Bush’s Chicken was founded in Waco, Texas, in 1996 by Keith and Charlene Bush. The restaurant chain is best known for it’s southern-styled fried chicken and sides that include fried okra, fries, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, yeast rolls, and macaroni and cheese. Bush’s Chicken also offers sweet tea and unsweetened ice tea sold by the gallon jug.
The company has approximately 90 locations in 4 states, with a mix of both franchises and corporate-owned stores. Many locations in Texas offer old-fashioned car hop service, which is popular with locals.
In late 2012, the chain was hit with a lawsuit in which a woman claimed her husband died from salmonella poisoning after eating at Bush’s Chicken. Based on medical evidence at the trial, the jury concluded that Bush’s Chicken was not responsible for the man’s death.
In June of 2018, multiple locations suddenly closed their doors with no explanation. The restaurant chain had been briefly sold, but second generation Bush family members repurchased the restaurant chain.
In October 2020, the company introduced a new sandwich, the Bushbaby Chicken Sandwich.
Headquarters for Bush’s Chicken remain in Waco, Texas.

Getting 4 meals waited longer than 30 mins wasn’t happy but I own a restaurant so employees are hard to find right now. I do understand that. Never waited so long usually pretty fast pls it is Saturday. After waiting 30 plus minutes this is what I received I ordered 4 3 piece tenders and okra but they were out of the only thing I really wanted what I received was 4 2 piece tenders, rolls I guess that’s what there calling them fries and forgot my 4 drinks so again I waited again they never brought them out I tried to get the young man running from car to car to please get my drinks. His response was ya ya I heard you the first time and then he was gone. I am absolutely a palled at the service and the food. 4 meals everything was cold not cool cold the rolls where just something else you really can’t call them rolls and fries where cold and completely inedible. So when they came back the first time about the drinks they said sorry no problem Can I see a receipt of course he went back in never saw him or my receipt again. If anyone is u sure who I am I’m the one in the San Antonio Fire chiefs pick up that said San Antonio fire department, so the food was trashed but two pieces of chicken we gave to the cats behind our station I’m enclosing pics. I don’t want my money back or replacement of the food but am out the money because the receipt needed to be turned in. Just very disappointed. Don’t think any paramedic or firemen will be back with over 60 stations and 1000 plus medics. It’s a loss. Our chief tools pics and is putting it in the news letter. It was this bad. I hope someone really talks to the staff located in Leon Valley Texas on Bandera road.

I am beyond words right now on how my experience went at bushes chicken in new braunfels tx. It was definitely by far the most disrespectful and rude experience i have ever had in a food industry. I was in the drive thru waiting about 10 minutes which wasnt long, i am a patient person and i understand what it can be like in the food industry but five minutes after waiting another car pulls around to the drive thru, we wait a few minutes more with no greet . Then a young boy comes out and goes straight to the car that came after us so we patiently waited because we figured maybe he didnt see us. So after he took their order we noticed he was about to go inside. So we waved him down and explained that we had been waiting a while and before we could tell him that we were there first, he snapped back and said “well i cant get to everybody” then we had said we had been here way before that car , and he snapped again with so much attitude and said “ well im the only server so …” and then asked what we wanted. We told him our order and he went inside. He purposefully came out and paid the other people out and went back in to only come right back out with their food so they could go and he hadnt even paid us out at all . He purposefully made us wait . I was beginning to feel very frustrated and so when he cane out with our food 2 minutes later my wife thanked him and all he said to her was “mmhmm” so rude.. and when he gave my wife the bag with my order in it , the bag felt like it only had a box in it and no food , it was so light. So i opened my box to check my food and i was disgusted by the look of quality of my food and the quantity . I took a picture of it that i will be mailing out. So i was beyond frustrated, my patience was done with . I felt targeted as a guest who never did a single thing to anyone there. So we parked the car and i went inside and i looked right at the manager and asked who made my food, even though i knew the boy was the one. Then i looked right at the boy and said “ you made my food didnt you?” And he said in the most cocky voice “ i sure did” i have never felt so disrespected by an employee anywhere. I lost it . I went off but to the manager and as im talking to the manager the boy is standing right next to her back talking me and i told him to be quiet because i was talking to the manager and he kept on with his response and interrupting me talking to the manager . And he just kept sayin “ i have the right to say what i want to say” it was ridiculous. And the manager not once told him to back off from talking to me like that. I am so upset about this experience, i will never go back to that place ever again. The general manager hasnt even called whos name is stormy and the boy that caused all this was name layne. This happened last night ( 03/15/2021 ) at around 9pm . I will be mailing all of this to corporate office along with the picture of my food . I expect a response.

Hello,
My name is Darlene Cox, my dad and I went to Bush’s Chicken on Friday October, 16th, 2020 around 5:10 pm.in Temple Texas on Adams.
We ordered 3 Chicken tender dinners 2 with fried okra and one with green beans.
My dad was eating the fried okra and it was too chewy…. he took it out of his mouth….. it was a fried BANDAID!!
This is unacceptable!!!
I feel a full inspection needs to be done!!!
My dad is a delicate diabetic.
We will NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN.
Sincerely,
Darlene Cox

Hello, it’s 9/29/19 about 6:45pm and my husband and I just visited a Bush’s Chicken for the first time in Glendale AZ. When we first walked in, we were not greeted. There were about 10 people total in the restaurant. It took us a few minutes to look at the menu since it was out first time.
Once we finally decided and ordered the guy that took our order was not very friendly and you could barely hear what he was saying. We ordered, paid and waited about 7 minutes for our food. As we waited, We walked around looking for a table. We were actually looking for a clean table. My husband took some paper towels and wiped off the table and chairs to sit at. They called us up for our food and again you could barely hear the guy. The appearance of the food looks good. The chicken was hot and in large pieces which was nice. The coleslaw was cold and good. The rolls did not seem to be completely cooked. My husband’s mashed potatoes were cold and we did order a side of mac & cheese which was very bland and warm. As we finished our food, people were coming in and complaining about sitting in the drive-through for at least 20 minutes before being helped. The employee that helped them at the counter didn’t seemed to be the least bit apologetic. Only said we’ve been really busy what can I get you. By the time we were done tables were still not cleaned off and the restaurant was kind of a wreck. I did take a couple of pictures of the restaurant, I was not impressed with the cleanliness. My husband did go into the bathroom and said it was disgusting. As we walked out to our vehicle we noticed 6 vehicles in the drive-through. You could hear the customer sitting in their vehicles complaining about the wait. We watched two vehicles leave without ordering.
My overall experience was not a good one. I don’t know that my husband and I will be back.
Thank you for your time to listen to my review.

Odessa Tx – W Co Rd. Ordered an 8 piece liver dinner with okra and diet coke. Waited.. Brought it out..12 piece Not 8. No gravy.. Sweet Tea Not diet coke. Half of livers were so hard and dried out, could not even eat them. Several others nearly looked raw. A waste of money and time.
