store from Pfiferling in the early 1940’s and retain ownership of it still.

Tip Top Shoes has built a reputation of recognizing popular shoe styles before they are popular. They were the first store in the US to carry UGGS, Birkenstock, and Jacques Cohen espadrilles. In 1998, the company opened a store for children only, and recently opened another that caters strictly to work shoes and work boots.

The company president estimates that 60% of their business is word of mouth, but he is surprised by the pick up of internet sales.

In 1946, the company completely changed the automotive industry by introducing a radial ply tire. This quickly became the most popular selling tire throughout Europe, although it took much, much longer for the US to warm up to this style of tire design. Michelin is the world’s largest tire manufacturer, running slightly ahead of Bridgestone.

Acme Fresh Market Corporate Office

Acme Fresh Market was founded in 1891 by a local grocer, Frederick Wilhelm Albrecht, after buying out his brother’s share of a market. Originally called Albrecht’s, Fredrick changed the name to Acme, after visiting Philadelphia and seeing how many people came to a grocery store there called Acme. The company operates a chain of grocery stores in Ohio.

The company began to expand over the years but lately has changed its focus from non-food items to Fresh Market branding. Since the early 2000s, many stores have been overhauled or remodeled to make them look more modern. The company has more plans for expansion, as they own a large piece of land in Medina, Ohio. Current plans are to have 5 shopping centers, anchored by a huge 68,000-square-foot Acme Fresh Market location.

Acme Fresh Market also features Quick Clinics for simple medical needs, such as vaccinations, some locations have fueling stations, and most have pharmacies. There are currently 16 locations and one is a pharmacy-only store.

In August 2022, Acme Markets applied with Ohio state to allow them to place sports gaming kiosks inside certain locations.

Albrecht, Inc., Acme’s realtor, owns land in Medina, Ohio, and has plans for a five-building shopping center anchored by a 68,000-square-foot Acme store but a date for the groundbreaking hasn’t been set as of yet.
