CenterPoint is billing me acct.#6401831595-8 located at 500 Van Buren #4 , Oxford,MS for my use after tenant moved, and then they tacked on what they think his remaining bill is $307.99. I learned his acct. number for the address above(6401433585-1)Mr Liam Murphy. His final bill was mailed to him on Jan 7,2019 with a credit remaining of $42.96 no payment due. CenterPoint is calling me and mailing me that they will turn service off if I don’t pay for a bill which is not due. Mr. Murphy was mailed his final with credit before I requested it be in my name to keep the pipes bursting. When I call I am told he owes and the next call he owes nothing. We had a three way call(myself,Tenant’s mother, and CenterPoint and were told he owed nothing. He lived there several years so there can not be a mix up. What do I do I currently have service at 4 other locations. I need to turn off three of these locations but seem not to beable on line. It stops before completing that this is a residential service in Mississippi. We have around 60 houses with natural gas. It alarms me that I am being asked to pay for an account for when I was not under contract. You are not requested to pay their rent because you are not under contract and I should not be requested to pay their gas. I am willing to assist all utility companies with forwarding address, family, phone numbers. Please tell what to do. Nancy Rogers, Mrs. William Rogers

I cannot believe this damn company. In the past I have gone 2 months without paying and make the 2 payment together…been doing this since 2008, my gas bills are about $32 a month. In December 2018 everything was paid up. Then in January my bill was $35 and it was to be paid in February, well on February 14th they turned my gas off for the $35. I bet you any amount of money that some employees have friends that are contractors paid to turn off services, CenterPoint employees don’t turn off services, contractors do. I had to shell out $99 (which included the $35 I owed) to get my service turned on and on top of that it was a Friday that I spoke to them but if I wanted service over the weekend I had to pay and extra $50. I told them they could “go get f^#%ed”…!!! Instead I got a hotel…

Trying to get my gas service has been a nightmare!! I have never dealt with such company so unethical like center point. I am a new customer with 4 children in the household. I did everything they ask for (permits) to assure same day service like they told me I was able to get with extra fee of $70 dlls which I agreed. When I called to make payment and confirm everything they told me that same day they had cancel same day service.. I ask to speak to a supervisor and the only thing she did was apologized. An apology does not help when you have 2,3,10 and 11 year old’s cold at night. She told me they would put me first on the list on the next day.. It is 9:20 a.m it is freezing in my house and no one has showed up yet. I called to ask what time they were coming and the lady that pick up said between 8-5 ..

Had CP as a gas provider from ’06 to ’08 and never had a bad experience. There were times when my finances were squeezed and CP always worked with me to ensure we both got what we wanted; I kept services, they received compensation for services rendered.
Fast forward to 2014 when I lease a place that supposedly had all utilities furnished (allowable limits with me paying overages). Even though gas wasn’t listed I assumed it was on as there was a small heater connected and fully operational. Shortly thereafter a cold snap hits and I fire up the heater. Within the week CP shuts off the gas and red tags it. No problem, call the management company and scold them for not paying the bill. Oops, they inform me that gas wasn’t furnished. Still no problem. Call CP and get services started again!
I mentioned before that I had a good relationship with CP. They didn’t disappoint this time either. Called them up, explained the situation, and asked for connection under my name. A very polite lady informed me that there was a small balance left from when I had CP before ($60 or so) that would need to be addressed and as a result I would need to place a deposit to initiate service at this new address. No problem at all as it was my fault I unknowingly left a balance. I explained to her about being a new tenant and even gave her an updated address for the previous tenant (literally on the same block still) and she assured me that CP would only bill me for my estimated usage.
Fast forward to the end of the first monthly statement of $330 for the one little heater in the living room. To note here: it was literally the only operational gas valve in the whole home as there had been extensive foundational work in the past and the lines were professionally capped from the rest of the home at that point and was subsequently noted by service techs.
My inquiry call to CP on the very large bill did nothing except let me know the 10 year honeymoon was over. I was told that in order to continue receiving services I would need to pay the full balance billed to the address as CP was not adequately satisfied that I wasn’t responsible for the whole bill (went through providing proof of previous address and dates, along with new lease agreement for naught). Not only was I being stuck with the balance from a previous tenant, CP was completely unwilling to work with me to keep the service going. Several calls over the subsequent weeks got me nowhere. With the battle lost I resigned to getting services cut and running an electric heater in the room (very expensive). I informed CP that even though I didn’t owe the previous balance, I would assume the debt and pay it in full in order to keep it off my near spotless credit report.
Fast forward a year. I finally get the excess funds and pay the previous balance. As fate would have it, a report showed up on my credit from Centerpoint Energy as charged off/ paid in full/ paid profit and loss. My credit took an 82 point dive with a recent “default” four days before I was to finalize a loan on a parcel of land. Lost the loan, lost the land, credit shot to hell.
I’ve been contacting CP religiously via phone, email, and private messaging on social media to help in getting this report removed. They are flatly shutting me down on the phone and other forms of contact have resulted in nil.
Unfortunately they are sending the message loud and clear that paying a previous balance in full will hammer your credit for 7.5 years, refuse to pay for a while and they will settle for pennies on the dollar and keep it off your credit report. Not the same Centerpoint I dealt with 10 years ago that actually dealt with customers, not just bottom line numbers.

I would like to start by saying that I am a mother with 3 kids who works extremely hard every day at my job and goes above and beyond for anyone who needs my assistance. Today I found myself in a rut when our gas was shut off for non payment. That was no ones fault but my own and I since then have paid everything needed to have services turned back on. I let this company know that I would not be home until after 4 and they said they would try to have someone out after so that I would be home. Well at 2:30 someone came to my house and now I am without gas for a weekend. I spoke with a supervisor named Patrick who was no help in this time of need. I feel like as a company you should strive to help everyone regardless of the extra work it might take others. I do this in my very job every day. He was rude from the start so yes I did get extremely frustrated and loud with him which is against my own nature. I am hoping this doesn’t happen to other people in the future and that this company will learn to loosen some of their protocols as far as turning back on someone’s gas.
