Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen was founded in 1979 in Arlington, Texas, by Aubrey Good and current CEO Doug Rogers. Good and Rogers wanted to start a restaurant that used fresh ingredients and cooked menu items from scratch, similar to homemade food. The company is known for having twice as many chefs as other restaurants as cooking from scratch takes more time.
Today, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen has more than 160 locations in 23 states, with 60 of these locations being franchised operations. The company is owned by Oak Investment Partners and Catterton Partners. In April of 2017, the company became a subsidiary of Darden Restaurants, Inc. The Cheddar’s headquarters in Irving, Texas, was dismantled and some workers took positions at Darden headquarters in Orlando, Florida.
Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen has won several food awards, including Zagat’s 2012 #1 Full Service Restaurant Chain and Top Rated Food Award. The company also was rated #1 in Consumer Reports under the Best Pub or Grilled Food category in 2009.
In January 2023, the CEO of Darden’s stated that Cheddar’s was about to become the company’s second-largest and most popular restaurant chain.

Hello, we are here from Saudi Arabia on 3 months visit. We visited the Kissimmee location last night. We have never eaten anywhere like this but since it was near our hotel Margaritaville we decided to try something new. We are glad we did. We met Theresa our server, she is the best server we’ve had since being in the United States. She was very knowledgeable about your menu and help us choose foods we could eat with our religious dietary needs. She was kind, courteous and treated us with respect addressing our every need . A few times before we knew we needed that item. The food was great but she made our visit.
Thank you

On May 3, 2023, I went to cheddars Pasadena, Texas located 3365E. Sam Houston Pkwy. We were a table of seven . I only ordered the Key West and water, which I put on my credit card. Somehow there is an additional charge of $15.70 on my card. I did address the issue with “manager Steven ?” He said ” We are not going to absorb the cost” I did give my number to him and have yet to receive a better response.

Cheddars Conroe Texas I 45 North. My husband and I have had terrible service 3 times in a row!! Strike 3 and you’re out!! I finally called and reached out to a manager and all he had to say was sorry!! Sometimes sorry doesn’t cut it! Word of mouth travels fast and that is not good for business. We will not be back to Cheddars and I hope others take this advice as the complaints outweigh the good!!

Visited the franchise at 11711 E. 13th St. N. in Wichita, Kansas today around 1:30. A few cars in parking lot but lunch rush was well past. Waited over 10 minutes to be seated after having to track someone down to tell them we had been waiting. As we were taken to be seated we passed table after table of dirty dishes. Hostess immediately left after taking us to table before we could even sit down. The moment we touched the table and set down we noticed it was filthy. The little tablet on the table was smeared with grease and food particles were stuck to it. It had not been cleaned in days, possibly weeks. Went back to front of restaurant and informed hostess our table was filthy and it needed to be cleaned or we needed to be seated elsewhere. Went back to table waited about 5 minutes (mind you no one else in line to get in, etc). Finally we just left. If the front of the restaurant is that neglected and filthy I would hate to see what the kitchen looks like where you prepare the food. The party of 4 at the table across from where we were seated indicated they had waited a lengthy time to be seated and commented as well about all the dirty dishes and overall poor cleanliness of restaurant. We went a few restaurants down and had a lovely lunch. I don’t really want to hear the standard excuse these days of not being able to find help. The restaurant a couple doors down seems to have managed to secure good help. Needless to say I will not be eating at a Cheddar’s again. I have shared my experience with several people in town today and I doubt they will be visiting any time soon either.

For my husband’s birthday this year, I took him to the Bowling Green, KY Cheddar’s. Everything was great, including our server. But, both of us ordered steak and shrimp, with sides. The sides and shrimp were fine, but when we cut our steaks with our steak knives, it caused the plates and table to shake! We didn’t complain to our young server, since it wasn’t her fault. We told my brother the next day, which was last Monday, and he said to tell you online. So, that’s what we’re doing. Just the week before, we had gone to another restaurant, where the steaks were so tender, you can cut them with a FORK! Please teach your cooks how to tenderize their steaks! Thank you!

What a horrible experience!
My family and I went to a cheddars in Garland tx.
We been seated and ignored for 20 minutes, I finally can fin a manager and ask for help, he choose a next server to ” help us”
This guy was rude and disrespectful all the times, in a hurry and barely let us talk while we order, I stopped me the talk and suggested something else…I did get frustrated and told him the stop, we were frequent guests till that day.
He bring the appetizer like half size so we ask for more chips, he did roll his eyes and give us a look.
We are a family of 5…seated in a table for 4…
We get into rush for eat and leave…this guy tried to speak spanish when all of us speak english…I call that discrimination, nobody had to be treated in a different way just for a different look or culture
I correct him many times speaking back in english and he did take too funny
At the middle of the meal, he offer us bags and boxes to go
We accepted, at that time we just wanted the go
We ask for a drink refill and he never back
I saw same manager at one of the register and I was decided to share what’s go on on, this guy stepped front of me and stayed there while I wanted the talk privately
I go back to my table and my husband was fiding my little one with fries the he didn’t want to take home
And the rude came back and take his plate away…saying…com on! You don’t have too much left
What a horrible experience!
This guy ruin our entire day! His name is MARTIN P
And absolutely go find the manager and complain
He did have my name and address, he says I will have my money back, wich never happens, he give me his men word as I will fixed the problem. We still waiting.
The restaurant is at 5445 north president George Bush hwy in garland tx.
I went there on OCTOBER 19 2019
MY CHECK WAS $52.00

Jackson, Tenn restaurant is not managed right. It is dirty. Tables still had food sitting on them when we sat down. Not enough air on. It is hot in the South. Staff not good. Food cold. Food burned. Menus not cleaned off. There used to be a good manager. He was an older gentleman and came around and asked how your meal was, etc. I have read many unsatisfied customer complaints online also all over the country. This restaurant will have to close.

I have a gift card and checked the balance before I went to cheadars in Pigeon Forge for dinner. After dinner I was told the gift card was no longer honored.
The manager came to our table and said we are stuck and she could not do anything about it.
What do we do with the gift card? The manager said toss it..although I checked the balance and it was valid.
Glad we had a credit card with us.

I was at the Cheddars in Vienna, WV. I was at the bar and have been there multiple times. I have noticed the quality of the bartenders has drastically decreased over the last few months. Tyler is great. If the bar manager gets rid of him it’s the biggest mistake she’s ever made. Natalie is good, though sometimes her attitude is an issue. The two bartenders that shouldn’t get behind the bar ever again are two young ladies named Alex and Hannah. They seem like nice girls but they do not like to actually work. They like to talk to customers but not actually make drinks or serve tables. I’ve talked to some of the people who work there and there is a server who has years of experience behind the bar at other places. I’ve seen him tell the bartenders how to make drinks. Why is this person not behind the bar? There are other servers there that I know would do a good job as well. Some have asked to be trained on bar but were never given a chance. These two ladies I mentioned have driven away customers. When I would talk to people that are regulars, they say they do not come in if these two are behind the bar and call ahead to see who the bartender is. This just seems like poor management and probable favoritism. I’ve overheard workers talking and have heard them say the bar manager shows favoritism and seems to not like to put people behind the bar that actually have a backbone and don’t suck up to her. This is just observation, but I would look into this if I were you and want this bar to be successful again. It used to be really good.

There seems to be a lot of complaints about Cheddars and their management team all over the nation I have to agree I have called five or six times trying to place an order for pick up and have been hung up on overtime the corporate office does need to get involved and somehow change their management styles but I really don’t think they care because they make a lot of money

Went to Cheddars 2189, Brunswick, Ga. today 1/05/2019at 4:19:57, This was my first visit to this particular location since it’s opening last summer. I have visited the location in Savannah, Ga. several times and it always soared beyond my expectations, from the service to the food, but I cannot say the same for my visit today. This was the worst $12.08 I wasted by eating at this restaurant. I ordered the shrimp and chicken tenders combo and the majority of the meal was breading. Your corporate leaders need to get on undercover boss and find out what is really going on in this restaurant. I will never eat at this location again. To spend your hard earned monies on a meal and the entire meal is unfit to eat is not acceptable. I have heard of several customers who have eaten here say they will never come in again. Someone in corporate need to check it out.

To whom it may concern:
This concerns the Elizabethtown, Ky. Cheddars…
Took my wife out to eat there today, it was our anniversary. “HUGE MISTAKE”,
Lets start from the beginning:
The hostess that was seating us took us to our booth which was filthy, she had to wipe it down herself; into the seats. When I asked her to wipe the seat, she huffed with an attitude.
The waitress came to take our order, we ordered drinks; which was wrong and no straws
after I corrected her she brought out our appetizer, then ordered our dinner. Which took 35 minutes to receive, which was wrong. She asked if we wanted to speak to a manager that never showed up. My wife sent her food back to kitchen to be corrected that took another 25 minutes to receive. She took 2 -3 bites out of before us leaving.
If this is the standard for all Cheddars” GOOD LUCK”, you certainly will need it.
Very dissatisfied,
Tim Reynolds

I am really hoping that you will have a regional manager and a human resource manager go out and investigate your location at 5151 Noggleway Indianapolis in 46237. 317 807-0248. This location has sexual harassment consistently happening where the people do such awful things only to have to sign a paper they won’t do it again and can maintain their jobs. A manager Vicki has her girlfriend as a server and shows favortism to her and her friends ..mind you that’s against your company policy.Manager Vicki makes sexual comments to female employees and gropes yet still has a job. Male kitchen staff sexually harassing female servers . All of these things are happening in your location I am sure the EEOC would consider this a hostile work environment! As a human resource manager I am appalled that as such a huge corporation that this location continues to allow this behavior.

You better send someone to manage and clean up the Augusta location. Filthy, AWFUL food and our waiter tried but it was impossible for one waiter to service all of the tables, at least 12-15 tables.
This wax out first and last visit to a Cheddar’s.

Horrid !!! This place has the most rudest, demeaning, hateful manager I have encountered. We went there for my sons birthday. As we had a party of 8 I called and asked if they took reservations. I was told yes and I made them for 6:00. We get there and I was told they had given away our table and there would be a wait of 15-20 minutes!! The hostess showed where they have the table for reservations to another hostess and explained that she was to keep those open. All the while people were coming in and being seated. The manager came and said they were doing their best to get us seated but it would take awhile. Then she very pointedly commented that it was only 6:05!!! I went to her at said it is now 6:20 (since it seemed important she pointed out the time) and asked when we were going to be seated. A few minutes more. 10minutes later they took 2 small tables and jammed them together for us. A party of 6 with a highchair. There just was not enough room for all of us to sit. When I asked her for a manager she said “I am the manager. Do you have a problem?” Really???? Then she explained they do not take reservations!!!! After waiting for nearly 45 minutes she wants to throw that at me??? We finally had to accept 2 booths across from each other. Our family did not get to sit together. The food was horrid, It was cold and I even had a layer of cold grease on my potato skins. We didn’t complain because we realized it would do no good. So all total my family spent almost 100.00 on bad food, bad service, with an absolute nasty manager. I guess it made her feel good to give us free nachos and cheese. The only decent thing to eat the entire. time. Will never go back. To be treated as bad as we were really ruined it for my sons birthday celebration.

Good Afternoon,
I chose your restaurant on University Ave in Little Rock, Arkansas to treat myself for my birthday. I called the order in because I was at work, and didn’t need to be away from the office that long. I was told it would take 15 minutes to have my order ready. After waiting about 10 minutes, I arrived to pick up my meal. I then had to wait a total of 40 minutes, and eventually had to ask the hostess to please let them know that I needed to get back to work , and could they please hurry. After finally getting the meal, and driving back to work, I found that the lid on the Ranch dressing for my salad had not been properly sealed. The dressing had spilled out all over everything in the bag, including the top of the to go box with my salad in it. I couldn’t even open the box without first scraping the dressing off. Needless to say, I now didn’t have enough Ranch dressing for my salad. I then called the restaurant, and asked to speak to a manager, and I was put on hold for 32 minutes (of which I have a picture of so that they wouldn’t think I was exaggerating!). After waiting all that time, I was hung up on. I promptly called back, and was finally allowed to speak to a manager. She was very nice, and apologized but I was very disappointed that this was supposed to be a birthday treat, but instead became a nightmare. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment, and I look forward to receiving your response.
Sincerely,
Traci L.

I am a regular customer at the 620 university center blvd location in Charlotte NC. We were dining on Tuesday 1-23-18 at 7 pm with friends. After dinner we came out and found both our trucks back windows have been broken and our stuff stolen. Luckily I did not leave anything in there for them to take but it was a terrible experience due to having 2 small children and having to find a way to get them home because of all the glass inside my vehicle. My friend on the other hand and several things stolen but im more concerned with myself at this point. The guys that did the damage mangled my door so bad it has to be replaced because the way they messed up the window channel. I called the police and they came out and did a report and due to having 3 vehicles in a row broken into they sent out a crime lab to investigate. We talked to store manager to look at video surveillance but due to lack of cameras on the side they were not able to see anything. My truck is a 2017 Chevy silverado ltz and luckily I have insurance to have this fixed. But i feel that cheddar’s should reimburse my $500 deductible for compensatory damage from parking lot vandalism which could of been prevented with sufficient security cameras. Please contact me regarding this matter. Thank you, Justin Sellers

My 17 year old son began working for the restaurant located at 5445 George Bush Frwy in Garland Texas. His hiring manager has always been very kind to him and liked his work ethic. He is a Senior this year and is planning on going to the Marines and was very dedicated to his job. On Sunday, Dec 3. 2017, he was scheduled to work but had to take me to the Emergency Room and later pick up my prescriptions. He called his manager and was instructed to bring a note from the ER when he returns for his next scheduled shift. He returned today at 4:30 pm and a manager named John asked another manager named Judy “is this the little f-er that didn’t come to work”? She said yes and John began to tell my son that he has to get to work when he is scheduled. John also told him that a waitress who works with my son told Judy that my son told her to “f**k off”. My son denied it and was told to get his things and leave without any chance of speaking. Christian has complained of this young lady in the past as she was trying to date him and he didn’t engage in her conversations.
I am appalled that grown adults would speak to a young person in that manner (he has the recording because the conversation was so mean spirited). He felt threatened and was humiliated. Our family does not speak like this in our home and I am angry that my son was subjected to a hostile work environment.
There is another complaint that I found on your website regarding this location and this manager (John).
We are filing a formal EEOC claim for hostile work environment that the managers placed my minor son in, wrongful termination along with gender and race discrimination.

Saturday 11/11/2017 I was surprised by a group of friends for a dinner party at cheddars on Outerloop in Louisville, KY. We waited over 45 minutes for a table (my friends called days in advance for a table of 12). We were sat In the very back and were separated between two booths. We were told by the manager/host that we would be the only ones sitting in this area, but a few moments later the same host/manager seated a table of 7 in the same area. My salad came before my alcohol beverage and water, my waiter disappeared most of the time and no one in either booths received or was asked for a refill, we met at the restaurant at 6:00pm and did not leave until 8:45 most of the time was waiting for food. When the food came to the table, there was plates that were missing sides and chicken that was completely charred. We asked for the manager which was the beginning host and she even confirmed that the food was burnt , she spoke with the waiter and he comes to our table and just starts to rudely grab plates . Meanwhile the party of 7 that came after us was leaving after being served alcohol drinks and dinner while the last person at my table was still waiting for food. I was very embarrassed considered this was a surprise party for me, and 2 of my guest came and it was there first time coming to cheddars. On top of the food being disappointing, the host became rude and neglectful for most of the time there. There was a second manager that came over and apologized for the service and handed my guests a card. I just couldn’t believe how long it took to even get drinks and having a waiter not checking on us or even apologizing for the wait.

I worked at Cheddar’s of Beckley for 9 months. The way this restaurant operates is absolutely disgusting. 90 percent of the staff are related and/or have very close relationships with one another. So favoritism is an understatement. They treat everyone different depending on who you are. I started to make complaints about tipping out to bussers, etc. even when they weren’t on the clock, never getting breaks, managers treating certain staff with extreme disrespect, and the gross favoritism that was shown. I had made comments about contacting corporate and the labor board. I made a comment about a particular server being shown favoritism (this server stays the weekends with one of the managers) and it upset the server. She in turn went to Facebook and took a screenshot of a post I made, showed it to her “manager family” and I was terminated… Just like that! No questions… Nothing. These restaurants are able to treat people however they choose without any kind of standard guidelines. That’s why they have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for staff anymore. I plan to work as hard as I can to see that something is done about this. I will not just sweep this one under the rug. Please have someone contact me asap. There is much more to disclose that I would like to think someone cares about. Thank you.
