Today, Scheels has 26 locations in 10 states and is operated by the great-great grandson of Fredrick Scheel and the Scheel family. The company employs more than 6,000 persons and is one of the largest sporting goods stores in the Northern US. The next location will open in Johnstown, Colorado, in late September of 2017.

Velvet Taco was founded in Houston, Texas, in 2011. The company operates a small chain of upper scale Mexican food restaurants in several states.

Velvet Taco stands out from similar restaurants in that their tacos aren’t the usual Tex-Mex style. Taco’s such as the Falafel, which has tahini crema, arugla, fresnos, tomatoes, pickled red onions, avocado, pea tendrils and a lettuce wrap is just one example of the unique type of tacos the company offers. Other tacos include chicken, pork, fish, or beef.  Orders can be placed online or placed via the mobile phone app. Gift cards are also available.

There are currently 4 locations, 3 in Texas and one in Chicago, Illinois. In January 2021, the company announed that it was leasing a building for a new location in Nashville, Tennessee. 

Also in January 2021, Velvet Taco announced that it was launcing its first Loyalty Program.
